Victory! Had a lot of fun with this one :)
Great application of the Side Effects wildcard. I especially loved the bullet-size one. Genuinely quite challenging by the end. I didn't have a lot of max HP (because of my own choices) so I did a lot of running away.
Also, love that this game ties into your discord username so well lmao
Very fun little game! I don't know why I was so surprised when the goblins also got big bullets but I like your use of that wildcard. Shooting got a little weird if my mouse went to the second monitor, but I managed to recover in time and show those gobbos what's up. Great submission!
Amazing art and gameplay. You also did a great job with the wildcard, I really had to decide between some of the pros and cons. The all projectiles are bigger made me cackle when I saw what the goblins were shooting.
This felt like a great top down shooter. I liked the art, it was very cohesive all around.
I do wish there were paths between the nodes we could visit on the map

Thanks for the feedback and the video, that was incredibly insightful to see your actual thought process unfold as you realised how the map path worked.
You're absolutely right that a small visual between the nodes to indicate where you can actually travel would be a lot more intuative.
Thanks for trying it out!
Really cool bullet-hell game, very fun entry! My hybris got to me though and I died just before the boss.
Good work!
Thanks for the kind feedback. Glad you enjoyed it.
The speed is definetly something i accidentally overlooked until it was too late. Especially with how small of a render resolution the game is displayed at. Perhaps if everything was moving just a touch slower and the camera moved slightly with the aiming reticule it could help battle that speed/being hit offscreen a bit.
I did want to include some tooltips for each location on the map that might indicate what kind of cards/what the actual map was to have some form of an informed choice instead of the illusion of choice, but, time!
This was really cool. It would have been nice if you made it so you wouldn't get the same upgrade as twice in your selection.
Thank you!
You're right, i'll look at working that in for the future.
Fun game - I enjoyed playing!
Good first entry on this jam. Unfortunatetly I'm not the market for this kind of game. I think you've done well with this genre. I wish you best of luck for the jam
Thank you for trying it out, much appreciated!
Good use of the Wild Card. The pros and cons felt decently balanced and made it fun to pick between different options.
Nice little Nuclear Throne like! It'd be super cool to add more content later, since it does lack a bit of visual variety (or even a different sprite for the boss) but I understand for sure the lack of time :) (and you did it alone! Great job!)
A music would add to the desert atmosphere too I think.
I just kept stacking more damage and big bullets and I basically one shotted the goblins, which is my favorite way to play. 10/10 entry, I genuinely wish there was more to play
Very nice entry! I liked the concept a lot and I wished it had more content, which is great, being left wanting more is awlays a good sign for a game I think! I know time is scarce and I understand cutting content very well though. I liked the little map, but as it is I didn't figure out if there were any differences between different nodes. I went for an imprecise machine gun build (I just love attack speed so much in these games) and cleared the game first try.
Minor things I didn't like (while still enjoying the overall game very much, let me be clear):
- I think enemy bullets should have better contrast for visual clarity, either through different color, or an outline or both
- I felt like everything moved a tad bit too fast (character/camera and enemies), but this might just be personal taste or old age
Congrats and thanks for creating this nice little game! Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Very kind feedback!
I agree with all your points, it does move a bit too fast for a game that is displayed in that small of a resolution. It definitely could have done with some refining/playtesting there, as could the contrast on the enemy projectiles.
I wish i'd had time to work on some of the other upgrades i had planned, but yeah, time is scarce!
It's okay, you did great! We're the playtesters :D
this reminded a lot of Realm of the Mad God. art style, gameplay, even the sounds xD
cool game, finished it twice
Very fun to play, wished there were more powerups but the ones that were quite fun to pick between
Thanks! I had a lot more ideas down in the design doc (scrap of paper) but as is tradition with these things, time was not my friend.
Finished the game and it was not that easy cause I picked the bigger projectiles, haha. Fun concept and well executed.
Nice game, I liked the concept, and I thought the use of the upside and downside for powerups adds a nice element of strategy. While I didn't get stuck, I did notice some freezes that occurred throughout the game.
It got stuck for me as well, but the first level was super cute!
I like the upside+downside combo. It's really fascinating having my favorite go to buff (damage) come with a severe enough downside to actually need to not go crazy with it. With some time spent balancing the options, this could make a really engaging game loop!
Also I love that the 'increase all projectile's size' kinda looks a little like it's only upside until you think about it for an extra second. When I took it and the bullets were near undodgable, I did actually laugh.
Excellent work!
fun but I got stuck after the first level
Uh oh, two in a row! What browser were you using if you don't mind?
Good start -- After the first fight I could not progress for some reason (just stuck on the "winner winner" screen)
Ohh damn! Sorry! what browser were you using if you don't mind? I can't recall running into that issue myself or hearing it from playtests.
Strange! I wonder if it was something i did just before submitting.
Thanks for trying it out!
Chrome browser -- I can try others if it should work, or .exe. Thanks!
I've just tried to replicate it on chrome across 2 different computers and nothing, so it aint that! hah
Very strange, not sure how that's cropped up, sorry about that!
I think you need to pick up a chest in the map after winner winner shows up?
