Very cool spin on the typical roll the ball around game. Having to account for your lollipop's handle was an interesting twist. Also the fact it can be used to your advantage by grabbing things is enough to make it not annoying. The only thing is I wish it was clear whether your primary motive was to collect all the cheerios or get to the end, since some of the cheerios are too out of the way to be useful, but when it came to the race my bet time was 37.98s
Thanks for playing! Cheerios are only a fuel for the turbo boost and power glide. I didn't have time to design a better purpose and I added the time trial track on the last day. To have at least something. Time under 40 seconds is decent! I do plan to work on the game after the jam :)
Veeery serious and funny. Unique usage of the theme and looks very polished
THIS IS SO HARD *raging* I loved the game, best game in the jam!
Thank you for playing!
It was so much fun! I wish it were a little longer, but it has a lot of potential. I liked the detail of the pencils marking the path.
I want to work on the game after the jam and add much more stuff. Thanks for trying it out!
A nice template for a potential rage game. I think the friction could be increased a bit, it was hard to make any turns but I suppose that's the point. Nice work!
Thanks for the feedback. I tuned the friction and torque forces a lot and this was good enough for the game jam. I will improve it in the future!
Nice! I’ve done a 3D physics platformer rage game like this in a previous jam lol, so it was interesting to play one from someone else. The controls are expectedly difficult to maneuver the lolli, so you have to get creative with your movement. Well done
I have seen The Great Eggscape a couple of months ago and since then I wanted to make a game like that, but different, and I finally got an idea for another "weird-shaped" that could work :) Yours has much much better level design! I need to work on mine.
Oh, word?? That’s so heartwarming to hear. I’m astounded anyone’s played it let alone be inspired by it, so thanks for that ;w; yours has potential! Just keep at it. Some tighter controls and level design that makes use of the weird shape (instead of getting in the way) would go a long way ^^
I had so many great ideas in my head about the lollipop, but putting thoughts on the paper... is hard :D I wanted to have sliding rails, where the lollipop would hook with the stick on it and slide down, but the physics don't work like that. Thinking about it now, I should definitely fake it, like the power glide. The hardest part for me is still the art and world design. Transferring the wild thoughts from my head into a nice and working world is hard, but I am learning and hope to get better in these things too. I am also open to ideas for making a better use for the stick, because right now there are only some cheerios that are too high for normal jump and to collect them, the player must stop and balance with the stick up and jump. Maybe I can have some switches that would work like that, but this sounds weak to mee.
Thanks for the kind words and all the feedback!
This is incredible!! VERY creative! The visuals and audio were enticing. And the mechanics were really fun. I was expecting the lollipop to get stuck to something or over time, but either way well executed in a short timeframe.
Thank you for the feedback! I planned to have dirt sticking the lollipop, but there wasn't enough time. This is my first game jam and my time allocation was bad :/ There are at least "glue" areas, for testing stickiness and I want to work with that further.
Wow! For your first game jam, this is incredible! Congrats!!
Thanks! And congrats on your great result, your game is the only one on the first page I have seen and played during the jam!
I don't know how you came up with this idea, but it's really interesting! The concept is unique, and rolling around as a lollipop makes for a fun and memorable experience. I enjoyed the creative take on the theme.
Thank you for the feedback! The idea is an inspiration from my kids :) I am a developer, so the world and art barely make sense, but I would like to extend this into a full game. I need to learn Blender, and hopefully during the summer I will build a better track :)
Really interesting idea and great graphics (surprised at how smoothly it runs in browser!) but could definitely use some polish to release its own potential.
I like the idea of having an obstacle pinned to your own body, but I would really like to see smart usage of it to also get trickshots - like levering yourself to get really high or something. I also wish there was less startup momentum and inertia overall so it would be easier to be precise, might be personal preference but that would help a lot with the platforming as I spent more time fighting the controls and positioning rather than the level design.
Really cool project though and I'd love to see it get expanded.
Thank you for the feedback, it motivates me to work on the game after the jam!
For obstacles on stuck on the body, I am thinking right now just as another imbalance. Like sprinkles in hazardous shortcuts and there will be some way of getting rid of them, maybe by drifting. Can't think of a way to do trick shots with them, but trick shots are on my mind, but I haven't figured out how to add them. Maybe a special key for a flip or something? The only "trick shot" that is needed on the current track is to stand still and balance with the stick up and then jump to collect some of the cheerios.
Startup momentum is problem, the lollipop will start drifting with pure torque. The power glide, that is visible on the last screenshot, currently has I think good controls, where it disables torque. Maybe I could tweak this behaviour for very slow movement... Even I still have problems when standing still and trying to align with a ramp or bridge, to go through them. For these the trick for me is to not stop moving and when I am near a bridge or ramp, slightly off-side, I will jump from the side on it and finish the alignment while moving on them :) But precise movement while not moving fast enough is tedious :(
Thanks for playing and your feedback again, it is flooding my brain with ideas :)
Interesting idea. If you had a system where dirt got attached to the lollipop, the game could play like Katamari. It was a creative game nontheless.
Thank you! Like I mentioned in a comment below, I planned collecting dirt on the ground, to slow down, but making it a Katarami like game, that's a twist, instead of racing the track, players will collect the whole track :D
It took me a few to get the hang of balancing the lolli; speed is important! Really neat concept. I got most of the cheerios(?).
