How does the game fit the theme?
You can invite anyone to your party. But just because you can doesn't mean you should. Each character has a motive you need to figure out if you don't want them to stab you in the back!

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
All assets were taken from https://sagak-art-pururu.itch.io and https://clockworkraven.itch.io/raven-fantasy-icons (icons) with minor redraws or tweaks. SFX and music from pixabay

2D physics are so fun. Such a neat mechanic although if there are many things it can get super cluttered haha. I found a bug where if I spam click recruit I can recruit a looooot of peeps HAHA

Just some things I found unintuitive:

  • pressing next round has no effect. Round 1 is presumably a no-op since no one has enough speed to play in round 1? But it should just not exist or skip to the first playable round.
  • It's not super clear what you're supposed to drag where even with the highlighting. I had one of my party members leave and I thought I needed to drag coins for them but when I did, the coins got stuck or disappeared. When I dragged them into the ally inventory, it disappeared and made a cha-ching sound so I thought I had paid them. But then I opened the merchant and then the coins were revealed to be stuck floating in the inventory space.
  • Who can equip what and what requirements? This could be conveyed better

Overall the game loop seems fun and I can see with more chaos in the bottom area but with ways to organize it (esp giving the coins one by one could be avoided), and then more juice, it could be really addicting!

Definitely one of the more enjoyable games I have played. There is definitely something interesting about the combat and looting system. I really cant think of a game that is even remotely similar to the mechanism you developed. Well done!

Thanks alot!

I think this could be developed into something very fun

I finally saved up for a graphics tablet and can get back to drawing! I made a game I enjoy playing and I think I'll rework it with my own drawn assets and more refined gameplay.

Really good game. I think it has potential for a full game.

My only complain is that the combat music didn't feel very "combat like"

If you have a suggestion, seen how many the gold coins you get and how slow is to pay in the shop I think the coins could combine into more valuable coins, like the fruits in the Suika Game.

Thank you so much for the feedback. The music was very last second and some signals didn't go off correctly (I also forgot to link the audio for triple slash skill xD)

Great fix for the coins! I'm hoping to remake this after the jam with my own assets and refined gameplay. Check in sometime later :D

Nice game, great idea with recruiting, cool twist with the merchant :D

Had some troubles dragging items to hero's inventory, but overall it's fun game!

Developer

Thanks a lot! There are some bugs I couldn't squach in time :(( I'll clean it up and add some stuff after the jam

Loved the visual and music combo, made the vibe really nice!

The party members gave me trust issues xD

Pretty cool game, I was a bit confused the first time I lost but nothing happened and I just had to keep clicking next round until the end.

Developer

It's a bug I didn't catch :(( restarting works fine

letting me click an enemy and read their inventory before i decide anything is the smart bit, i recruited a goblin on floor 3 purely because i could see what he was carrying. recruit or leave as the whole decision is tight. wouldnt mind a line of flavour on why each one wants to join, that would make the betrayal land harder

Developer

I wanted the recruit / motive to be part of the roguelike cycle. You'd recruit, read the dialogue to get a hint at the recruit condition and then when betrayed again for why they betrayed. I like nudging the player instead of giving the answer right away.

I really like the idea of recruiting people into your party while knowing that everyone has their own motives. It made me suspicious of literally everyone I picked up lol. The dungeon crawling and collecting loot are simple but really fun, and having to think about whether your own teammates might betray you fits the theme really well!

Developer

Thanks a lot! I'll polish the game some more after the jam ends.
