Maybe, instead of every small developer trying to grow their own isolated community, we should create one shared Discord server where indie developers can all showcase and promote their games.

Players could browse different games, discover new projects, and simply choose the ones they enjoy the most. Rather than competing for attention, we'd be helping each other reach a wider audience.

I've always wondered why so many Discord servers don't allow members to promote their own games or projects.

Personally, I don't mind it. If someone has built something they're proud of, I'd be happy for them to share it with the community. I don't believe that allowing other games to be promoted necessarily hurts my own game—in fact, it could help create a more supportive and collaborative community.

On the other hand, I understand that some server owners may want to keep their communities focused on a single game or avoid spam.

So I'm curious... what do you think?

Another thing I'm really curious about is why so many Discord server owners don't allow people to promote other games. Personally, in my server I'd let anyone share their game or idea.

I don't really believe that letting people promote other games would hurt my own game. In fact, it could help build a stronger community where everyone supports each other.

Do you think there's an actual business reason for banning promotions, or is it just human nature to want to keep everything exclusive for ourselves?

I think players who discover a game naturally tend to stick around much longer than players who are pushed to play through ads or promotions.

I built my game and, without doing any advertising, it attracted thousands of players. Later, I had to shut it down due to technical issues. I've now reopened it, but it seems all of my previous players are gone.

I'm curious whether new players will eventually discover and start playing again. More generally, I'd like to understand what causes players to come to a game, what makes them stay, and why they leave. How do games naturally gain and lose players over time, especially when there hasn't been any advertising?

Great points! I completely agree that smooth gameplay flow and good audio/visual feedback make a massive difference.

That "one more game" feeling usually comes down to fast matchmaking and fair progression. I’m currently tweaking those exact mechanics in Pocket Brawl.fun to see if short, fast-paced matches help keep retention up without feeling grindy.

Out of curiosity, do you guys prefer daily quests or season-long goals to keep you coming back?

I've been thinking a lot about what makes players stay with a multiplayer game for weeks instead of uninstalling it after a few matches.

For me, the biggest things are:

• Fast matchmaking.
• Unlocking new characters over time.
• Fair progression without feeling forced to spend money.
• Seasonal rewards that give you a reason to come back.
• A fun community where players can share ideas and report bugs.
