Played this one post-jam. Absolutely loved the concept of this one, super fun! The art direction is also very good - simplistic, but communicates everything so clearly while also having a distinct feel to it. Well done!

This game has a great vibe, the art, music, and gameplay go together great and the game is really polished. I love the visuals of the strong shadows, and the strong blocks of color remind me of Alto's adventure. The only thing I would say is that the camera does seem to move too much/follow the player too closely, but that's also definitely subjective.

This is a strong classic platformer, with well-designed levels that teach the mechanics and ramp up in difficulty well as you go on. I admire the polish on this submission. It feels like you set an appropriate scope for the game and fleshed it out completely, and I definitely admire that skill! Everything here is very polished, great work!

Developer

Thank you kungfu, Really appreciate the feedback and kind words.
I did try my best to keep myself in check and not succumb to scope creep but there is still a long list of things I would have liked to get to such as spending more time tuning the camera movement and character controller.

This game was very fun. I loved the vibe and the story bits are nice. Only issue I had was that for some reason level 5 and on didn't show the collectables collected and as clickable even though I played through them, but that's a minor bug. Great job :D

Developer

Hey Toaster!
Thanks for playing. Unfortunately, the level select bug was spotted a moment too late when I uploaded. I've since fixed it though and will be updating the build when voting ends.

Genuinely love everything about the game, especially the humour and art style!

Also, did you make the music yourself? It is a banger!

Developer

Wow, thanks so much for the kind feedback.
I did make the music myself!
It's inspired by the Swan Lake song they used as Dracula's theme in the 1931 Dracula movie but with some more retro game soundtrack vibes and a didgeridoo for good measure ; )

Okay this one was fun!

Down Under - Australia + Count Down - Vampire, and of course timers. I think the general vibe and aesthetic I liked, the only thing that felt off is the camera as it was notable while at level 6, where I had to get back to the platform to attempt the collectable and the camera really gets disorienting.

The music was really nice, feels like desert lmao, and the kengaroo (the ken is in his eyes), is so funny. The difficulty curve and the platforming is well made, with regions of cover and thinking through. The level 5 collectable was so cool and had to get back up again w/o losing time was a nice trade off. The death messages were funny (sunscreen yo), and the art especially at the end was so enjoyable.

Overall, thank you for submitting to the game jam!

Thanks for playing, Someone's Shadow. You're far too kind. Thank you for the feedback about the camera too, it's definitely something I would like to improve if I take this project any further (I have a bug fix update coming when voting is over though so maybe I could try and make some adjustment to the camera there.

Great vibe and love the great idea! Music is also pretty enjoying.

Developer(+1)

Thank you Blau:P. I appreciate you taking the time to play. I'm pretty proud of the music so glad you liked it : )

Classic platform game with really funny premise and settings. The "Cooked" game over message always makes me laugh and good job with the music.

Developer

Thank you! haha I probably spent more time than I should have trying to think of different game over messages so happy to see it wasn't necessarily time wasted :)

Classic platformer action. The sun damage was a pretty unique mechanic. Did you make the music yourself? Cool vibe!

Developer

Hey Wudda, thanks for playing.
Yeah, I made all the music during the jam too.

Dracula is very upset from me

Developer(+1)

Dracula can be like that some times

😂😂

Damn, Kengaroo had me in stitches!

Really makes you wonder why Dracula would decide to go to Australia of all places XD

Developer

I like to think that he was on holiday, had a few too many and woke up in the outback. We've all been there, right? right? guys?

Great game!

Developer

Thank you!

That was fun lol, I liked the comic-like panels

Cool visuals and sunlight mechanics, although speed is a bit too fast.

Submitted(+1)

Very fun concept! I would've loved if the square had a face with a pair of little fangs just to make it more Vampire like lol

Submitted(+1)

Why does Dracula live in one of the sunniest places on Earth? Is he stupid? (Fun game though!)

Developer

Erm...He's on holiday? I dunno.
Thanks for playing : )

I love the shine of the visuals, which reminds me a lot of node buster.

The game itself was also very fun to play, although I wish it would've been a little harder.

Overall, a great entry at that.

Developer

Hello Trust! Thanks for the positive feedback.
It definitely seems like people want more of a challenge. During testing my players were saying it was a bit difficult so maybe I over corrected. Still, happy I managed to get something finished at least haha

Very creative game! I mostly liked the visuals, that were simple, but with all those effects and right color palette looked extremely polished. The gameplay was smooth. I cant say anything negative about this game :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you Simon! That's truly kind of you to say.
Seems like my choice of Atari style visuals for the gameplay has been a bit hit or miss with players so it's nice to hear that you enjoyed them.

Love it, thought the story was gold. The art's also pretty amazing in those scenes too, would have loved to see character sprites instead of boxes for the levels though.

I thought overall gameplay was good but some areas of improvement for consideration:

  • I thought level 5 was much easier compared to level 4
  • Level 4 taught me that there is a death zone if we fall but this fall risk doesn't appear prominently in the later levels so it didn't feel too much like a teaching moment to me.
  • Kangaroo in the final stage felt more like an obstacle than boss. Would have loved if the final stage tested your platforming skills by having you dodge/jump/etc. around the Kangaroo instead.
  • Scoring mechanic worked well but I didn't feel incentivised to collect the extra white dots, maybe if the white dots unlocked a certain level/cosmetic it'd be pretty neat. Or if the dots served as bullets you can use against the Kangaroo to speed up the level.

Overall, I really enjoyed it! Great game!!

Hey Cynthistic!
Thanks for all the feedback, some nice ideas in there. If I return to this project in the future I'll definitely keep those suggestions in mind.
