Cool concept! But I had a hard time understanding when and where the yo-yo would go(-go). I'm not the best at platformers, so I'll count a lot of this as my own skill issues, but whenever I did get it to latch somewhere I wanted, it was nice to see it fly around. Also nice job on the sound design - simple, but effective.
If you continue tinkering with it, it would be neat to have an "aiming" option before you launch the yo-yo to see where you'll go(-go). I think that would have helped me to make progress once I got to the harder levels instead of just trying to rely on luck to dodge the spiky red lava walls and floors.
A nice entry though!
Yooooo! Very nice yo-yo-ing! Got a little stuck, as for some reason my input just would not keep the character still while aiming. Think it's probably more of an issue with my device than anything else. Nice introduction to the controls and game in general!
absolute cinema, might be my favourite game of the jam so far!
the gimmick was very nice, love me a grappling hook, even if it was a little jank around the corners.
the visuals were simple but passable, quite nice.
the audio and music fit very well, i enjoyed muchly.
And of course, this is business of most serious caliber.
amazing job!!
Ah that's high praise thanks so much!
I'll be doing my best to smooth out the jank a bit after the jam, but I'm glad the seriousness of this entry was satisfactory π
Very fun game, a nice creative use of the theme. It was too hard for me, I could not complete it...
Anyway, congratulations, great work!
Thanks so much, glad you had some fun :)
The game is deffo a bit too hard too early so I'll be smoothing out the difficulty a bit post-jam. Thanks for playing!!!
Really fun physics platformer! Love the aesthetic, minimalism, and audio design. Definitely some speedrun potential. Great use of the level design and backtracking with the different mechanical tuning. Some of the areas were quite difficult, maybe there was a technique I didn't figure out, but I was able to complete the game :)
Thanks so much, I loved your physics platformer too :)
There's some techniques that do make the game a bit easier (but aren't strictly necessary) that aren't tutorialized in the jam version. I think I'll add some more explainations for those post-jam, as well as slowing the physics down a bit to make it easier to do mid-air yoyo manouvers and stuff.
Also congrats on completing the game, it's pretty hard so thanks!!!
I like it! Fun game, great intro and way to introduce the controls. Enjoyed the minimal style - well done :)
Cool game! I liked the spin on the classic platformer setup. The yo-yo mechanics felt smooth and responsive, it took me some time to get used to how it works, but after that it was a lot of fun :)
great idea, ended up playing way longer than i wanted :D
wasn't able to get past this level tho
Damn you had to made me go back didn't you :) I love this new use of the animal well yoyo (at least for me it looked like it at first), It was at the end very different and super cool to use. Love the physics and the kinda puzzle part where I had to understand how to tackle a jump. Audio loop is lit, design is simple but I like it. Controls were snappy. Very good game good job !
A very quirky platformer that feels pretty dang smooth, Loved how clean the pixel art felt. I feel like a little extra tutorialization in some form might have helped a bit, I got stuck pretty early on personally!
Thanks for playing and rating!
Glad you liked the art, I'm not an artist so that's great to hear I did an okay job :) I'll deffo be adding some more tutorialization after the jam cuz there's a few techniques that make the game a bit easier which would be nice to demo to the player before expecting them to pick them up naturally.
I got stuck on one of the levels and couldn't continue ;-;
Not your fault imo, the game's a bit to hard π
Thanks for playing though, hope you had a bit of fun either way :)
I did
I loved this one a lot! The mechanic is a really interesting take on the classic grappling hook and made this feel pretty fresh. There were a few bugs with corners but nothing that made it unplayable. The visuals are simple but with nice colour choices. The yo-yo looks really cool! The difficulty curve is kind of wild but I had a great time.
Played through the whole thing and had a great time. Would love to see a full game of this.
