How does the game fit the theme?
It's a Papers Please-esque game, so you have to scrutinize everyone who shows up, as any of them could be a youkai, hence, trust no one :^)

I used SFXR for sound effects, otherwise all code and assets were made by me

Simple but well-executed take on a Papers Please-like. Managed a high score of 345. The beeping sound when letting someone through did get a little grating though.

Great job and congrats for this being your first completed game it was well made. I played the game twice because the first time my fish memory kicked in and i forgot the rules for each character but then the 2nd time i managed to remember them and to my surprise I only let one yokai in so im taking the dub :)
four rules i can hold in my head and then youre just looking at people, thats the whole trick and you nailed it. i denied a samurai because i clocked a moustache against a parchment saying female, turned out she was legit and i ate the ten mon. that sting is the game working. cant believe this is your first finished one, congrats
