This is such an wonderful cozy game, and the layout and font are so lovely and add to vibes <3

I had so much fun playing this solo that I kept going even after the four rounds ended! I played until I started repeating too many prompts, and it got silly for me with my epidemic of villagers getting lost and scared stargazing LOL

I really, really enjoyed the character, town, and home creation. That really got me into my witchy character and her magic-touched werewolfy husband, and it made their home almost feel like a character too. It had a history, it had special magical quirks. I also had fun coming up with special facts about the village. It gave the setting some very nice personality.

Growing and cooking felt so cozy, and gaining upgrades felt special. I really liked that it created a relationship with the villagers I helped. The affects of each ingredient let me get really creative and wholesome in how I helped people.

My first villager had a duel at dawn against a fencing master who had insulted his sister, and because my ingredients weren't exactly the kind to help someone win at fencing, I helped instead facilitate peace and had them both sit down and eat the soup (I convinced the fencing master that it was a very serious tradition for two duelists to share soup together before a duel at dawn--Not doing so would have angered the fey or spirits). My villager and the fencing master ended up laughing and admitting they were both wrong--the fencing master shouldn't have insulted the villager's sister, and the villager shouldn't have challenged him to a duel in public. In the end the fencing master gave the villager a swordsmanship lesson. And the crowd that had gathered for the duel was very confused LOL

I had other really good moments too, but I don't want to inundate you with all of them xD

Well done! And I can't wait to see how you expand it! Thanks for submitting and sharing!

Thank you!! I'm so excited your excited to play it!!!

Ahaha!! Yess xD I remember moments late into both nights where I felt fairly certain I might be repeating myself, but I knew I'd need fresh eyes to catch anything. I'm hoping to do some polishing after the game jam ends! I've seen soo many typos LOL I appreciate your patience with it! <3 If you do get around to playing, I'd love to hear how your journey goes!

(1 edit)

Thank you so much for your kind words!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply even if you're not familiar with journaling games. Your kind words mean more than you know.

Thank you so much! Yeah LOL I definitely did not sleep enough, and I'm still kind of recovering xD  It felt like a creative mania the way the ideas came together. But I was sooo excited to have finished it, and I even feel a little proud. Usually I don't feel that because of the mind-goblins, but I never thought I'd make anything like this. It's much larger than Hiss into the Abyss! Thanks for running the game jam and facilitating my ability to make something like this! <3

This was such a sweet and lovely little game.  It reminded me so much of my grandma in the best way (memories of trying to get her Filipino recipes, and her being either super secretive and evasive or just purely mysterious about them lol). I really loved the experience playing where, as I revealed more ingredients for my recipe, I got more of a sense who my Grandma was in the game. I ended up with this really legit amazing sounding stew. A celestially radiant salmon dish. Some witchy sort of pad thai with some Persian flare. And then what I think is a magical ward for my home. :D

I really loved how cozy things felt. After a long and difficult day, this felt so nice to just sit down with for about a half-hour and explore. Just relax and see which of Grandma's recipes I might uncover <3 Great job on the ingredient list and the descriptions too! I was nervous I might not be able to make good recipes, but I never had that problem lol
Thanks for submitting this!

I loved the idea of running an inn, so I was excited to play! I have to say he style and presentation are awesome. The font is sooo good. And wow! What a challenge, especially those first few weeks of gameplay. I got soft-locked with finances my first two attempts to start, but my third try I can't believe how lucky I was to get Judgement and then to roll a freaking 6! OMG game-changer!
I also wanted to say I loved the thoughtfulness you put into your mechanics and all the prompts! Thanks for submitting! <3

I love this so much, Kelly! LOL This is my first playthrough of a Hijinx and Hints game. I'm familiar with them, but I've just never gotten around to playing one. This was wonderful and hilarious. You made such great choices for the complications and hijinx prompts. I loved the concept too. It felt so original and unique to be basically conducting a seance to recreate recipes for loved ones. Everything just felt like it worked together so well lol

I want to try to describe the ridiculousness and chaos of my client's aunt. I hope that's ok to share  xD  It went sideways so fast the first turn ROFL

First Auntie Beatrice didn't like my tone, and then she was certain I was incompetent and just immediately went for possession because she was going to make the recipe herself. It devolved into petty fighting and squabbling. We messed the kitchen all up, and I couldn't find anything. And the client was just standing there watching it all not sure if this was normal. (I was literally laughing out loud at my prompts.)

But it somehow went downhill from there. I got one clue despite the niece continuously interrupting me to talk to her aunt about the aunt's now-geriatric show dogs she inherited from her. Then Aunt Beatrice refused to communicate with me unless Nutmeg was present--Nutmeg being one of her precious but now extremely elderly shih tzus.

An attempted walk-in client showed up at my door just as I was trying to summon Nutmeg.

Auntie Beatrice was getting irritated and threatened to leave if I didn't get her Nutmeg, so I roped this stranger into pretending to be the dog while my client rushed off to get Nutmeg and the rest of the 'Spice Girls' from the groomer down the street. My client really wanted this recipe.

Suddenly there were dogs everywhere. Nutmeg kept going after my shoes and getting in the way. I needed a snack break LOL

I can't believe I was ultimately successful, and it all came together.  I had a lot of fun with it!

I'm so glad you like it! That means so much you wanted to comment :D

To answer your question, only one Joker is meant to be in use in the game--The one that represents Home. The other Joker was meant to be returned to its box or home to rest (It should be listed in the Prepare the Deck page).

I ran out of time, but I still intend to add a final page at the end to tell players that when you're done, you should gather your card and return them to their box or home to rest--along with your sleeping Joker.  :)  Zzz Zzz Zzz

I love the concept. I think the idea of fighting monsters with kitchen utensils to cook bundt cakes is fantastic. I also noticed the connection to Monster Hunter right away lol I appreciate that.  I could definitely see you building this out into something bigger. You fit a lot of mechanics into a small space--which can be really tough to do. I think you did a nice job with that! I had some a couple questions come up as I played, but I decided to just do what felt like I was keeping in the spirit of the game.

I'm used to Dark Souls difficulty lol But to make sure I could play through and give feedback, I just modified the dice mechanics to help me along. It took several attempts (I kept botching things at the cooking phase), but I did eventually make a Gugelhupf Gargoyle Bundt Cake!

I did a lot of grinding for that cake and went through a lot of Wyvern Whisks. I like to imagine it was the most delicious bundt cake ever! xD

Like I said above, I could really see you building this out into a bigger game, having tables for loot, weapons, and other stuff.  It could totally work solo or multiplayer if you ever expanded it :D   I'd personally love to see more with the monsters and also with the cooking part. Those parts made the game feel really unique.

The art is great, and the font was very complementary. Very cool work. Thanks for sharing it <3

Thank you so much for reading it! I love your game, "This Game Takes Place at My Family Home on Thanksgiving" lol I actually still have it up so I can come back to it. It's awesome!
