Really nice game! The shooting feels great and the final few sessions felt hectic but still fun and engaging, so that's great!
I also found the concept of the game being about the training section before the "actual" battle to be really funny, like the entire game is the tutorial for a game that doesn't exist (yet?) 😄 Really clever and fun!
Great work!
Thank you for playing and feedback!
From my perspective making torturial is a great test for the game concept, than you must just extend it (not saying I am going to do this with this concept :D)
Really super solid! Gameplay felt really tight and the art, music and SFX all worked really well together.
Like others have mentioned, I got a little frustrated with the aim angle limitation and I ended up just keeping the gun at a single angle and moving back and forth to hit things.
I thought the tutorial was fantastic though - really nice to have it built into the game and paced really well!
Awesome job!
Thank you for playing and feedback!
Congratulations, you made a tutorial that's fun to play :P a lot of actual high budget games could stand to learn from you :P
I did not personally care for the firing angle limitation (maybe it's something I could get used to though, I dunno! The nature of a short game is we don't have much time to acclimate to those sorts of changes, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad). However I really enjoyed the slight bullet travel time.
Thank you for playing and feedback!
So, idk why, but no enemies spawned in. I could move, dash and shoot, but there was nothing to shoot at. Not sure if this was a bug, or just me missing something.
That said, I really thought this looked cool. The gray color pallet gave it a cold, dystopian feel, and I absolutely LOVED the shell casings falling on the ground as you shoot. Very cool game, keep up the good work!
Maybe you didn't run to the next stage? First one is only lore introduction and basic movement. Doors on the right should open afterwards.
I really appreciate you noticed shell mechanic :D
Thank you for playing and feedback!
I liked the music and the art behind the game. It also felt very nice that the elements of the game were slowly getting introduced! One major thing that didn't sit quite right with me was the fact that I wasn't able to shoot upwards. Instead, the camera would switch sides in an awkward way and it would break my emersion a little. Still pretty good though congrats!
Thank you for playing and feedback!
Honestly a cool little game! I think it was an interesting take on the theme which was cool to see, the audio was quite well tied in with the game too!
One thing I noticed was the player sprite did blend in a little with the background and I think it could've been cool to make them pop out a bit more and the limited firing angle was a cool idea but in practice was a bit jarring to play with but not in a way that made the game unfun at all!
Overall a pretty good submission, congrats on your first GWJ! Hope to see you around more :)
Thank you for playing and feedback!
You are fully right about lack of contrast! I encountered this problem trying to make limited color palette, but didn't find solution till the end of jam. It's challenging!
You're welcome!
Yeah trying to work with a limited colour palette is always going to be difficult at times but despite this, I do think you did a pretty good job with it :) It's no easy feet but you can still tell the player apart decently well!
Excellent as always pavelee!!! I had fun shooting the bottles although it was a little frustrating at times. I didn't understand why the camera shift and the bullet travel time was programmed in there until I read the description.
Thematically consistent, good sounds, the physics seemed right-on. A quick fun challenge. A great game!
Sadly I haven't joined the jam so I can't rate, but this gets 5 stars!
Hey Ethan!
Good to see you and thank you so much for kind words! That's mean a lot for me!
I'm really glad you liked the challange :D
Nice work, this was challenging but still enjoyable. I think the bullet travel time works well, it makes you think but is fast enough to not be frustrating, and the higher accuracy when standing makes sense but I’m not sure about the limited firing angle, it felt limiting in an arbitrary way. I wonder if something like the rotation speed slowing around the top , as well as dramatically limiting walking speed could maintain the “high intention” feel you have. Playing it reminded me abstractly of Heavy Bullets, where you have a single bullet (IIRC) and have to pick up each time so every shot matters a lot.
Thank you for playing and feedback!
Very good game and has a huge potential i didnt see the need of the dash tho because u can just dodge them by only moving but great i like that its not super easy and i lost 2 times on the last round. Great job!
Thank you for playing!
You are right that dash mechanic is not well suited in the current version. In the first version game was more fast paced and dash had more sense, but I was worried that game will be too hard. I did had plan to make some cool animation and think how to redesign but didn't make it eventually
I really liked how this game prevented the stay in one place and spray tactic that I usually use for shooters haha, and also appreciated the onboarding through a tutorial! I found this game to be a really difficult test of spatial awareness (which I do not have much of lol). Not sure if intentional, but I found the scene camera's movement when changing directions to be a bit disorienting. But also the bottle shattering and clean animations made successful shots quite satisfying!
Thank you for playing and feedback!
Mechanic of moving camera when switching side is on purpose. I did experiment with imitating switch side with gun on shoulder, when you must to adjust your aim :D
fun and responsive game, pretty straight forward. the limitations for angle are nice for me, it adds a bit of nice difficulty.
I miss one thing if you accept suggestions: being able to shoot more than one bottle per shoot, and making combos or stuff like this.
I enjoyed playing and had a fun time. Everything worked and fitted together nicely.
The only thing I had issues with was the accuracy of the shooting the ray seemed to jump around quite a bit and miss the bottles. I feel a more satisfying solution would have probably been a cursor on an area2d which signals when the mouse is clicked within it, this would have given impact to the shots being fired with a real feedback when the bottle exploded.
Good entry 👍👍👍
Thank you for playing and feedback!
Congrats on the submission! This was actually a pretty hard game for me, it was pretty much impossible for me to keep track of what was going on so I just resorted to a mostly spray-and-pray tactic lol. I think if you considered making the bullets travel instantly it would make the shooting feel a lot better. Good job!
Thank you for playing and feedback!
Nice game, works very well!
I feel like the camera could be static since every room is the size of the screen or at least not pan left and right everytime I switch side, which makes aiming harder.
Other than that it was pretty fun!
Thank you for playing and feedback!
I did that mechanic to imitate switching your side with gun. I was experimenting with some mechanics to make shooting more different than usual :D
That was a very fun game you made there! I like the music, I like the style!
Even though its kinda hard, it kept me engaged which many hard jam games fail to do imo!
The two things that kinda bothered me were, that I couldn't shoot the whole range of motion and that when I died or didn't have any ammo it was literally just said to me instead of communicating it to me by animations/visuals or any other way.
Great Job keep it up :)
Thank you for feedback!
Limitation of range of motion is special mechanic that should force player to move and not sit in place rotating weapon around him. Probably here it need some adjustment, maybe higher angle.
Fully agree that game need more feedback for player, thank you for mentioning it!
Thank you again for your time and detailed feedback!
If a aim-trainer was a frantic shooter. Very nice!
Thank you for playing!
The standout element to this game is the tutorial and on boarding for the player. Even for someone like myself who needs a lot of hand holding when it comes to games, I at no point felt confused as to what my goal was or how to achieve it. Due to this alone, the theme of expansion is buried deep within this game’s DNA. The enemies also expand in scope during the playthrough which is a nice touch!
Also dig the concept in general. The limitations on shooting angles and actual bullet travel (rather than hitscan) force you to engage your brain.
Are you developing this further? I love what you have so far.
I really appreciate that you notice tutorial section, it was some challange for me to make it happen :D
I love you did notice limitations! That was my take to force player to use some brain as you said, instead just standing in place and shooting
I did some testing with godot engine physics to make shooting base on it. Not sure about game concept to develop further but maybe something with the physics shooting mechanic. There is a lot o possibilities to make something unique with that model of shooting
Thank you for the detailed feedback!
Very satisfying audio sounds!
Thank you for playing!
Love the glass shatter.
Thank you for playing!
