Yeahh lol, it's been wild
I've only had to cut two major corners, and if I don't have time to fix those when the time is almost up, that just proves that it was necessary.
First corner I cut was accidentally making the train sprite too big. That resulted in me just sizing it down instead of redrawing it smaller and doing all the animations from scratch, which led to a wonky look of that specific sprite
Second is that I just don't really have time to polish my particle effects yet, but it's a pixel art game, so square particles look enough at home
I got unlucky ;-;
Got half of what I needed to do today done and then got stuck for hours fixing a game breaking bug that seems to have been caused by Godot sometimes renaming things when nodes are reparented
But hey, I got a shop mechanic working, added new items, added a new functional type of item class, added train stations that the train automatically stops at every x amount of units, and now I just gotta give the train stations their functional purpose, which includes NPCs, which means I can finally start adding in the theme and half of the main gameplay, at day 4...
What if you make a game where you walk in a crowd of NPCs and a few of them pull up a pistol or shiv if you get too close?
Aesthetic could be very noir and shadowy with the player being a pure white or red color, making them stand out and easier to locate
Would probably work well to have a few levels all with a new crowd layout, so it might be a remembering game or similar
Not using the idea so you can have it if you want
I'm personally really stoked! I might even finish the majority of the gameplay loop today! Assuming I'm not unlucky atleast
No, I didn't start working on art or sound. And yes, the gameplay loop has taken me 3 days so far lol
Will likely have to add the element for the theme either tonight or tomorrow

End of day 2 progress
Feels like I'm going at a snail's pace when I'm in the zone, but then I see the end of day progress logs and get my mind blown
Just ignore the visual artifacts and the train cabin that was obviously scaled down in a hurry. We're all on a deadline, so it's to be expected lol
The shop UI probably won't be staying for any longer than it takes me to make a better alternative tbh
The thing I do is to just rid myself completely of any competitive spirit
I acknowledge that the best thing about game jams is what you learn along the way, and that way I'm not even all that bummed if I don't finish on time, and even if I am, I'm not too stressed about the deadline. Hope this helps!
