How does your game fit the theme?
A polite gunslinger always counts down to give the bandit a fair shot. As well as narratively, I wanted the countdown to be a good thing you were looking forward to. It offers respite, and advancement. A game where the countdown is your friend.

Nice game, unfortunately it was way too laggy on the web build to be able to play properly, you suggested downloading the windows build in the description but I couldn't find any on the game page. But god mode allowed me to check out the game properly.

So from what I understand, you just dodge bullets by moving around and pressing space, and the character shoots automatically after a while. I love the way the character says howdy to everyone, even enemies when a duel starts. It is nice to see the girl show up in duels and you can go up to her to say howdy as well. But that doesn't seem to have any advantage? The art style is really cute and the music is awesome to listen to. There is also  another hats counter which starts from 100 and counts down when you defeat an enemy. I got it down to 50 with god mode.

The game has this cute western vibe that I really like. Good Job!

Like the art, nice concept! Nice entry!

howdy! this was a great take on the theme and i love your the art that came with it. on web, the player character kept going off screen, so it took a refresh or two to play. though, kudos to you for doing this all in rust!  did you use the bevy engine?

Developer

I fully own up to how buggy it is! If I'd been sensible and used something like Bevy, I'd have delivered a lot more stable of a product. Choosing to use a tool is a gamedev skill need to work on..

Thank you for the play and the feedback.

A unique take on the theme, wrapped in a rather sweet cowboy aesthetic. You very clearly challenged yourself technically with some of the design choices here, which makes it all the more impressive and surprising that this is your first finished game. It's not an easy task (still not sure I've managed it myself), so extra kudos for that!

The visual presentation here is absolutely breathtaking—incredible artwork all around! I love the tense concept of counting down and having to perfectly time your repositions to dodge the incoming bullets. It was definitely a bit confusing to wrap my head around at first, but once the timing clicked, the gameplay loop felt super rewarding and intense. Left you a well-deserved top rating! Thanks so much for stopping by my page to check out Cowboy Countdown as well, I really appreciate the mutual support! 🤠

Fun idea and cute artwork showing unique touch with both sprites and scrolling effect. Nice idea on flipping countdown to positive thing. Unfortunately, could only test the browser versio that freezed at time to time so play experience was limited. I also saw your comments that things broke on last second, I always do that to my projects too while rushing to submit something :D
And congratulations on finishing your project! It isn't easy and your attitude is awesome, keep it up :)

I really liked how you implemented the theme into your game! Having to manage between dashing out of danger and repositioning yourself to take out the most amount of enemies in one attack was really satisfying! The artwork and Game juice can use some more polishing, but the concept of a really fun game is present here! Well done!

damn it i cant find your windows build! i was able to get a play though in before it broke to all hell but WOW. ill say it again WOW, this has got to be the most innovative use of the theme ive seen all jam, while i went with a generic mechanic and just tried to spam the theme as much as i practically could you guys made countdown an entire game mechanic in a setting that felt natural and fun. the last day hygiene neglect is tragic because it is the ONLY thing holding this back from taking the jam by storm!
do not be dissuaded, i saw the gameplay, this IS top 100!

It's pretty fun! just a little confusing at first,
a quick tutorial or onboarding could really help.
Nice fitting audio with the BGM and SFX (Howdy!!)
Also pretty unique spin on the "A game where the countdown is your friend"
since in most of the entries I've seen here, the countdown mechanic is mostly the enemy

I guess make the map roll is really difficult, still you did it well! With the music, with the cute mouse art! Though I first is a bit confuse on how to play the game, or how to defeat the bad mouse. Oh, also love the idea of counting 3 to shoot! Very cowboy, love it!

I would have probably enjoyed this more if it ran well on my device. A Rust game is certainly something I don't see everyday. Creating that parallax effect must've been quite the effort, so I commend you for that. On the technical side, I'm sure this was a fun game to work on. Stylistically, it's coherent and endearing. Gameplay-wise, it's a little all over the place. I do love the intent behind making the countdown feel like your friend rather than something which you actively go against. That is a small but fantastic subversion of the common premise. Still, the mechanics of running around and dodging fire is so-so. I, as a player, don't feel compelled to place intent behind where I move or what I do, so long as I'm not in the angle of the shooter and its shot. The game, in turn, becomes constant line estimation, geometric finagling, and running around like a headless chicken more than anything else. With all that being said, I truly like this game, and I find it full of wonder all the same. Congrats on submitting for the jam, especially for a game with a more unique codebase and possibly more involved machinations. I wish you the best.

P.S. A town couldn't possibly need that many saloons and jails, right?!

Really unique take on the theme, what a polite main character! The atmosphere and art style for the game is a nice touch, and congrats on finishing the game in time, good job!

I like it! The music, the atmosphere, and hand-drawing art are very amazing. Easy to play. Funny characters and voice. Happy to enjoy this game for a moment. 😊

Artstyle is cute, concept is very creative, but the 3D perspective is kind of jarring sometimes.
Good work!

Good game, but the music slider is broken.

Howdy Pardner. That's a fun little game. The pacifists gunslinger challenge!

Will try the windows version later as the web version was a little less buttery than you hoped :)

Still a nice one - and congrats for finishing!! Woo hoo!!

Thank you so much. I call it, the "hand write an ECS system from scratch in rust then completely botch the release at last second" special ahahah. :)

The outpouring of support for the theming really means a lot to me, while also teaching me about my priorities next go around xx

Interesting idea, but graphics - i love it!

I really liked the graphical style you used for this game :D

The html version was a bit laggy but I liked it nonetheless :)
