How does the game fit the theme?
Often a 'strange' place is not strange because of the place itself, but because of the people and the rules in that place. House Rules applies that idea to a new type of chess, where every strange person has their own strange rules -all across the globe.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?

Congratulations! Impressive that you not only made a solid board game with a good interface and movement, but backed it up with nice graphics, sound, and even funny dialogue!

This game was great! Congratulations on the win! Man that all knight board is hard. It seems like the only way to win is to kill all of the enemies knights. Which is pretty hard.

I was impressed on how many locations there were. It was really an impressive game!

I've stated in my team group chat multiple times that this game deserved to win and am happy that was the case :> Gratz !!

Developer(+3)

Thank you so much, we were freaking out yesterday we actually won. We're planning on making a second version so follow for updates and thanks for playing and supporting!

Okay, you basically invented a new chess-checkers type of game. I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw that you added more different types of pawns and also different board sizes while keeping the levels nicely balanced. Very great game, good job! :)

Developer(+2)

Thank you! We tried pretty hard to make it accessible but also engaging, so glad you liked it. Appreciate the kind words!

Wow ! Loved it ! So much level and clever idea. Each time I was "i finish this level then I go to sleep", but I wouldn't stop and finished the 15 levels !

Really well done

Feel free to test our game

Developer(+2)

Wow thanks for playing it all the way, glad you enjoyed it and sorry for robbing you of sleep lol! I actually already played your game and had a great time, the blade runner pizza aesthetics were on point. Thanks again!

This game has a chance to win the game jam. Nice work!

Developer(+2)

Thanks so much for saying so! We're so excited for the results and everyone on the team has been crossing fingers and knocking on wood for the last two weeks. Its crazy and means a ton to have so many people think we're in the running.

Submitted(+3)

I really loved the idea, great job!

feel free to try our game as well :)

Developer(+2)

Thanks a lot and will do!

Loved everything about this good. The rules, the characters, the graphics, the dialogue and the audio. My favourite of the jam so far. And I even finished it, although I coludn't find out where to use my easter egg!

Well done.

Developer(+2)

Thanks so much for the kind words! The team worked around the clock to get it playing, sounding and looking just right. So glad you liked it and for the easter egg, if you click the 'O' in 'House Rules' in the title screen seven times it'll unlock all stages now. Also theres a second more hidden easter egg that exists if you wait for a bit on the map... but you didn't hear it from me.

The characters "fake dub" with the chess pieces was such a nice touch!! As a casual chess enjoyer this game was a 10/10, the only thing that anoyed me was that clicking 2 times on the dialogue skiped it instead of just completing the character's text.

If you guys are interested in another wacky characters game pls try our game Nowhere Cuisine!!

Developer(+3)

I just added the dialog fix for the second version! I was also annoyed at that lol. The piece dub was actually suppose to be a placeholder that we ended up keeping and people really liking funnily enough. But thanks so much for enjoying and the nice comment! Will check out your game!

incredible game, It is hard to believe this game is made in a week. It is well polished and  well designed.

Developer(+1)

It was a lot of late nights and a lot of luck that everything aligned so well. I'm glad you enjoyed playing it and thank you!

Submitted(+2)

This is perfect! The idea of a chess game with only pawns is so interesting and all the levels we're really good, for a week long jam, 11 levels are actually insane work, keep the good work up! I had so much fun playing this!

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much! We wanted to take chess, make it easier then make it more crazy and difficult was the concept. We had a prototype and had a friend test it by thursday then after that we rushed to just clean it all up and stuff as much good content as we could in. Also fun fact theres actually 15 stages if you wanna go back and play more (Click on the 'O' in the main menu a bunch and you can instantly unlock all the levels). Thanks for enjoying it!

Submitted(+2)

This is easily the winner of this jam in my opinion! Everything was top notch, from the gameplay to the music! Really great work on this one!

Developer(+1)

Wow that's high praise! Thank you so much, we really put our heart and soul into this one, late nights the whole week basically. It means a ton that everyone's been  enjoying it and that we'd even be considered for the top spot. Thanks for enjoying and playing it!

This was so good! Theres so much flavor in this game, it's incredible. I love the fish with hands, the upside down 7 for australia, the overall idea for the game. Amazing!

Developer(+1)

Haha I was thinking we could do a mermaid and that would make a lot of sense, but then thought it'd be way funnier to just have a fish with hands.  The Australia stage really still makes me laugh with all the upside down stuff and didgeridoo music. Our musician complained a lot about not knowing how to make didgeridoo music lol. Thanks so much for playing!

Submitted(+2)

I loved this! Omg!! I played the whole thing and I rlly liked this! This should have high ranking!

Developer(+2)

Wow thanks for the playing the whole thing! The whole team appreciates it :)

Submitted(+3)

I love this, all of it is really well done. Level 10 was really hard... and I did forget the "secret," oops, but I did find the other secret. Favorite entry so far!

Developer(+1)

Appreciate it a lot! Our musician really wanted to add in a breakcore/jungle song and we thought we needed something epic to really make it feel like it fit, hence the angel stage. Also glad to see that someone found the hidden easter egg, that was Ian's, our writer's, favorite dialog. (For the other secret just click on the 'O' in the title on the main menu a bunch) Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+3)

I don't like chess, but I like this game. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a ton! Makes me very happy that non chess people like it :)

The mix of the sounds and art reminded me of a mash up of Street Fighter 2 and The World Ends with You. The main challenges were interesting to see all the different rules changing, and I was impressed with the quick onboarding experience. The game felt fun to pick up and was quick to learn. Nice game!

Developer(+1)

You hit the nail on the head with street fighter II that's exactly what I was thinking of when I was designed the map and how we wanted to go across the globe. I haven't heard of 'The World Ends with You', but I'll have to check it out. We were trying to add a little bit of 90s hip hop styling with the record scratches and graffiti like black and white lettering aesthetic so maybe thats what you're picking up. We also tried to integrate the tutorial with the gameplay to not only save time but also reduce player frustration. Very glad you pick up on all that and thanks so much for playing!

I really like the visuals of the game. It’s an interesting gameplay, a shorter version of a chess-style game and is very easy to get into. The different places you travel to are unusual and add a nice touch. Very polished overall. Good job!

Developer(+2)

Thanks for playing! Everyone put a ton of work in to get it polished from our musician adding ambient backing to our chess backend coder making a ton of boards and only using the ones he thought played well. We also really wanted to encompass the theme not just have a chess game so we want to make the locations a focal point of the whole thing that tied everything together. Glad you enjoyed it!
