Very well put together! I love the theme, and the simple mechanics come together nicely to give a sense of tension. I like the audio cues and morse code mechanics especially. It's definitely challenging; it took me two tries to finish the first level. Avoiding torpedoes felt the most challenging, and also kind of the least interesting, if I'm honest. It didn't feel like there way any rhyme or reason to the angle you need to hit to avoid them, so it came down to flinging the steering wheel around until the line turned green. It works, but for the main mechanic it felt a little flat. But you've nailed putting together an atmosphere with simple mechanics and assets. Simulators are typically get complex and hard to get into, and you've shown that it doesn't need to be. My hat is off to you!

Thank you!
I have a little time, so I can break down my thoughts on the u-boat mechanic.

I did initially want to make the torpedo launching at the ship hitbox more accurate (i.e. moved as the ship moved forward), but with the additional mechanics that use up the player's concentration, I worried having to do mental math to figure out where a torpedo would actually travel would be too taxing (I later would realize that it would be hell to code as well). Another part of it is that steering is the only mechanic in the game that has two ways to damage the ship (going out of bounds insta-death and torpedo hit), and at higher difficulties, the torpedoes begin forcing the player to zig-zag (which is more historically accurate lol), adding additional stress that might take things too far.
As a result, I tried to keep the torpedo mechanic as simple as possible, but I'm afraid I couldn't get things exactly as I wanted it to, so apologies for that. I recently sent out a new version with lower difficulties too, so hopefully that helped a little.
Thank you as well for your comments on audio and atmosphere! I'm very surprised audio was my highest placement (in a way I feel it should be lower in respect to all the games in the jam with awesome audio!), but I'm glad dedicating a significant amount of time solely on audio and building the dread of being in what was a slow, defenseless, sometimes poorly built (19 Liberty ships straight up split in half from existing) vessel, panned out well in the end.
Wow this is such a great game! Really challenging, but very good. Maybe if between actions there was a little more time it would've been more managable. So my only complaint is the difficulty. Really well polished, truly a hidden gem :D
Whoa, what a cool game! The concept is fantastic, and I love that I couldn't see anything and had to use the sonar (or sounds) to detect things and remember to stay on target with the map. Really awesome stuff!
If you continue to tinker with it, the tutorial said the map was M, but in the game screen it was different (S I think?), so I'd take a look at that. I wouldn't hate also having the map on M, even if you don't list out all of the controls in the game screen (since there's a lot to focus on already). Also, while I love that sound design is involved, the high-pitched birds and chirps and tones are a bit hard on my ears, so I really couldn't use them as intended. If possible it would be great if they could be changed to gentler sounds. Even turning my browser volume down, it barely took any playtime for the sounds to just be too much for me.
I'm putting this one on my "replay" list to see if I can make some more progress and figure out more of the controls. I'm also going to send the link to my brother - I think he'd really love to check it out.
Really cool stuff - thanks for encouraging me to check it out!
Thank you! (I can't believe I messed up the tutorial like that 😭)
I'll absolutely add key binding after this, thank you for the idea! Apologies on the sound front, the audio gets funky on different computers (and especially through playing on web), I'll most likely go in and lower sonar pings and add more volume sliders in the settings. Thanks again for all your thoughts!
Yeah, I've adjusted the sonar ping to be softer too (extra options are there in case I missed anything else, especially since some louder sounds like the flak and hit sfx aren't fully necessary to play)
I've uploaded the new version now (with some added things, now the game can properly save)! Feel free to let me know if you encounter anything that might hinder your experience :)
This is just about my favorite game of the whole jam, I really like these sort of multitasking games and this does that brilliantly. I worry it might be too challenging, especially initially it's a lot of information all at once. Really, really like this overall though great stuff!
Everything is so good in this game! The art, the audio, the concept, the mechanics, everything works incredibly well together. Amazing job, very well done, I'm really impressed!
This is the most serious game i have yet seen in this jam. The game feels so polished. It felt genuinely scary while playing and gave jumpscares when the ship got hit. Sometimes it feels too hard to coordinate all the sides of the game though. Idk how, but rework on controls could make this game so much better. For example maybe let the player control the morse codes through mouse, trigger the panel when the cursor is at the bottom of the screen like FNAF2 mechanics.
