How does the game fit the theme?
It's a very strange place, this manor....
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
I used the Synty Horror Mansion Pack and Game Creator 2, as well as sounds and music from Pixabay.

Thanks for submitting your game to the stream! If you wanted to look at the playthrough again in the future here's the VOD timestamped to your game
Thank you Ategon! If you want to check out the post jam version, it will be released after voting is over. :) A lot of new stuff and changes based on feedback. FPS camera, expanded minimap, colored keys, longer tip persistence time, bug fixes and more!
It was a little hard to follow the radar, but I thought that the main enemy was very cool!
Incredible! Looked great, spooked me a bit! My main critique would be that I had trouble finding things by following the radar. Crazy amount of work for one person, good stuff!
The game looks very good and polished, the creepy music creates the right atmosphere and I like the game concept.
Little problem is that the game was quite lagging even though I have some really good hardware. It might be the browser im using(Firefox).
Also really liked the mini cutscenes that showed the maiden and probably a ghost when entering the East Wing Room.
About that, when the maiden first spawns it doesn't actually take count of the player position because I ran to get past that part after I died a couple of times and the maiden spawned right on me and killed me.
Also, had a hard time playing backwards as I had to constantly look at the maiden.
Overall really enjoyed the game, found the controller smooth and the visuals very well made,
good job!
Thank you! Did you have any more feedback other than the lag and the controls/camera? Those are issues I'm already aware of and fixed for the post jam version. Did you have any trouble with finding things, or notice any glitches? Thanks again
I couldn't really understand how the radar works, with the suns, as I thought It would signal where the Items are but then went Just exploring without It.
So the way it works is sort of like a minimap, only it will display the icon regardless if it is above or below you. When an icon is near the top tip point of the black arrow, that means it is in front of you. If you don't see anything in that case, it is below or above you. I'm not sure how to make above/below indicators, but I will look into it.
Thank you for the feedback! I hadn't thought of a creepier walking animation, but that might be a good idea!
The sound effect I did have in an early version, but since I check if she's visible on update, the sound effect would constantly play (even when I had it wait to complete first, which caused other issues like her not freezing immediately). But now that I have all the time to work on the game, maybe I will revisit that! 👍🏻
The post jam version includes an indicator of how many keys you got, but I hadn't planned on showing each individual door. Though now that you mention it, it might be a better idea than just showing how much you have. I'll get to work on that tonight!
I really appreciate comments like this. If you have any other suggestions for things that could use some work, feel free to let me know! 😉
Hello hello! :) Really interesting answers. The sound effect bug sounds annoying, indeed. Specially if it bugged the main mechanic, so great that you moved that out of the way to focus on the freezing mechanic! Maybe you can add a small vignette effect in the borders of the game window that indicates she’s chasing you, and the closest she is, the more dark the border is, like this:
Love the post jam updates as well. You can try playing with colors to recognize quickly the doors, like making one key silver, and the room door having a small silver detail like the knob, a silver frame, or something that you can connect quickly by the eye from far away, instead of getting close to know the room name. Or having the hotel map in the radar with small labels of each room as well, that would be cool :)
Thank you as well for appreciating my comment :) I always like to share constructive helpful things I find in games, and glad you are open to them! Congrats on the game, I will follow it post Jam! :D
🙏🏻
That cover art looks better now :D.
About the game itself, great use of the assets and sound with music, for a solo dev it's pretty impressive. Tbh I didn't get very far but I did try to visit all of the room and got the first key in a chest (That child's room behind a toilet was a choice lol). Else I did not get very far:
1. The camera was really nauseating for me (I do suffer from mild car motion sickness but most of the time I can do FPS fine) so I cannot sit in front of the game very long, I did have to walk away after the play
2. I think most of the game is find key -> open door, but I have no idea which of the door the first key was supposed to open so I kinda don't know where to proceed (maybe the game did show me but it went too fast?)
As you mention you have plan post-jam so that's a good start already, so keep on the good work
Thank you! Yes, the FPS camera and improved guidance are already done in the project. Just waiting on the voting period to end, as I prefer to use the same game page as the jam game to post the updated version. I didn't start until there were 4 days left, so there was a lot that was unfinished unfortunately. I wanted to add more of a story element to the game, iron out lots of bugs, and make a lot of the enivronment interactable. Much of that has mostly been finished already. Can't wait to share it with y'all!
Interesting game and great atmosphere! The camera was a little wonky but overall, I like the idea of the game.
Thank you! 🙏🏻
I love the atmosphere established here!
The phone messages and radar informing you of what you need to find was a nice touch too, I like when tutorials are sort of integrated to fit in the game like that
As someone else pointed out, I do also think the 3rd person POV view made moving around pretty jarring (I saw your previous comment on adding it post-jam! I think it'd be a great addition)
Really nice game. I'll say I really am not a horror fan at all, like honestly I don't think the lighting and the perspective really doesn't make that much sense for a game like this, but I was still overly anxious for no reason lol
A few notes:
- I'd wager the reason you're not attracting that many people is your thumbnail. As in...it's really really unclear what I'm looking at. Initially I genuinely thought maybe that was a mecha or something, but it's really difficult to understand what I'm looking at.
- The lighting and saturation do not spell "horror game" to me, it feels more cutesy if you get what I mean?
