Nice implementation of the theme, but that staircase on level 3(was it?) really was my Nemesis! >_<
Fun coin flipping game, very unique take on the jam's spin theme. I really loved the jigglyness of the main menu too.
Beautiful interpretation of spin to win! The collision and physics of the coin is juicy. The platformer aspect with the sides of the coin also, genius. Great job, big fan!
The day/night mechanic being confined within the orientation of a single coin is a really neat mechanic! It is a bit RNG at times starting Level 2, but the theme is spin to win :)
The coin animation when you win is so cool too
also landed the coin on the side, what do I win:
Thank you very much! Yes, RNG is a factor, or hard learning of the physics.
If you land the coin on the side, there is an eclipse, where both day and night ghost platforms can be used, but I could not add more features to that. It was really hard to do that first, but when the platforms came in, it was easy to force the eclipse, so kind of thinking of getting rid of it...
Such a cool concept! Just flipping around the coin itself was really fun. The day and night idea is a really cool feature that, if further developed, could really produce some engaging gameplay. A cool feature to add might be the ability to flip again mid air as I found myself stuck on the day and night platforms with no real way to control if I landed correctly other than luck. I still had a ton of fun with this one. Good job!
Thank you!
Still today I load up the game just to play with the coin, I really love, how it works. For me it still feels a bit off, so if I'll work later on it, I'll make it's own physics, not the Unity based one.
Mid-air flip was in the pipeline, but did not have time to do it. I was thinking about right click to slow down time for 5 seconds, and during that one more flip can be done.
For the 3rd level a hint: if you land on the first night or day platform, from there it is easy to go up. You just need to have a small velocity flip to the middle of the next platform, with just enough height. With that the coin will turn alway only 2 times, and land on the same side as it was ;)
This is an interesting concept, but yeah, pretty frustrating. I can believe there's a way to influence which side the coin lands on, but for a "casual" player, any jump that is larger than a single flip is gonna end up feeling like, well, a coin flip. And once there are multiple platforms in a row, you have to win multiple coin flips in a row, too. Even without the flipping mechanic, I feel like aiming your jumps isn't quite easy, especially since you're pretty zoomed in the enitre time -- would love if the game zoomed more the stronger I aimed. Maybe this game would be more fun if you could spin the coin mid-air? Would obviously be less physically accurate, but eh. Might also be fine as a rage game, though, though that might also need a bit of a different style of level design.
Yes, a coinflip is a coin flip... you win you lose. You are right, the level where you have to perform 6 jumps in a row without a single miss is quite tricky, but I just wanted to show, what is possible in the current concept.
I was thinking about the camera mechanics too late, was not able to implement it, but thank you for this, definitely needs a try.
Regarding the flip in mid air - That was a concept, which I did not have the time to do. Left click slow time for a short period, and during that a second flip can be performed. With that it would not be that frustrating for sure and can give another mechanic to the game.
Thank you for the feedback, it is really helpful, and for sure, if I will work on this again in the future, these will be reconsidered :)
Puh, that is something u need to commit in :D
Fun idea, but definetly a game with high frustration potential xD
But well made^^
Thank you
I can see why you are saying this. The platforms which are working only day or night should be clearly understandable. There should have been more levels to make sure the people are getting comfortable with the physics, and how to flip the coin to know, which side will be landed. After that it is still not that easy with platforms which are far away. For me as well after 1 week of development to finish all levels took 20 minutes (and got frustrated myself :)).
I would say it is an issue of my level building more than the issue of the mechanics. If I touch this again, I'll make sure it will be easier, at least the first 5 levels ;)
I think the biggest frustration potential is that u have to hope, that u get the right coin size, if u (for example) land on a sunny platform. If the wrong side comes up, then u just fall down.
Not sure how that could be balanced better, but as player u don't have that much control about what is happening.
It's quite a challenge as dev. So i absolutely can see that this isn't that easy to polish.
But idea and mechanic are good :)
Fun idea for a platformer! Definitely potential to expand on this
Thank you very much! I'm already thinking about it. Maybe I'll pick it up a bit later, and make a full, clearer, better version ;)
Timeless design - simple but extremely fun and addictive. Great for a mobile game. My 6-yo son was hypnotized by this game and tried his best to beat level 4 ;)
I did not particularly enjoy when a platform disappeared from under you, but the concept is cute. I thought the music changing when it was night was a really fun and cool touch, but it sounds weird on the transition, I wonder if maybe an instrumentation change or something would've been a bit cleaner!
Thank you for the feedback :)
About the music, I wanted to have a really happy day theme, and a gloomy night theme with some tension with instrument changes, but same bpm, same melody... But I'm not a musician, and I wasted half a day trying to learn something, when I realized, that it is impossible. So I did what was the best for the jam: Downloaded a free music, and changed the pitch and volume during the night
But you are definitelly right, how you describe it and what was my intention as well could have worked better
Great as a rage bait game, wasn't a huge fan of making the right jump and having the platform disappear under me
I am flipping that darn coin for a week now, and yes... still some jumps are hard, but due to the trajectory predictor it can be calculated sometimes.
I just did not want to have too easy levels, then unfortunately I created really hard ones.Thank you for the feedback, if I come back to this idea, I'll go easier on the first levels at least ;)
I love games like this, really cute idea, very fun to play! Give the coin some character and we'll really be talking. Coiny the coin?
What about Nick, the nickel? :)
But thank you very much! I have another ongoing project, but maybe later I'll polish this one
Nick the nickel is great 😂I know what you mean about multiple projects, I've been so obsessed with my other project, when I told people I was entering a game jam I got some worried stares haha
I really like the level design and day / night mechanic. I really enjoy playing this. Good work!
Thank you very much for the feedback :)
I'm happy you enjoyed it