Thank you! My intention with the morse code being done through the spacebar was to allow the player to do it anywhere (similar to being able to close doors while in cams) instead of needing to always open up the morse code panel; however I absolutely did not communicate this to the player so I apologize!
Really great game!!! I loved the audio, it was sooo good!!! The game is with simple mechanics but still so challenging!! Great job!!!
Great job. I lost a lot of good men, but I went down with the ship. Great art, mechanics audio and gameplay, congrats!
Amazing! one of my favourites tbh. So simple but yet so good!
Very polished game! I love the art style, especially the black and white style of the title screen UI and cover image.
The gameplay is really interesting, and I love how it's getting progressively more difficult as more things unlock.
At first, it took me four attempts to beat the first level, because there are two things I failed to realize:
1. You need to do multiple full turns on the wheel in order to turn the ship quicker (I was thinking of it more as a car wheel)
2. In the sonar, you need to turn your ship nearly parallel to the direction that the torpedoes are coming in. I was really confused at first because I thought I could drive the boat out of the trajectories of the tropedoes.
Overall, I really like this game! It feels very complete and enjoyable! Should've been seen and rated by more people!
Thank you! Perhaps the tutorial paper needs some tuning, thanks for the feedback! I appreciate the comment of progressive difficulty, it was a big goal of mine to both ease in mechanics without overwhelming the player too much while maintaining stress and tension as the player got better at the game.
THIS IS SO GOOD?? I love this entry a lot!!
Enjoyment: 5/5
I admit I had a little trouble understanding how everything worked at first, but once you get the hang of it this is actually really well put together! And this is coming from someone who's not incredibly suited for FNAF-like gameplay, yet I still enjoyed playing through this :)
Creativty and Theme: 5/5
The spinning is well implemented, I especially love how stirring the wheel has "drift" to it, making it feel more realistic and giving an higher challenge in dodging the torpedos. The game is also overall very creative in its theming, loved it.
Visuals: 5/5
The visuals are incredibly well done, looking somewhat simple but in a kind of perfect way. Everything looks pretty clean and complete.
Audio: 4/5
My only complaint with the audio is that the ping sound might be a little too loud, that's about it. Loved everything else.
Seriousness: 5/5
Ship carrying with your life on the line as you get assaulted by all sort of enemies is definetly pretty serious business.
FINAL RATING: 4.5/5
Everything is extremely well polished and the gameplay is fun and interesting! The audio was the only issue, but even then, that's a very minor nitpick. I loved playing through this and I encourage others to also give it a shot! :)
Thank you, and thank you for spending the time on such detailed feedback!! I'm glad you were still able to enjoy it with all its FNAF dna, I tried to aim close but not too close with unique ideas and mechanics. Apologies on the sonar sound, I'll def come back to tune it later! There was also meant to be reverb to muffle the game sounds but unfortunately technical issues with Godot came up at the last second. I appreciate the comment on visuals too, I initially wanted a style as seen in the location scenes but realized I was one person, so knowing its still achieved its goal is great news. Thank you!
This was so good!! It was frantic and chaotic and really intense. The only thing I can really criticize is that I think the sonar ping sound was clipping a bit, and maybe it got a bit too difficult by the end (I wasn't able to finish it, but I got to the fourth voyage which I think is the last?). It was incredibly satisfying to get a hang of things and learn to multitask. At first I didn't think course correction would play that much of a role but I quickly learned how important it is to constantly manage it between u-boat attacks. The visuals were great, the audio was great, it had no music but I think it's better without it. So much fun!!
That is EXACTLY what I hoped players would feel, thank you so much!!
There is a fifth final voyage (a reference to a certain Freddy's five nights) with increased difficulty, and commentary at the end about the sacrifices of the merchant marine, but I may have gotten too used to the difficulty, thats mb! I added a tips section to the description in your honor. Thank you again!
I played the game for a bit, and I found it enjoyable and exciting. I personally enjoy challenging tasks, so I appreciated the level of difficulty and the engaging gameplay. The theme of the jam was interpreted really well and reflected in the project in a meaningful way. Overall, a very solid entry - great work!
