Confession: I do not know how to play Baccarat.

And after skipping the tutorial and not reading the rules, I still have no idea how to play Baccarat, but I almost made 200K. I did figure out that 9 was the magic number and there was some looping going on, but I learned that at the cost of 3 of my initial lives xD

Great game.

It was good! I liked it!

Submitted(+2)

This was great! I loved Arsonate and this reminded me of it

Submitted(+2)

I love Inscryption, so when the menu popped up, I got a familiar sense of excitement. I then tried to bluff Death on my very first hand and died with a 1 when he had a 9. 10/10 game.

Submitted(+2)

this was a super cool game! could definitely see myself getting addicted!

Submitted(+2)

I actually enjoyed it quite a bit! I made it to round 10 and got killed.

Submitted(+2)

This is peak holy shite, amazing work honestly, One of the best games in the jam!

Developer

Thank you so much! That means a lot <3

Thanks so much!

This game is cool! Love how in the background you can barely see death, correct me if I am wrong, but this game supousedly does not have an ending, instead it is just you going on and on collecting as much money as yuo can, that is not a bad thing, just wanted to know if there is a scripted ending to this. It is obviously heavily inspired by buckshot roulette, but it implements the theme well and it was overall pretty enjoyable! Amazing job!

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing! The game doesn't have an ending, you just play for a high score! Hopefully in the future we can add a cool storyline or something to it :)

Submitted(+2)

I see, that is totally fair, given the time we got, amazing job nonetheless!

Submitted(+2)

I knew I would like this game as soon as you mentioned the Inscryption inspo!

Really cool and well executed. Great art style as well!

Well done :D

I LOVE GAMBLING RAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

looks like a simple gambling game but the items add fair bit of strategy to it

i also love the visuals great job!

Submitted(+2)

I love card games. This is so cool! Very heavy Inscryption vibes, love that. The visuals are really good, and even though the gameplay itself is simple I had fun.

My one critique would be that because the text in the tutorial automatically advances without input, it might be easy for a slow reader to miss something. It was also very laggy for me, but I'm playing on a fairly low-end laptop at the moment so that's likely on my end. Will play again on my PC later to try and get a better score, haha.

Loved it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for taking the itme to play it! We were aware that the tutorial auto playing would be an issue, but we didn't have time to make it be clickable to progress, so we compromised by adding a rules reference in the menu. That being said, if / when we work on the game further, we'll definitely give the player control over when they progress the dialogue.

As for performance, its Unreal and the lighting isn't optimised the greatest. Its quite dark, so we needed more lights to balance it, which meant they overlap and its tough on the GPU. We thought that would be okay, but evidently not.

Either way, thanks so much for your feedback!

Great job! I enjoyed it thoroughly. I would have like some low-key but tense ambient music, but I'm biased in that regard.

Developer(+1)

It was a choice to just have ambience and no music, but we definitely could've done more with the ambience. That being said, I've found myself playing it and feeling like there should be music, so that can be something we look into. Thanks for playing! <3

Big Inscryption vibes, it was very fun to play and the style is great.

Submitted(+2)

this was so fun!! im not really good at card games, or games of this nature, but i never ever felt sleighted or put out by winning or losing because it was a lot of chance and a lot of good planning on ones own part!!! i enjoyed this greatly :3

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!!

The atmosphere and art is done amazingly! Got Buckshot Roulette vibes. Highest I made it out with was ~18k! Great sound design as well. I see a lot of potential. Looking forward to see where you guys go with this, if at all. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Hopefully we can continue to work on this and maybe someday release a full version :)

161, 500!!! I'm rich! What a fun game! You absolutely nailed the gameplay, I've never played or seen much Inscryption but I've seen Buckshot roulette and this is such a good addition to the genre, if not better than them as the gameplay goes a bit deeper I feel! All the items were very cool and unique as well (loved the meow on the cat item lol)! Visuals are super good too, the environment is really well laid out and the lighting is great, love the shadow effect you have! This could definitely be made into a full release, amazing work!

Developer(+2)

Thank you for such kind words, Glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully it does turn into something that we can fully release!

Developer(+1)

161,500 is a score we haven't seen someone get yet, well done! It's definitely on the radar to release fully. It'll definitely need something more to be fully released, but we're super happy with the demo here. Thanks for taking the time to play it!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I was curious if I could beat your high score and I managed to lol. Yes this is a challenge.

Submitted(+1)

Tried for a bit and I couldn't :(

However playing more made me think that Death winning draws could be changed, either you just make it a draw or perhaps spice it up with a gamble so it's not an automatic loss, cause it kinda sucks to use all your items strategically to get a 9 and then just lose anyway. Still though, extremely good game, I would not have gone back to play more if I didn't think so, this is really good!

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

The idea of Death not winning draws floated around, but we decided to keep it so that you can never be 100% confident that your hand will win unless you manipulate his hand, to keep the gambling feeling. That being said, we recognise that it sucks to invest into a hand only to ose. Maybe the middle ground is do a dice roll or something when you do draw, or maybe base the winner off of who has the best hand value without dropping tens. Definitely something we'll look into, thanks a bunch! <3

Let's go gambling! Aw dangit. Aw dangit. Aw dangit. Aw dangit. I really like the items you came up with for this loop, very creative mechanics compared to the rest of the genre. Also, those crosshatched shadows are gorgeous!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks a bunch! The crosshatching was my pride and joy from a dissertation I wrote on stylized rendering inspired by a GDC talk by the Inscryption dev, and this felt like a perfect opportunity to rip it apart and put it into our project. As for the items, my favourite is the cat statue that makes a yelp as it gets pulled upwards after you use it. That was a funny one to make.

Developer(+2)

I had so much fun coming up with the items while making this! Credit goes to Tyler's (MythicTy) post-process for those shadows!

Submitted(+1)

I'm not a big card game person but I really enjoyed this one...and I love the art style.....death killed me in the end :') Keep up the good work. :D

Developer (1 edit)

Death is inevitable! It's also an opportunity for riches! Maybe you can put your riches in your will...
Thanks so much for checking it out!

Submitted(+1)

No probs...If you want you can also check out my game, I would appreciate it. :)

Developer(+1)

Already on my list for this evening :)

Submitted(+2)

A very pretty and interesting game! I especially liked the items that spawned, their design was cool and using them made each round more interesting!

Submitted(+2)

I'm not a card games kind of person but I definitely enjoyed this, even if I didn't understand much (of no fault of yours, I'm just not tuned for card games), I like the Buckshot Roulette style too.
