Lovely game honestly. Really underrated. Concept is creative, game is fun, audio, narrative and art create a great story together. Absolute achievement for 4 days of work.

Since every good review needs feedback, I would say that gameplay is a little slow compared to the introduction of mechanics in the game. You can spread out mechanics, add more, or just shorten the loop so it's maybe 7 minutes instead of 10.

Still an absolute banger of a game, one of the favorites I had the pleasure to rate. Great job!

Developer

I completely agree with you.
After submitting and testing a little more 10 minutes felt more and more like a slog. I respect that you were bold enough to offer feedback and I accept the criticism with open arms!

Afterall... if you're right you're right.
Thank you for playing and for enjoying it so much in spite of it's flaws! :D

Submitted(+1)

Haha no worries, it was really the only flaw I could think of. Fantastic game overall, really enjoyed it. Give yourself a pat on the back, it's well deserved.

(p.s. the other comment mentioning the willow, it's because the willow effect is mislabeled as strobe, there's two strobes.)

Developer

*self back pat received!

Our artist had limited time. in fact once I wrapped up the music and the voice acting I helped with some of the drawing (i.e. the game cover art and the ending cutscene). the Willow button was low on my list so we opted to not worry about it. we definitely picked our battles on this one.
I scrapped ideas like the clock breaking, and some buttons flying off the control board and you gotta put them back. all sorts of stuff. I only mentioned half my ideas to the team. good thing too... cause... scope creep would've gotten us into trouble. lol

Submitted

ahhh yeah the overscope demons. Happens to everyone in jams lol. Just wanted to point it out in case you missed it. But that's a ton of ideas for a game about fireworks, if you do end up working on them later this would be insane

What a creative game! The wholesome vibes were great, the effects were top-notch, and the atmosphere was fantastic! A tad easy, but I'm glad I clicked on this one.

Developer

I'm glad I got a review from a game developer named "Frog Squad Games"... it's an honor. thank you for playing!

Submitted

No problem haha. We're in desperate need of reviews as well so if you wouldn't mind checking our entry out for 5 or so minutes that would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are one of two games I've put 5s across the board. The radio guy is hilarious.

I think one effect is missing: willow. The crowd was requesting it but I didn't see it in my arsenal. I'd love to hear more of the story behind the characters.

I will say I didn't know I had to click the color to lock in a rocket for effect requests. That was pretty much an accident.

Say hi to Steve for me!

EDIT:

Oh, the time in the top right might make the 10 second countdown from the radio redundant because you can just count on the corner clock.

Developer

I'm so happy to hear that! thank you for playing!

Playing Walker (radio guy) was a blast. (odd, fun fact: I had a dry erase marker in my mouth as I was doing the voices.)
If i were to expand the story, I'd want the $ goal to be bigger and Walker would inevitably pay Steve's hospital bills instead of saving the business... and he'd have just enough left over to have one more show. (justifying a 2nd level)

If this proof of concept goes over well I'd like for the timer to be a visible clock and it would inevitably break as well.
but then again... I could probably improve more as a designer if I moved onto the next idea.

I really loved this game, I enjoyed it. Took me 3 times to get the countdown part. But I loved it! Great work!

Developer

Thank you for playing! :D

Love / miss me some good fireworks displays. Great job! The piano at the end was beautiful

Developer(+1)

thank you! I improvised for like 20 minutes and picked my favorite moment.

Submitted(+1)

Very cool game! I wish i had realized before the final launch that i could have used the clock in the top left to help with the countdowns but i had a lot of fun!

Developer

Thank you! The clock was subject to be broken if we had another week. I wanted everything to eventually break and needing to be fixed mid-launch.

Developer

but that didn't become clear until day 3 so I left it alone. I had a separate page of notes for what to add if people liked this concept. :)

Submitted

Very fun to make number go up, wish there was a "You win!" screen but just shooting off fireworks is fun enough.

The tutorial is a lot of fun! Voice acting is really professional sounding. The fireworks look awesome!

Submitted(+1)

This was so good! The cinema at the end ✋😌🤚 Really enjoyed exploring the different fireworks. Great work!

Developer

thank you! that tear did a lot of heavy lifting. lo

Me personally, I am very good at keeping time, so I think adding more than just the countdown cutting out would make it more difficult. Multiple times I only got the first two numbers and never once did I not get perfect.

Developer

The issue of it being too easy was brought up, for sure!

AH! I agree with you. There's a layer of the game we didn't get to add. You in particular might have liked those features. In addition to keeping time, I wanted to have 10 seconds to flip safety switches and all sorts of "protocol" buttons before the ignition could take place. for the jam I wanted a single safety switch, and if people like the proof of concept add a bunch of other things that kept breaking right at the last second.

and then the economy is way too generous. and not as many opportunities to be punishing.
Thank you for playing and thank you for the honest feedback!! always appreciated.

Fun game, liked the countdown cutting out progressively more towards the end of the night. I didn't feel particularly cash-strapped at any point so towards the end I just added every single colour with all the different shell types to satisfy any possible audience requests - maybe some anti-requests like "No more red" would add more strategy?

Developer(+1)

ah! that's a great idea.
our economy is connected to the audience size so maybe if a request fails a firework launches into the crowd.

Submitted(+1)

Voice acting was hilarious! Really great idea for a game too, well executed as well. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! It makes me happy when people enjoy my v/a work!

Submitted(+2)

Loved the voice acting and the narrative! Trying to satisfy the crowd requests and watch them go "yay!" was super fun and the idea of not hearing the full countdown because of interference - soo good. A solid entry!

Developer

Thank you!!! :D
I have a few ideas to polish the narrative a little more, but we'll see how voting turns out.

Submitted(+2)

Wow, great artwork and style! I love how the virtual audience 'reacts' to the firework and 'requests' colors. Really polished, congrats!

Thanks so much!

Developer

that was my favorite bit, too. Thank you for playing! :)

The voice acting and ending are incredibly well done and the core gameplay, although simple, works really well! I might play this again after the jam due to how much I enjoyed it.

Developer

Thank you so much! :D
if you do please let me know if you have any additional feedback.

Submitted(+1)

This deserves to win.  The voice acting was awesome!

Developer(+1)

you're too kind. thank you!

Submitted(+1)

Wow, wasn’t expecting that beautiful ending! Nice work on the voice acting too. Although sometimes it can be too much present, overall it adds a strong identity to the game. And although the mechanic is simple, choosing between different kind of fireworks makes it rewarding.^^Well done!

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed the ending. :)
thanks for playing!
