Really impressive game, The references to the games are so cool, like some one said the tetris section was challenging tho  but iverall amazing game.

If you have time, heres my game: /jam/godot-wild-jam-95/rate/4796157

Super creative way to reference other retro games! I felt like the tetris section was a bit challenging - I kept having to die and reset my blocks. Really liked the pac man section being turned into a wall jumping level with unique lighting. And the platforming felt satisfying overall. Nice work!

Very cool!

The graphics are very nice, but I think the mario style bricks kinda clash visually with everytnig else. Maybe if they were also hand drawn and more soft looking?

You can sometimes make a doulbe or a triple jump? It involves spamming space quickly and never gets you any higher than a one long jump so it's not a big problem, but still a little weird.

I had some problems with getting into sideways in the pac man maze while wall jumping, I think you should be alble to change direction sooner after wall jumping to make this easier or maybe not be able to change direction at all to encourage players to find other solutions.

I really liked the creative use of mario pipes and the whole world orientation changing was cool, but having through that again got a little tedious. Maybe You could make another pipe that that just moves the player back to the "hub(?)"

The space invaders minigame had to be my favourite, but the pac man maze was also pretty fun and amost turned into a horror game haha.

Pretty fun little game. Overall good job!

Ack yea the pipe section level was originally designed with koopas in mind (same with the path to tetris) to make it more interesting but ran outa time to add them (will put them in after jam though). And thanks for the Interesting notes on the character controller. I'll think about that when messing around with the wall jump variables, I haven't made a character controller in godot yet so I was using the is_on_floor() I'll have to dig into how it works more to see why you can double sometimes I noticed that too. I was doing my own check in Unity that always worked so I will probably need to setup a godot one too

Very cool entry! I love the way you mixed different games into a platformer. The character animations and controls feel very nice as well.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! I end up emulating the hollow knight style of platformer character controller most of the time because I find it the most satisfying, probably need to branch out lol. Our artist killed it with the character art.

I added this to my favorite's list for this jam and am excited to return to it to check it out further. While I didn't enjoy the overworld and the wonky wall-sliding toooo much I really really loved the interpretation of classic games as separate levels. Pacman was super intense. thank you so much for the upload!

Developer

Thanks for playing and the kind words. I did the character controller and I love to experiment with different ways to do it. Which part of the wall sliding felt off to you? Was it the wall jumping or something specific with the slide itself?

What an unusual take on NES games—I love it!

I'm usually not into parody games or games that rely heavily on references, but the Tetris blocks used for climbing and the pipes that rotate the world were really clever ideas. The Pac-Man section was a bit tough at first, but then I remembered I could wall jump, and everything clicked. Great job!

I think the core concept has a lot of potential on its own if you move far enough away from the direct references and let it become its own unique world.

The tetris platformer section is inspired, very cool

I liked the artstyle and the tetris mini game, although no way to rotate the pieces and never could complete a row given the pieces shown.

I really loved this, good work incorporating the jam theme. I think the Tetris section was my favorite.

The Pac-Man section was cool, but I found that the loss of visibility made it kind of difficult to tell if a jump/fall was safe or if there was a ghost nearby. Additionally, it would be good if the mushroom reset back to its initial position if you die with it during the second part when looking for the portal.

I also really liked the general artwork, music, and movement, and the platforming felt pretty good to control in general; good work.

the animations and art are top notch and the tetris stage was super cool

Very fun use of the theme! The menu was very creative. The pacman section was a bit hard to go throuh, but after I got the 1000 points the exit was easy to find. The mudballs from the final fight felt a little out of nowhere, but that's about it. Really loved it!

Really really fun and creative game, and a great homage to all of the classics (the pac-man section in particular was brilliant). The only feedback I had was that the game softlocked once when I got caught by a ghost while holding onto the mushroom in the room itself!

Satisfied sniping koopa at the end. That dark packman was confusing. Ran round and bounced all over the place.

Great game that fits the theme perfectly! Really like the Tetris section!

One of the retro games of all time. Loved the theme and vibe. My pea brain almost gave out on the tetris section but pulled through.

Really great game, good work you all!! Really fluid character movement,  great art and great concept! =)

Developer

thank you so much for playing! i was the sprite animator:)

Great art style and fun twists! Super creative game, and I loved the squashing of the animations, felt very smooth to jump around. I also loved that main menu, though I was a bit confused at first haha

Got softlocked on the final section I think, portal appeared after killing all the baddies with the bouncy green mushroom but I couldnt enter, other than that 10/10

Developer(+1)

Oh you probably weren't holding the mushroom guy, I made it so you needed to be holding the item to come back.
I intended to put in an indicator when you tried to go in without him but I ran out of time, my bad :(

I'm glad you enjoyed the game otherwise though! Thanks for playing ^.^

I spent so long just jumping to see if my eyes were tricking me and there was a bit of squash also tetris mechanic was really really fun

Submitted

also UI was really fun

Developer

Nobody ever complains about a little bit of squash in an animation ;)

Thanks for playing ^.^