The game is challenging enough already but I had an idea while playing:
- it would be funny if the cereal stuck to the lolli, making it harder to control. The more cereal you have, the higher your score.
Thank you for the feedback! I was thinking about collecting dirt while on the ground, to slow the lollipop, but never had the time to do this. I will think about some points in the future. The cereals were a last minute addition as a way to collect fuel for the turbo boost, but counting them as points is a good idea too.
Rolling a lolli instead of just a ball is really cool! I would have loved for some background music to either calm the atmosphere or make me rage even more XD
Also (I dont think anyone else had this problem) but when I first loaded up your game it crashed my browser (Chrome)
Thanks for playing! I completely forgot to add some music and I think that some tunes, changing depending on the speed, will help a lot, with the rage :D
I never had a crash, nor in the desktop build, nor in the browser. But I had a random crash during loading another game (not sure if it was a Godot or Unity game). Maybe playing so many WebGL games in such a short time is hard for Chrome? Just guessing.
Ahh got point... I also had like 12 tabs open so maybe that was just on me XD
Tabs shouldn't be a problem, I have hundreds of them open on several desktops and all is running fine... But one loading Unity game and a tab will freeze :D WebGL is hard.
This is a unique game actually to spin an object with a weird center of gravity. I find it challenging, and I like it. I would give this one 5-stars too. Congratulations!
The lollipop hitting the floor sound effect was so satisfying, and the movement was fun. Some objectives in the future would be a nice touch, but rolling around as a lollipop was fun.
Thank you for the feedback! I really wanted to crack/break the lollipop on harder hits, but didn't have enough time for that. Hopefully in the future. I will collect and sort all the feedback after the jam and will decide what I will do next. Thanks again for playing.
It's so simple but compelling to play. The sound effects are really satisfying, especially going over pencils, and the lollipop vfx are nice. I'm glad you don't have a more clear objective because I might have been hooked!
Thank you!
The pencil SFX is a lucky accident and I never noticed it until you mentioned it! It is the same ground-hit sound, but when a rigid body is hit, I made it subtle.
I had so many plans for the world, some easter eggs etc., but I am no artist and just started learning game dev, so I am happy for what it is now. But I do plan to improve it over the summer. Thanks again for the feedback!
Wow! I really enjoyed this one. The concept is so cool, and it's very well made. The physics are really challenging, but I like rage games anyway.
Thank you for the feedback! I am little sad for the lack of content though. I am no artist, so building the "world" was the hardest part.
Hey I loved playing this so much! There is a fun amount of overlap between our games which I think is a lot of fun! Great job! I played the entire thing and got all the cheerios! That lollipop material! I would love to know the setup. I would love to chat design with you if you are interested :) Hit me up on Instagram or tictoc @bisonhatstudios
Thank you so much for playing my game! Yes, there is overlap between our games, yet they are so different :) I really like your game, and I have spent the most time on it :D I liked the coziness, so I was mainly exploring the city and I wanted to land on a balcony ;)
Thanks for collecting all the cheerios, even though there is no reward/indication of that. I did this solo and there was no time for more content :(
The lollipop is just a screen-space refraction with a normal map. I spent most of the jam time on the lollipop, both visuals and physics, I just can't gray box :( I am not on social networks, just on Reddit as TraditionalFocus7631, you can contact me there!
The SFX for this game is seriously incredible; I wanted to break the lollipop so bad! I think it should have more acceleration/control so turning around isn't such a drag, but the physics are solid.
Thank you for the feedback! Breaking the lollipop in on my TODO list. This is my first game jam and I did it solo, so my time allocation was all over the place and there was no time left for that :(
For the SFX, I did only the rolling sound and the rest is from FilmCow. Check their huge free SFX libraries.
More acceleration was causing too much drifting The main problem with turning around is the stick. It's just not possible to turn as fast as a sphere... I have spent too much time with this, so I got used to it, but while standing still one can jump and turn the stick midair. It's tricky, but doable. And then there is the power glide, which works similar to the rocket in Super Mario Kart.
I want to tune the controls and improve the game in the future, so I am very thankful for all the feedback!
This is such a great concept. The physics are challenging. But the graphics, how did you get it to look so delicious?
Thank you! The graphics are free assets. I made just the rolling sound and the lollipop, and spent too much time on its material :D It was a lot of tweaking and it is visible on the rest of the game :/
This is really creative, I honestly feel like you have a diamond in the rough here, for it being your first game you got the lollipop rolling and the parkour working
With more polish this might blow up on youtube or twitch, give it a try, people love these kinds of games, make it vertical so you lose progress and they call it a "rage game"
Thank you for the feedback! This is my second game actually (check the other itch demo), but my first game jam :)
My original idea was a lollipop rolling rage game, like Egging On, including breaking the candy on hard hits :D But I couldn't build a meaningful map in a week. I am a developer, so I spent too much time in code during the week, tweaking the physics controls mainly. So the controls feel fine to me (they are not perfect by any mean, just good enough). I will probably make them a bit faster, but the candy will drift much more. Also the turbo boost is fine (I think :)) and the power glide is real fun, but is mostly a gimmick on this incomplete map.
The biggest problem for me is the verticality of the map, I don't want it be just a "go up", but I want some semi-realistic environment. So I did this "time trial track" instead. I made the track in the last day, so there is at least something to do.
I hope to collect some more feedback and update the game during the summer! We will see. Thanks again for the feedback!
