this is an amazing game!  SO polished for the amount of time in which it was made.  it totally takes me back to playing Zelda and Metroid, both of which were among my favourites and both of which share a similar vibe to yours.  i have no suggestions at all, because it's basically a flawless example of this type of game.  very, very well done!

side note:  i'm also so impressed that you've taken the time to make playthroughs of the other submissions.  it's a great example of supporting other developers and making the jam a super positive experience overall.  A+++

This game feels really polished and complete in every way possible, the artwork is crazy! I liked how the level design is simple enough to make me wanna continue playing, because I'm one of those guys who don't really like hard rpg style games, I think the difficulty in this game is just perfect. Maybe the controls can feel a little bit off after playing for a while, mainly because the more you progress in the game, the more enemies you have to face, and when those enemies are launching projectiles and things like that...MMMM, it gets kinda hard, but I think that's the whole point of the game isn't it?

Great work my friend, gonna give it a really good rating!

Fun game! Lots of weapon/enemy variety and the fact that I never had to stop and take a look at the map to figure out where to go reflects well on the level design. Liked the music to.  I do think a sound effect for the weapons would make hitting enemies feel more impactful.  The controls also feel a bit too stiff for some of the obsticles like when weaving between projects (during the gnome boss fight for example). Wouldve liked the stamina bar above the player to see it more easily during combat.

Couldnt get up a latter because of an enemy blocking it:

Great game! I like the system you've set up and the Dark Souls reference. I don't know if it's a bug, but sometimes when I jump and click, I get suspended in mid-air hitting things, haha. I hope to finish it one of these days.

The game looks very well designed, levels, gameplay & pixelart were all great, I had some troubles when moving stopped on my controller, but I blame that on my very old xbox controller which I don't use often, there was a variety of enemies, even very early in the game, I first died on the collapsing bridge, the music and audio effects were also well done, I thought for a moment there was no music cause it was turned quite low in the settings, but you had a well designed settings menu also, lastly, I use a different keyboard layout than qwerty and my keys seems to not control the character at all, that's why i played with controller, which is better for these type of games anyway :)

overall, very well done!

Wow the game has a lot of content and looks really nice! Good entry! I don't like that attacking stops any movement like falling or moving. I guess you wanted to make kinda dark souls since there are bonfires, enemies respawn and stamina, but i don't think that stamina really fits here since it makes the game slower. But overall this game is really good!

Extraordinary design and engineering! The first thing I noticed was the excellent level design. The way dungeons, level-ups, keys, and power-ups are naturally connected makes the progression feel organic rather than linear. It flows very well and feels very thoughtfully constructed.

The graphics are beautiful, and the character movement feels pixel-perfect, which I really appreciate. The controls and physics are smooth and clean. The boss fight was a bit challenging with the WASD controls combined with the space key, but that is understandable. I could easily see this becoming a strong title on consoles.

One thing I noticed is that same-room enemies respawn immediately after Rest. I am not sure whether this is intentional, but it creates a small loophole where players can repeatedly rest, defeat enemies, and level up more easily than expected. The respawn on room transition, on the other hand, feels like standard dungeon design and works very well.

Great work! Played all the way to 100%.

Detected a couple issues:

 - Enemies can shoot from outside the screen if they are aggroing you and you change screens

 - Sometimes they spawn right at the edge, the entrance point of a screen, giving no chance to avoid contact damage

Design wise, only thing I didn't like much was the wall jump that does not allow continuous climbing. Not sure about the stamina mechanic too, felt like it slowed the pace a bit too much.

Overall, fantastic achievement in such a short timeline!

Wow, hard to believe you have so much content in the game! I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the level design. Very polished and there's a lot there to come back to. The only suggestion I would have is to incorporate a vertical attack (maybe you already have and I just haven't reached there).

Hey! This is quite good, the game feel is nice and polish for some parts of the game is amazing! It crashed after some time though, so I didn't beat the whole game. I have some things that's on mind, so here I listed them (I don't mean they are problems, but they may be questionable game design choices. It's ok if you intended things this way.):

  • Attack makes player not falling
  • Jump has fixed height, I think it's a mordern classic to make character jump higher when pressing space longer
  • Some art feels polished, some as temporary assets. I don't think it's a good idea to make a long game before you nail first couple of levels.
  • The game has DS mechanics (stamina, bonfires, item logic, leveling), but the game itself is faster. Do you actually need a stamina bar here?
  • Ring gives you double jump, but it should be "equipped". It feels a bit strange

Anyway, I like good platformers with lite metroidvania maps. But it's very hard to stand out. The game should have a unique hook or be VERY, like, REALLY well-made, best of the best. It's already better than half of the platformers I played, but the scene is very crowded, so idk...

Thank you so much for playing and taking the time to write such great feedback! :)

I would also be curious to know I’d you were playing with Keyboard & Mouse when it crashed. I’m assuming the keyboard input stopped working which seems to happen with arrow keys / tab for some people.

Yes, I was playing with keyboard+mouse in web version. It happened in the dungeon just in a few minutes after picking up a heavy hammerweapon. The screen just stopped updating. I have the same issue with my jam entry, I think it's some kind of memory leak.

Impressive game overall! I found an issue: I saved the game before opening the crystal ball chest, then completed the quest. I didn't save afterward and died in the next area. In the next load, the crystal chest was open, but the quest was still incomplete.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Sorry, that happened to you and thank you for reporting it.

I was able to fix the bug and look forward to updating after the jam ends.

Very cool small souls like. The controls are good and like the pixel-art.
It would benefit from some 2d light effects, I think that could contribute to the overall vibe of the game.

For controls I think the gravity is bit high, the player falls quite fast after a jump which is cool for a jump and run but fells kinda off for such a typ of game.

Overall you did a amazing job.

Awesome that you made this in only a month!

Very good, I like the gameplay and I think you could expand this further or even make a sequel! For some reason the game didn't pick up my keyboard, but luckily it worked with the gamepad! Might be something worth looking into.

Overall, the game is pretty big and quite polished, it feels very strongly designed as well, with most gameplay quirks feeling intentional (such as attacking mid-air stopping you).

Congratulations, it's clear this had a lot of work!! Good job!! :D

That was a ton of fun. Love the story lol.  At first, I thought there were 111 upgrades. I misread the checks and was like holy moly, I'm gonna need a lot of cash.
Also sometimes pressing esc locks the game controls up. I can swing but not move anymore and esc doesnt open the menu

Thanks for playing! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, I mostly played with a gamepad. Discovering that various keyboard inputs lose focus on the game canvas at times. I’ve mostly seen TAB / Arrow Keys cause the issue. I cannot reproduce the issue with ESC.

Hopefully you didn’t lose too much progress when it locked up.

Submitted

Yeah, it was weird; it wasn't consistent regarding ESC. What's also weird is that it's like there is a text field somewhere, because Grammarly would pop up when it happened sometimes, but I couldn't see what I was typing.

But regardless, it was ok, I had always rested close to it happening each time, so it saved my progress.

This is absolutely amazing - the polish, the feel, the lore. Great job!
