Nice Hollow Knight inspired game! I really like the time recording mechanic, felt more natural than how a lot of other games this jam have been doing it. I think it would be nice if the camera was pulled back a bit, feels a little close to the player. Also not a huge fan of missing a blind jump and losing a lot progress. That aside, cool game!

Developer

we did think this might be an issue, but thought it would be OK due to being able to record and safely scout ahead, adding a bit of tension now and again. but you're completely right, we will look into making this a little more obvious.

Submitted

Cool take on this recurring idea I've seen across many games in this jam, but the atmosphere sets it apart. The platforming felt a little floating but nothing a little tweaking and some more polish wouldn't fix

Developer

we have seen similar ideas in other games yes, so thanks for the kind words. we did aim for a jump king type feel with the movement but many of our tester have had the same input so we are looking to change this.

Submitted

was really hoping to play this, but i couldn't seem to get it to work, neither through download or browser

only seemed to work on my phone weirdly enough, but there is no  way do control the game so it didn't quite work

but i really like the art and presentation! love the hollow knight inspiration !

Developer

That is such a shame, we tried our best to make it possible to play in as many ways as we could. If you're still interested in playing, I can see what I can do to send you a build privately

I like hollow knight so it was pretty cool!

Nice visuals, and the audio is also pretty good, although music could also be nice instead of just ambient noise (but that could just be a stylistic choice).

On the gameplay side, I got a bit too frustrated with the main mechanics. The jump is too floaty and feels quite bad. Added to the fact that you are required to jump on top of your reflections, which involves waiting for your past actions to record, then you have to wait for the jump to execute, it's just too much waiting for me honestly.

The in-game tutorial is also very unclear to me, I didn't understand the given symbols at all, and I had to go back to the game page to find the instructions. Now that could make me sound like a hypocrite, since I don't even have an in-game tutorial in my own entry, but if you bothered to include one in your game, I thought it should at least make sense.

Final thing is that your web build has too big of a resolution to display on my monitor so I had to download the PC build.

Developer(+1)

happy to see you took the steps to play the game, sorry to hear the experience didnt live up to your expectations. Yes, the onboarding could be improved, but we had to sacrifice in some areas to focus on others. and there is actually a sound track, it just gets introduced a little later in the game, after the tutorial.

tysm for the feedback, we are constantly looking to improve the game, so it really helps. the physics of the clone and jump are def things we are looking into, so stay tuned for future updates when they're improved.

This game is really pretty and pays nice homage to hollow knight without just copying its style completely, very impressive. The replay mechanic makes for very interesting puzzles, but the movement is certainly lacking. The character feels a bit too floaty and especially their very slow acceleration make the game quite frustrating at times. If it was a bit easier to control the character, I would certainly enjoy this game quite a lot. Overall very good work!

Developer(+1)

we are looking into changing the feel of the character, we did go through many iterations to get it to match the style of game we were going for, so it's good to get feedback on the current iteration. we especially appreciate the depth you went into, it really helps us understand our players to make a better game for them.

Submitted(+2)

The visual look great, i kind of like the idea but i have to admit, i struggled so hard with controlling the character that i gave up after a minute or 3. Nothing unfixable, i'd say the biggest problem is the sideways momentum the character has, all feels very physics based opposed to more coded movement. As a big hollow knight fan i clicked on this, and it kinda gives you an expectation of feel , not just look ... but what the game might "feel" like control wise, i love hollow knight for the looks, but in most part for it's tight feel and controls. Not that this game is bad, just to give insight what i found as a player. As a gamejammer... very nively done within this timelimit, cool art i really dig! I feel bad for not being good enough at your game to see more of the artwork and ideas.

Developer(+1)

We had much debate on what type of feel we wanted the game to have, and this is what we ended up with. I appreciate you going into depth on your reasoning, it helps us understand our players and make a better game for them. We will def be looking more into this to fine tune it to what feels best.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write it down, your feedback is super valuable. We're looking forward to hearing about further improvements you have once the changes have been made and you've had the chance to play a little more <3

yeah cool, keep me posted!

Liked the direction of art, especially audio! It took a bit of time to understand the mechanics and how to use it, but after that, it was not that annoying! I loved that in level design there are shortcuts, because they are really useful if you yeet yourself in the wrong direction with your clone:D

Developer

thanks kamile! we worked hard on rewarding more skilled players so I'm glad to see you got to experience some of that :D

Hollow Knight with a big ass

Butt it glows and jiggles :P

Super nice style! The Hollow Knight inspirations are clear as day, of course, and they make for some solid design for environments, audio and characters alike. I like how they combine with the "light" aesthetic of the firefly. The rewind mechanic is a pretty clever idea! There is a point to be made about it being more of a "replay" than a "loop", but it makes for some neat gameplay. Easily my biggest criticism is the Unity thing where moving platforms (your recording, in this case) don't transfer their momentum to the player sitting on them.