Ah glad you had some fun, thanks for playing :)
Thanks for the feedback, I think beyond fixing up the physics (on the corners, etc...), the main thing I'll be focusing on in the post-jam build is the difficulty curve π I got a bit too good at the game while making it and didn't end up having time to playtest it so the curve is hella whacky lmao
Great job getting to the end btw that's no mean feat ;)
Awesome game! I love the simple yoyo mechanic and the constraint of not having a jump button is really cool! Though I find the levels a bit too hard on some parts of it, maybe an introduction on how I can utilize the yoyo on some parts would help(?). The aesthethics is simple but clean and the audio is present with music which is great! I would say its quite serious as well. Great work overall!
As a connoisseur of seriousness yourself, I'm glad to hear that the seriousness of this entry was satisfactory for you π
Thanks for the feedback, I'll deffo be working on the difficulty curve a good bit after the jam, which will include a bit more tutorialization for different techniques, etc. I also might slow the physics down a bit which I think could help :)
A really cool game mechanic! I felt like there were some moments where it felt frustratingly difficult but other then that I really liked it. Art was simplistic but in a good way, I liked the music too.
Thanks so much!
Yeah the main thing I'll be fixing in the post-jam build will be the difficulty I reckon cuz it is a bit frustrating at times atm
Fun game, with good music and design. The concept is really interesting. I would have liked to get a different mechanic when I got the golden yo-yo, like a second string or the ability to aim, but overall, itβs a great game
Thanks for playing and rating, hope you had some fun :)
Yeah right now the Golden Yoyo is just a stat upgrade that makes it move around the screen a bit faster, but that's a bit boring so I'd like to add something extra to it for the post-jam build. Second string is an interesting idea... thanks for the suggestion!
Really fun game!
Perhaps felt a little long, and could have done without redoing the game backwards.
I really liked the yoyo/grappling hook mechanics, it felt very satisfying. Flying around the levels became second nature fairly quickly (for the most part). The Golden Yoyo acts the same as the base yoyo, which could have been a nice "reward" on the backwards redo if the Golden Yoyo had some interesting new mechanic or something additional/better than the base yoyo.
Nice visuals and music.
Great job!
Hey hey thanks for playing and rating, glad you had a bit of fun :)
Tysm for the feedback, I do agree with you that it's a bit long (particularly for a jam game) and the difficulty spikes way too much in the middle. The Golden Yoyo actually moves around the screen twice as fast as the base yoyo, which is supposed to make the last bit of the game a bit harder (although you can now reach higher places). You're not the only one who didn't realise this though cuz it's only really communicated with some text above the Golden Yoyo before you pick it up.
For the post-jam build I'll be playing around with some ideas of what the Golden Yoyo could give the player because even if it was clearer that it's a speed "upgrade", that's a bit of a boring upgrade π
good potential for a rage game LOL
It's definitely possible hahaha, although I'll probs just tune down the difficulty a bit to make it a bit more of a smoother right post-jam :)
I got stuck on this level :(
Looks like the screenshot didn't upload correctly sorry!
If it's any consolation, the game is definitely too hard π if you wanna try again I can give you some tips on how to beat each screen :)
Very solid entry. Very creative moveset for a platformer, don't think I've seen anything quite like it before. Definitely has some nice potential for levels and I think you show that off pretty well. I do think it's a tad too hard to control and I would have probably enjoyed it more if it was a little more forgiving, but overall, not much to complain about here.
This game is a really unique spin on the theme! I like the pixel art visuals and sound effects as well as the main mechanic. Every level feels hard, but it does feel very good when completed. I did get stuck on one of the levels though (the one with spikes below). Even though I know I had to hook onto the bottom left wall, I couldn't do it in time. The background music also feels very jarring at times due to incorrect looping. Otherwise, this is a great game!
Sorry you got stuck but thanks so much for playing, glad you had some fun :)
Ngl, the music was added literally last minute so I will either be fixing the loop or replacing it with something better after the jam (as well as smoothing out the difficulty curve lol)
