This is really big and cool for a one week game it feels pretty complete. The story was pretty cool, I really liked the visuals and there was some subtle spooks.

The main downsides I have are gameplay balance and juice, it feels like the game gives very little feedback for getting hit and the sounds seem mostly like jsfxr sounds. I think this needs some revisions in the gameplay department to improve it, with more chunky sounds and maybe smarter enemy AI cause I barely got hit.

Holy smokes, thanks for the great review and whole video playthrough?! Your feedback is very helpful and I appreciate it! The balancing was really hard, I tweaked health values and enemy spawns a lot in addition to changing the dungeon design because I did not want the gameplay or the terminal stuff to be too hard and this is really challenging for one dude without a few testers. I think maybe offering two difficulties - one for the story and one for more skilled fps gamers could help this, alas I did not have the time to include something like that! The audio overall is a big one I want to improve and I was gonna try and do some voice lines myself but it would have taken me way too long. Thanks again for playing, the review and the video it means a lot to me!!!

Wow this is insanely good! Having the different activities, (even a FISHING minigame wtf?!) even thought they were all quite simple, layered and polished as they are make this feel like a very complete game.

I LOOVE every aspect of this game!!! UI was amazing, sound design was immaculate, visual style were omg the best, and those residents are adorable

So first of all, its a good game, fun mechanic and boss battles, I really enjoy the take-a-breath side map. The sprites are not too many but you really utilize them well.
However, there are still so many things to improve. Like the map design, it feels the same every level. The overloaded info, which people have said in the comments. The UI navigation thing, it confused me very much lol.
Overall, I gotta say its insane that you pull off a game like this in just 5 days, it has so many features like the beach map, the comuter UI, the "enter command to recover tape", and all basic dungeon and guns mechanic. Everything feels so polished too. All my respect to you
Btw, love the robot with the animated face, hes so cute

Developer

thanks for playing, the UI is for sure something I want to improve in the next game or update. and especially map design.

I'm not a fan of the genre, but I actually liked it! The game has a cool art design and such funny characters (: It's also a very exciting vacation spot :) I didn't really like that from the very beginning the game gives a lot of text and instructions on how to act, but then slowly the game unfolds. Thanks for your game! Good luck!

Others have said it already but, this felt really polished. Well done! I really enjoyed the art and sound design in particular. The only issue was that I didn't seem to be able to talk to any of the residents or at least they didn't have anything to say when I tried to interact with them.

Developer (1 edit)

sorry, it's just a small visual "bug" if you step back after talking to them you should be able to see what they say a little better, I have to do some UI improvements in the next update. thanks for playing!

wow, that felt really complete! Reminded me a lot of Daniel Mullins Games. Very good job!

Yes, I love inscryption. your review means a lot to me

Great work! This feels like a fully fledged roguelike demo. You packed a lot into the game, which kept me engaged the whole time. Visual style looks really good!

The controls take some getting used to, and the amount of information on screen can feel a bit overwhelming at times, but I had a lot of fun with it, and it also challenged me a little. Really nice game!

Nice game and congrats creating a game like this in a week!

i got information overload playing a little, but overall it was a fun time i think! would need more onboarding for the different game mechanics and player experiencing this for the first time perhaps? nice work

Developer

Thank you, I need to simplify the tutorial and I want to introduce features more throughout the story(which I want to improve) - I had to cut some features because it would have been more than what's in there. thank you for the feedback :)

This is arguably the most ambitious game I've played from this jam. There's just so many layers to it. I can't believe how much content and how many unique ideas you packed into this game in just 7 days.

I agree with the other comments - I think it's a great concept but currently a little confusing. With some more polish and a more fleshed out tutorial section, this could be a really unique boomer shooter. Great entry!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much, I agree fully with what you said. I didn't want to cut content so tried hard to guide the player to objectives and show them what is available to them. I will consider a more guided tutorial - thank you :)

I think with a little bit more onboarding and intro this game could really go somewhere. I really enjoyed it once I figured the systems out. Good Job

This is very meaningful to hear for me, I appreciate your words!

i really like the art style and overall feel of the game! but there is too much information its very hard to understand excluding that its a fantastic game

Developer

Thank you very much, I will simplify the information for the next update.

I think is super catchy and interesting but sometimes there is to much info on the screen that is really hard to get what you have to do. And sfx for when you hit something is weird. But super interesting concept and hope you keep working on it.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I agree with information overload, I tried to keep the command line things not too challenging and then I tried to add the arrow to keep pointing you at your next task. The sounds overall are something I really want to improve - especially for the next update you motivated me to do. Thanks for playing :)

I love the art style, Cant believe this was done in one week. Love the mechanics.

Very cool ideas, I like the idea of inserting levels in this way and the whole command line concept! While it didn't feel very scary it was definitely fun!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I wanted to make the pop ups a bit scarier but never wanted the scares to be frightening and ended up leaning more into the comedy horror and just tried to make the game feel tense. Thank you for playing and the feedback!

Of course, I'm not a big fan of jumpscare's so I'm glad there weren't any. Keep it up!

wow! very polished game with a lot of interesting features and cool aesthetic! well done!

I'm very impressed that you made this solo! So many elements are clearly designed thoughtfully across visuals, audio, narrative, and game design. I found the text difficult to read because of how quickly it changed and how high above the NPCs heads it was relative to where I was standing when I interacted with them. I really wanted to learn more about the story but I did run out of steam with the doom-like mini game because I'm not great at it. It seems like the game was designed with too much detail to retain at once. It was too much to keep track of, even with all the reminder text. I suspect that has something to do with the narrative arc, which would be neat. Whatever the story was, I was already feeling creeped out by it! If it wasn't your intent to overwhelm the player, I might suggest spending some cycles on onboarding. You have a very high volume of information for the player to retain in a short period of time. As an engineer, the typing minigame was clearly my favorite. Overall, I gave you 4s & 5s across the board. Job really well done!

Developer

this is a really kind and thoughtful review. I really appreciate it and thank you for playing. There are a lot of UI and UX improvements I would plan to change if I do make an update to this. I wanted to get working mechanics in the game and still have the game be a full package so there was a lot of improving of the smaller pieces and moving parts I do want to improve more, so your feedback is really helpful. I really appreciate it, thanks again for trying and the review.
