Lovely game, nice story, great mechanic for day/night and great level design to mix the platforming with it. Excellent idea and well structured. And Lumi is such a memorable character. I would love to play more of this game. Excellent Job!!! Congrats.
What a great platformer. The effect where you shift worlds is very good. The level design is very nice, and felt satisfying to complete. I only wish there was more! Fantastic job!
Wonderful game. Thanks so much for making it. Really reminded me of A Fold Apart. Thanks a lot for making it.
I have never heard of that game! I'll have to check it out! Thank you so much!!
I really enjoyed this one!
The day/night switching mechanic is a fantastic idea and it was genuinely fun figuring out how each version of the world could help me progress. The atmosphere is cozy, the little character is charming, and the overall presentation feels very polished.
I did run into a bug where I fell into a gap and got stuck without being able to jump back out, which forced me to restart the game. Aside from that, I had a great time with it.
I can definitely see why so many people are asking for more levels. The core mechanic is strong, the puzzles are enjoyable, and it feels like the kind of game that could easily grow into a larger project. Great work!
Oh my goodness thank you SO much for the kind words <3 I have seen others report that issue with the book stacks and getting stuck so I will make sure I look into that more clearly or adjust the colliders! I really wish I had more time to add more levels, thank you!!
Loved the switching mechanic! I honestly think it would be much better if the entire game is in the capsule image art style.
I know, I really wanted to do this! I'm going to follow Grant's grease pencil tutorial on his YouTube soon. I had to use 3D art assets I bought from the GameDev.tv game jam bundle since I'm not a 3D artist and only a 2D artist so I do plan on using those. I did the 2D art so I would have LOVED to do all of the art!
Fun side scroller, I like how the player has to switch between day and night to pass through some obstacles, collecting plant builds vine, which was nice element of level design. The game stuttered at some points, but the overall experience was fun. Good work on this.
Thank you so much! It seems to only stutter on the web version, but I am still looking into it especially for my next game <3
I loved the day/night shifting mechanic, well done I enjoyed playing this thru to the end. tygg
Lots of good quality, visually, the sound, the level design, and the amazing day/night mechanic, thats the kind of game I love. You did amazing, well deserved result you get to share!
Thank you!!
Cool looking game... well done!
Great idea and fun game. Too bad it's short.
Thank you <3 I really wish I had more time to design 1-2 more levels for the game jam, but I wanted to fit in the artwork for the main menu scene, intro dialogue, and the little soot character! I did the art myself so it took up a full day within itself :P Butttt I got to learn simple animations!!
It’s a short game, but it still feels like a complete experience with a proper beginning and ending , exactly what you’d want from a game jam entry. I had fun while playing, and that first switch moment was a real wow moment for me. It was completely unexpected. Solving the puzzles was very enjoyable, and I didn’t encounter any bugs. I also really liked the little character.
Omg thank you so much for this comment <3 This made my day today! I had so much fun with that shader when switching day/night mode! I really appreciate it! I didn't get to design 1-2 more levels like I originally wanted since I really wanted to take the time to draw the main menu scene and include the intro dialogue!
Nice little game, especially considering it's your first one.
The main character is somewhat mismatched with the rest of the 3D props, but it's a pretty minor thing.
I liked the scene switching mechanics, but I have to say I really didn't enjoy the static noise transitions. It feels really jarring and fatiguing to me, both visually and audibly, especially since you have to switch between them very often to solve the puzzle. If you could change it to a smoother, much gentler transition, I think it will improve the player experience much better. It would also fits the rest of the game more.
I would also tweak the jumping a bit to make the player not as floaty. I would also add pitch-shifting to the footstep sounds to make it less monotonic.
Overall, still a decent entry. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
Yessss I am a 2D artist so the 3D models came from the game jam asset bundle they sold prior to the game jam so that would be the reason. I really want to eventually go for a grease pencil style so I can keep my hand-drawn feel in there but make it 3D, but I didn't have time to learn 3D modeling for the jam <3
Ah thank you for that feedback! I grabbed my noise sound effects from my subscription with Envato so I will definitely scout out a different sound effect if I continue down this path or learn to make my own :)
I did add coyote timers for jumping so I could pull the gravity down once you cross the arc of your jump, but I might have to tweak it more to be more dramatic <3 I was playing Rayman Legends while coding this trying to get a feel for their jumping since I absolutely love how that game feels as a platformer!
Thank you SO much for the wonderful feedback!
Nice done, a bit short but i like the mechanics of switching the dimension. Really cute and well made art.
Thank you thank you! I really wish I had time to design 1-2 more levels for the game jam!
Nice work , Nice visuals and can easily expand. The cute guy is very Susuwatari. hehe i had to look that one up.
Aweee thank you!! <3 He was VERY heavily inspired by Spirited Away that's for sure!
It was a little short but levels were well designed.
Awe thank you! I really wish I had time for at least 1-2 more levels <3
Cute game! Lovely graphics and that little fela looks awesome!
Thank you so much!! This means the world to me! I had so much fun drawing little Lumi <3
Brilliant! I hoped to see the same graphics as the cover image but still great game!
Well I drew the cover art and the little sprite character. The 3D models came from the GameDev.tv game jam bundle they had on sale prior to the game jam. I'm hoping to follow Grant's YouTube videos on the grease pencil on simple 3D models that I could model in Blender so I could achieve the same art style that I drew for the main menu and Lumi. I am only a 2D artist so I did the art where I could D: The 3D models are beyond me at this point!
I hope my comment didn't hit in the wrong way. I didn't mean that in a bad way at all, the game is good, I just think that your art on top of it could make it a gem, that's a compliment if anything :)
Aweee no no, not at all. I really appreciate that! I was sad that I had to use 3D models from an asset bundle since I really wanted it to be all my art, but tis is the game jam length constraint :P I REALLY appreciate the kind words. You're way too sweet! I can't wait to learn from Grant on the grease pencil! I hope it's easy to carry over those nodes into Godot <3
This is a great start to something that could be a chill little experience. A bit of polish to contrast certain things and make them stand out better would go a long way, but overall, I think you nailed it. Keep up the good work!
Awee thank you! I was really struggling with the daytime environment post processing especially since I had to restrict this game to compatibility mode which doesn't have things like volumetric fog available to it and various other things. It's something I definitely want to keep tweaking! I have never done indoors or else I would have just stuck with directional light, but that doesn't make much sense for an indoor environment :P
I like the concept of switching between night and day and how the mood changes with the transition. I also like the environments and the lack of shadows gives it a unique look.
I did encounter a bug where I got stuck and was unable to jump out, forcing me to refresh.
It was also visually unclear that I could jump on this spot. I wandered around a bit wondering what I needed to do before I accidently jumped on this.
I would also suggest indicating that the pickups change the environment. At first, I didn't realize the things I was collecting/interacting with added new objects to the environment. It took me a bit of wandering around the first area before I realized that the vine by the desk had appeared. Not sure if it was lighting the candle or collecting the plush that activated it.
Besides that, nice job on the game! I enjoyed the visuals and the concept has potential if you add more variety in puzzles and interactions between the day/night states.
Wow, well designed game. you can expand that for a bigger project!
GG 🔥🔥
THANK YOU! I had a few other people mention this too. I think I honestly might push it further since it seems like some people are interested which warms my heart to pieces! D:
