Interesting idea, the puzzles were simple but fun, I also liked the music and SFX!

Thank you!! I think for my post jam update I'll make some more challenging levels (perhaps another castle??) and also include a native fullscreen for the gameplay area itself for more desktop options!

The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because it's a decent puzzler, but it feels quite easy, at least the difficulty just does not ramp fast enough for me. The feeling I enjoy from puzzle games is being stuck for a short time, and having to use my brain, the first few levels felt (to me) redundant and felt like a multi-level tutorial and kept me from wanting to see the harder levels.

Even though my criticism above may sound harsh, I want to emphasize I had given it 2, 4-star ratings. So, it's quite good and would do exceptional as a mobile game.

Developer

Thanks for playing and leaving valuable feedback, really appreciate it!!

I was trying to walk that line of like making sure everyone that encounters it can be able to have a quick and good time for a game jam time playing / rating time frame.  I agree what was left on the table were getting those significantly harder brain puzzlers for more advanced players who understand and appreciate video games and puzzles on a deeper level.

I think this game could significantly benefit from another castle with harder levels and new mechanics.  Even the current mechanics could probably be squeezed for a bit more content and difficulty so fair points all around, thanks!!

Good point about mobile game.  This whole setup with the gameboy was designed to work with mobile and honestly be a mobile first experience in many ways.  For these game jams almost everybody is playing on desktop so I'll factor that in moving forward.  Perhaps I'll see about turning this into a mobile app!  Cheers!

Love that the game introduces everything so slowly, and then it builds on it. It feels so polished for a game jam.

Impressive.

Developer

Thank you so much!

Fun game, feels really polished in 4 days with the art, mechanics and how it's shown to us to do things

Always impresses me that there's transitions and animations too

Developer

Thank you so much!  The level transition was one of the last things that made the cut on the last day haha glad it made a difference!  Really appreciate you leaving feedback about the experience!!

This is such an aesthetically pleasing and seamless game! I love the gameboy visuals as well, it really ties everything together. My only complaint is that i wish there were more levels to play! The portal mechanic was very interesting.

Developer

Thank you so much!  That's the main feedback I've gotten is that there is more that has been left on the table so to speak :D  I'll be looking to expand this game in the upcoming post jam "jam" are you participating in that one as well?  Cheers!

Yesss!! We also went the count dracula route. I love the overall aesthetic and I think you did a great job in such little time. fun game

Developer

Count on it XD Thank you so much, really appreciate it!  I liked the aesthetic in your game too!  Brings a smile to my face to see the other count dracula routed entries.  Cheers!

my pfp is like a cartoon version of yours lol

I absolutely ADORE the art style! The retro Game-Boy-type look for the controls is not only visually pleasing. but also a neat way to have mobile support integrated into your game seamlessly! The actual puzzle mechanics are also really satisfying to figure out and overall pretty fun. My only complaint here would be that many of the levels feel a bit too easy, but that can easily be expanded on later! Well done!

Developer

Thank you so much!  Yeah that was totally the idea was to have mobile support by design!  Thank you very much for playing and providing feedback it definitely helps me grow.  I tend to agree these levels wound up a bit simplistic.  Goal was to keep it understandable and short so got that but left a lot of ideas on the table.  I also agree its ripe for expansion so not the worst problem to have!  Cheers!!

I love how he does a little dance after staking the vampire in the heart :D  Also, the console aesthetic is really nice. Great game! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!  Glad you liked his victory dance haha it makes me so happy to see him jump for joy.  Yay the gameboy part was kind of random but really fun and nostalgic for me.  Thanks again!

Was really fun to plan out your route and execute it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!  Really glad there was enough routing to be done that it was fun!  Cheers!

Solid entry. It looked polished sounded good, and the pacing on new mechanics hit at just the right time. Nice job!

Developer

Thank you!  Really appreciate the feedback on the pacing of when the new mechanics come in.  I wanted to keep it overall simple for a game jam but with enough of a wrinkle for some variety.  Cheers!

Walls reversing your direction was a cool little mechanic used in some interesting ways. Liked it a lot!

Developer

Thanks so much!  Glad you liked it!

The simplicity and charm really sell the game for me!

Developer

Thank you!! Thanks for playing and leaving feedback!

Lovely idea , i love the transition effect between levels .

Developer

Thank you so much!  That transition was a somewhat late idea but it made the cut and I'm glad it did!

Submitted(+1)

Cool idea, great execution, short (in a good way) but still some good level design ideas !

Also the visuals were great ! Loved the fact that you play on a gameboy

also +1 for controller support !

Developer

Thank you!! Appreciate you leaving feedback!  I kept it short and sweet but I'm really glad you found some good ideas in the level designs!  I loved making the gameboy lol I spent a good amount of time on that setup glad you liked it!  Then it only felt right to have controller support since you're on a gameboy XD  mobile works too for the full GB type experience!  Cheers!

This is simple, elegant, polished and cute. I think you should be proud of yourself. I think there is so much room for more puzzles.
And while the gameboy frame actually was a really nice touch, it did make the  playing area annoyingly small. It didn't negatively impact what you've made though, good job!

Developer

Thank you so much I really appreciate that!  Thank you for sharing feedback as well about what worked and where there can be improvement!  I did realize at some point during development that it was very small but I stuck with it.  Mobile was also a strong consideration for this game since handheld felt right for the gameboy vibe

PS - I just tried and you totally can set your browser zoom to 300% and its a pretty good zoom up experience.  That said I'll strongly consider including a desktop fullscreen option to get the action bigger if I choose to do this gameboy approach again.  Thank you so much for playing!

The game is super sweet, very polished and well made. Unfortunately I felt like the puzzles didn’t really push me, there was no “eureka” moment through out the gameplay. Still very cute game! image.png

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!  More levels with more complexity would certainly be a good thing!  Cheers for leaving feedback!!

Pretty cool! I really like the retro style of it.

Developer

Thanks for playing!! Yeah I leaned all the way into the nostalgia of discovering a small game on the game boy from many moons ago.  Cheers thanks for leaving feedback I really appreciate it!
