Amazing interpretation on the theme and perfectly executed too! The art style is beautiful and it reminds me of Disco Elysium in the best ways possible haha. Possibly my favorite entry in the entire jam, 5 stars all around!
My only gripe (and it's one hell of a nitpick) is that I wish the scrolling text would have each letter "fixed" in place as they appear. The main appeal of a scrolling text is that the reader is able to start reading the moment the text starts scrolling in without having to wait for it to finish. But yeah, that is a gigantic nitpick on this amazing game!
I very much appreciate having the game let us edit our guess on each symbol's meaning as they appear in-dialogue (and even moreso that you let us press Tab to switch between symbols within the same dialogue box haha).
thank you so much!!
disco elysium definitely was a big inspiration when it comes to the game's atmosphere, so you're spot-on on that one! ;p
the scrolling text is definitely something that a lot of people found weird or disorienting, but we just didn't have time to fix it as it wasn't exactly a game-breaking issue.
we're happy you liked the game so much!!
Such a clever take on the theme, and such a good idea to do this in a jam with the visual novel style. Absolutely loved it, a bit sad that not all the symbols are useful to beat the game, and I got a bit confused by the fact I couldn't confirm the 5 and 4 symbol because I accidentally skipped when Zoran told about "4" then I was not sure the other one was "5" since we can't go back to making him say "4" when there is 4 persons x3. It would be such a good game to expand and add more story to it. Not to mention that art and audio are excellent too. Really loved it, stunning work for 10 days!
thank you so much!!
yeah, unfortunately, we weren't able to implement all the symbols and words into the game due to time restraints, which is a shame because we had quite a fun idea for some of them :(
and as for the people appearing, you're right, there's no way to trigger the dialogue again which might be a bit confusing, thankfully, we managed to add dialogue history to the game so at least it can be checked there, but if you forget about it then it can be a bit rough.
glad you enjoyed the game anyway!!
OMG you are right I completely forgot about the history, that's pretty much my bad here it was pretty clear there was one xD
⚪ Koda) Took us two tries but omg this is very neat! Chants of Sennaar has been on our wish list and we.. gosh, we were very invested in it. Panicking as we figured out what Zoran was trying to tell us and trying to figure out everything with out inattentive brain to figure out the context.
Wish we had more time to just, explore though.
Music and art direction is also good. Gameplay suffers from the usual investigative game pitfall of "I don't know what to click so I'm gonna spam click everything" kinda thing. We don't usually like to resort to that but we don't really know how to address it either.
Personal favourite. Well done.
thank you!!
we're glad to hear that you got invested in the game, tried again after losing and managed to succeed on your second try!!
we planned to art some sort of highlight when mousing over interactable objects to make it a bit less of a guesswork on the player's side, but sadly we ran out of time and had to scrap the idea, so yeah, first playthrough might be bit spam click-heavy.
still, we're suuuper happy that you consider our game your personal favorite!! thank you once again!!! <3
Loved the Chants of Sennaar-styled gameplay! Always satisfying to see those puzzle pieces click together
thanks!! glad you enjoyed! it's definitely been satisfying watching it click for playtesters and streamers, so we're happy to hear it's also been satisfying for you as a player :D
Feeling kind of mind blown by the quality of this one, the art is spectacular! I like the idea of decoding symbols based on context, not something I've seen in a game before. Just barely managed to finish with two minutes left on the clock.
thanks a lot!!
there's actually a few games we took some inspiration from - namely Chants of Sennaar, Homicipher and 7 Days To End With You, which all require you to decode a language based on context clues, but each with a different flavor. and we think our game does it in its own, original way, too, but if you liked it you might wanna check them out!!
the fact that you barely managed to finish it means we probably set the timer right, then ;p
Cool game with eye candy art! I do love some language translating type of puzzle but I was stuck for sure on what Zoran is trying to describe to me, I was struggling to understand the real meanings for the puzzle and I think I wouldn't finish the game without my friend point out on something I didn't think of. I could suggest something like "gestures" to make it more readable on what it means if you get me.
It's a pretty cool game still and I wish I could hangout with Zoran more x) great work team ^^
thank you!! we actually did think about adding some gestures and such, but sadly didn't have enough time to do that. that definitely would have helped with teaching some of the words to the player, but we're glad you managed to finish it regardless.
and we're sure Zoran would like to hangout with you some more too!!
Ooooh I really like this one. I'm on my second attempt and I'm starting to figure it out. I feel like I've got the answer...but its not quite right. Still missing a few words - but I think I have the important one solved??? Trickyyyy
But yeah super well done.I appreciate that you can just type above the word in the text window. I think my only complaint is how the text animates in. Otherwise it's a lovely presentation and art style.
thank you!! we're glad you enjoyed the game even before managing to fully figure it out! and we appreciate the kind words :D
btw have you managed to complete the game yet?? i know that in these kinda games you can get to an incorrect conclusion early on and it can really confuse you later, so hopefully you got through it, and if not and you feel like you're truly stuck we could send you some hints if you want.
Just beat it! I took photos of all my notes and tried again. I realised I'd overlooked one character and slightly misinterpreted another but was basically on the right track. Thanks for a rad game!
i like <3
thank you!!
This is my kind of game. Absolutely in love with it. There’s something magical about learning about another character’s day-to-day life, so this game feels immersive on another level, like actual real life culture shock. I only wish there was MORE! Stellar job folks. 5 stars everywhere.
waoww thank you so much!! we're happy that our game managed to make you feel that immersed! :o
it's an interesting perspective too - like an actual culture shock. makes sense - not only is it a completely foreign world, but you don't understand a thing!!
once again, thank you for the kind words!! <3
OOOOOOOHHHHH. this is VERY good. took me a few replays to get the situation properly sorted. maybe i was a bit slow, but i was happy to spend the time and puzzle it out! and i ended up scribbling on a bit of paper which is when you know a game is really good, right?
really nicely balanced, great art and sound design as well. very nice execution in general. great job ⭐
thank you for the comment!! you taking notes on paper is probably the highest form of praise, because it meant that the game was both engaging and difficult enough to force you to do that! :D
and don't worry, you're not slow, it's the kinda game where if you miss some vital stuff, you kinda stumble around. for some people it was easy to complete it on their first playthrough, and for others it took quite a few tries. it just depends on which things you miss and which things you notice, so everyone has a different experience!!
ohh i really love the atmosphere, Art, and the music ambient
i got really lost after a while tho. i dont know where to get more clue/where to click, i sadly have to call it after 6 retries, all i know[redacted] and [redacted] is probably one of the right clue, the rest im not so sure hehe
great work you guys!
hey, first of all, thank you for the review! we're glad you enjoyed the atmosphere created by the art and audio! and yeah, if you get lost in the game it's kinda hard to figure out what's going on because we didn't really have time to implement any additional ways to get the solution.
p.s. could you please edit out the clues from the comment? someone might read this before playing the game and get slightly spoiled ^^
ooppppssss im terribly sorry about that!!!
sorryyyy
it's okii, thanks for editing the comment
THIS IS SO COOL!!! the whole style is so dystopian. I loved every second of it!! If this was a full game, I would LOVE to play it... it was criminal to end it like that ;o
thank uuuu!! we had many more ideas for stuff to add to the game, but we had to trim it down to fit within the jam's time limit. happy to hear that what we managed to make still ended up being this enjoyable!!
:O
I like the idea its so unexpected and I really enjoyed playing it and the art ,I was looking at every drawing and I was just shocked
You really done such a grate work 👏:3
thank you for the kind words!! we're glad you liked the idea!