- My boyfriend passed by while I was playing and was very confused at the screen going black, and I explained that it was blinking and he said "but like, you're in third person though" which I hadn't even thought of because as a doctor who fan I immediately got that mechanic from "weeping angel", but thinking about it yeah it would make more sense in first person lol
- it's pretty difficult to know what I'm supposed to do, in the sense that I'm not sure where the things I'm told to find are. Perhaps a glowing indicator, a minimap, or even just more precise directions from the person texting you could help a lot
- In that same vein, maybe more descriptive keys could help, because I took a long time to figure out where the only key I could find could open
Sorry I couldn't play past the maiden's appearance, I really don't do horror lol
But it's honestly a very impressive game for a single person in a week! Thanks for your submission
Thanks for the in depth review! There is a radar, and it's getting expanded upon in the post jame version, along with FPS view ;)
Oh I didn't notice the radar. Maybe that's my bad and I missed it, but maybe it could be on by default or something
I have a pop-up tip that comes up every 60 seconds if you never open the settings menu, but it's gonna be in the post jam version
Cool game, the instructions flashes a bit fast and I was confused how to play it at first. Really liked the atmosphere.
Thank you for playing 😁
super spooky atmosphere! I tried this game many times but couldn't do it lol. Don't usually play scary games but it was fun while it lasted :)
Thanks for playing!
i liked the gameplay. Very good level design, the atmosphere is spooky/unsettling. Audio levels are a bit high. But i wanna leave it on a high note, great job!
Thanks for playing! You can adjust the volumes in settings. :)
Finally finished the game (with a huge amount of help). The game is really well done. These endless chasing weeping angels are super terrifying and induce that dread and urgency that makes the game tense. Although seeing the maiden actually move (caused by the maiden being visible on screen, yet you are not in direct line of sight) feels funny and breaks the illusion a bit. But overall, I love the atmosphere a lot.
My biggest complaint is that I hated the third-person camera, which triggers motion sickness extremely easily. It forces me to pause the game frequently, can't search the place as thoroughly, while also lowering the difficulty, just to not turn the camera too much. It seriously made the game way less fun than it needed to be.
Other things I like:
Suggestions:
Anyway, this is really well done. Keep up the good work!
And remember, DONT BLINK. The maiden is behind you.
Some great suggestions! The first person camera was highly requested so I've went ahead and already implemented that into the post-jam version, which I will make public once voting is over. Thank you so much for your in depth review and sticking with it til the end despite the motion sickness! I'm about to try your game and I promise to give yours the same attention level! Thanks again 🙏🏻
Wow, i love the atmosphere of the game, good job
Thank you so much!
You have made a lot of progress compared to the version I tested halfway through the jam. Most of the bugs I encountered on my first play test have been fixed and I feel like you've also fixed most of my small complaints with the game. The ambiance is still great and there is way more tension since the behaviour of the maiden is more consistant.
Still the tps camera is a questionnable choice imo for this type of game and makes moving through the manor a bit tiresome. The underground fog makes navigating the basement a bit weird. The maiden is still harmless when outisde the manor.
Anyway this is imo a really good submission and I had fun playing through your game!
Thank you!
Sick visual arts! Congratz.
I didn't encounter any significant bugs. Sometimes, even though I was looking at the door, I couldn't interact; I needed to be looking from the exact right angle. I think it's a collider issue. The eye-closing mechanic is also well thought out. The overall atmosphere of the game made me quite tense. I found it very successful. Congratulations.
Thanks! The door interaction, I guess that's because it is related to the pivot point on the door, which is on the bottom corner. I hadn't had anyone have an issue with it until voting started 😢
The concept of a Weeping Angel in a manor has potential to be terrifying as hell. But what I think brings this game down as a horror game the most is the Third Person gameplay, which on top of that makes it sligthly more difficult (at least for me) to traverse the building. The interact system (opening doors, picking up items) is relatively buggy too.Still though, even if the environment came from a paid asset pack, the atmosphere is still there and the visuals in general look really nice. I like the purple hue the atmosphere has. This a pretty good game overall and I can see a lot of effort was put into this. Good job! After returning to this game and actually playing it through, I can say this game is compelling.
I got stuck because I didn't notice the "Attic key" notification I got when I picked up the crucifix. Seeing that your attention is led straight to the text messages, I think the white text is in a terrible localtion.
Anyway, It helped me to figure out the game's whole design philosophy (Go to room, find item, find key, go to that key's room, repeat). I noticed that the maiden has an interesting way of moving to you, mostly strafing around you, it's generally also a well executed weeping angel type enemy. I found myself having to strategically make her move to a different spot so I can pass her risk-free.
I liked the artstyle (altough the cool stylized fog strained my eyes slightly) and the atmosphere in general. The sound design is simple but functional.
The negatives I mentioned in my striked through rendition of my comment still apply, buuutttt I'm definitely giving this better ratings now
Dang lol 😕 harsh
Thanks for playing at least.
I didn't mean to be harsh or discouraging by any means, and if it seemed like so then deepest apologies.
I'll replay it just for reconsideration then edit my comment
No you're fine lol Just wasn't expecting that, I had a lot of testers from the discord and fixed everything they mentioned. What about the interaction was buggy?
It's kind of like a "works whenever it wants to" kind of a thing, though it doesn't bring the game a lot.
Anyway, you can read my new review of this game
Thanks for giving it another shot! Interesting though, you got the attic key when you picked up the crucifix? That's odd. May need to lower the radius of interactions, though that will further break door interactions so I will have to rethink those somehow.
Yeah if I recall correctly I picked up both at the same time
That is really odd and should not have happened. I'll see what I can do.I have figured out why. I forgot to check the bool isPlayerControllable when doing interactions. You likely hit E while the dialog was open. I will post a fix in a few minutes here.
epic
It's live now :)