I haven't finished the game, but I might revisit it eventually! Nice work so far!

Developer

Super in depth analysis, I respect it and appreciate your phrasing.

We are thrilled to see you enjoyed it so much. and yes, we struggled a lot with the effect rigid bodies had on movement :(

The character design definitely paid homage to hollow knight, while the level design, movement, environment and mechanic came from Jump King, Ori and the sandevistan from cyberpunk, respectively.

P.S. if you do get round to playing it again, we would love your feedback on any more potential improvements <3

Submitted(+1)

No problem! I'm happy you appreciated my comment c: I will let you know if I revisit the game!

Submitted(+1)

Loved the animations and art style, the main mechanic felt pretty confusing at first but when you get it its a cool mechanic!

Developer

Happy to see you stuck around long enough to figure it out, and that you enjoyed doing so. Any feedback regarding the onboarding/teaching of that mechanic would be appreciated, as we went through many iterations trying to make it self explanatory without using words.

Submitted(+2)

Very high production value on this game, great job. I love the artistic style and the idea was very creative. Makes me think of Braid from back in the day!

Developer

Braid was another of our inspirations, I'm glad you picked up on it! We did spend a lot of time on the flare and juice of the game, so we appreciate the positive feedback.

Submitted(+2)

Really good looking game! Great exeecution of the idea and great level design!

Developer(+1)

I get giddy everytime someone mentions my level design. although the team wanted the player to rage quit after a while, the puzzle design was def something I enjoyed doing, thanks for noticing it <3

Submitted(+2)

The lighting and art are great! Reminds me a lot of Hollow Knight in the best way possible

Developer(+1)

Hollow knight was definitely an inspiration, so we are glad to have instilled the best feelings from it in you.

Submitted (1 edit) (+2)

The art is lovely, especially the animations. The main mechanic is cool, especially with the head-expand thing, but feels just a little bit janky at times. I feel like the music could have come in a little bit earlier too! Please consider checking out our game too! :]

Developer

thanks for the kind words, we worked hard, and yes! the music could've come in earlier to be appreciated by more people, but we wanted that annoying ambience every time you fell down :P

Submitted(+2)

This is a lovely game, the graphics remind me of Hollow Knight a bit. The loop mechanic is truly fun once you figure it out.

Developer(+1)

So glad to see you stuck around to figure it out!

Submitted

I'm surprised more people didn't. I was hooked!

Developer(+1)

absolutely thrilled to hear it! :D it was the core feature of our game afterall :D how far did you manage to make it

Submitted

Sadly not too far. I made it to like the third screen and just couldn't get past no matter how hard I tried. Might need some small balance fixes, but I admit, I'm better at making games than playing them -_-

Developer(+1)

third screen, is that the big jump after the cave you're referring to? or a little earlier?

I can attest to the puzzle design being a bit hard, as I personally enjoy a good challenge, but I think combining that with the difficulty of platforming made it a little poorly executed.

Submitted

A little earlier I believe. I don't think I got to the cave. It WAS challenging, and I feel like in a non-jam setting it'd get a lot of people into it. But for a jam, it ight be a bit TOO hard. Although I'm not one to talk. I designed a whole game that requires people to play to the midpoint and most people only gave it five minutes as it's a jam. :P

Developer(+1)

first jam for me, so its a learning experience, but youre completely right! next time it will be muuuuuch easier. thanks for the input <3

Submitted(+2)

This game is amazing, but I got stuck c’: How do you jump this high? I’d really like to get past this and see the rest of the game! The soundtrack is so good too! image.png

Developer(+1)

So glad to see Lumi piqued your interest and that you're eager to play more. We did experience some playtesters struggling with this too, so you're not the first! - the idea is to record yourself double jumping, which can be done just below you, using the terrain. hoped this helped, have fun! :D

Submitted

thanks for your reply!! looking forward to the future of this game c:

Submitted(+2)

Love the artstyle and the colors! Have seen many games with the past selves stuff, but the manual record feature is unique!

Submitted(+1)

The mechanic is really well implemented, but the character controller is just too floaty to have proper control. Great Job none the less :)

Developer(+1)

we fiddled a lot with the character feel to match other foddian games, a big inspo was jump king, but we definitely recognise its an area to improve. thanks so much for the feedback.

Submitted

No problem :)

Submitted(+2)

Dark Hollow knight trying to climb out of greenpath is more difficult than anticipated (: Really good job! I like how if you fall a bit you bounce back up giving you another chance. I think the controls are a bit clunky, but it might be intentional. I got just past the part where you have to record yourself sliding down, and jump on your slid character. Its cool how many different ways there are to use the ability (: Amazing work! (And awesome art)

Developer

Wow! you made it far, I'm impressed. And yes, we've been told Lumi is similar to hollow knight xD.

We are so glad to hear you enjoyed playing <3
