Ranked from 75 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does your game fit the theme?
As stuff piles onto your raft, the weight meter fills. Once full, a countdown will appear and if it reaches 0, your raft sinks. It adds a little stress to the game which I think works for it.

You’ve got something potentially very addictive here. The loop is simple, side to side, bash, jump, slam, but the balance is what sold me. The number of runs I had that came down to the last 15, 10, 5 seconds before ending in a death is a testament to the tuning. My final score was 1253.

Those weak boxes though, I have never hated and prioritized something so much at the same time, they led to so many of my deaths :)

A couple thoughts if you keep building. A small tutorial covering the buttons and the box types would smooth out the first run. And I could see extra modes doing well here, something like a slam only mode, or boxes that make the raft list to one side when the weight stacks unevenly.

What’s the top score you’ve seen so far? Trying to figure out how proud of 1253 I should be. Also, do the different boxes have different weights or is it just the amount of hits each one takes?

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed it! Also, there was very little tuning, I ran out of time and didn’t playtest so I just got lucky. If anything I think I may have made it a little too hard 😂

A tutorial to test the controls would definitely be good, not sure if I’ll include it but I definitely should add something to let the player know how to play and what the blocks do.

Also, just finishing is pretty good! I don’t think I’ve seen anyone get higher than 1500 so far though

This is a really solid game, can be quite addicting. A bit difficult to get to the end but I enjoyed it still.

The simple Pixel art fits the game really well, the controls feel nice, and the sound design is well done. I don't really have much to critique, mainly suggestions - The game could do with a waves or a level system, having upgrades, being more difficult, maybe adding other things to do as well. But those are really up to the dev

Overall it is really well polished. And I enjoyed playing it a lot.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! It’s supposed to be a very quick experience so I don’t think I’d put upgrades in, but waves sound like they could be fun. I originally planned to drop clusters of blocks as things got harder but didn’t get to it so I imagine it would be something like that. I won’t really be adding more content other than some minor changes, but thanks for the suggestions 😁

A nice simple fun game! I like the art and the audio as well. Good job!

I feel so dumb, I didn't read the controls until after i beat it the first time and I didn't know there was a shoulder bash, i kept worrying about getting a stack more than 2 or 3 because I couldn't destroy them at all. Turns out I should read cause it would've been SO MUCH EASIER

Developer(+1)

Oh no, that sounds way harder 😂

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game.   I love how you made this simple game, but little things matter like what type of box it is and how you should hit it based on whats above it and how it breaks.  Really fun!  I didn't get under 30 seconds, but frustrating in a good way.

Developer

I had more blocks planned so I didn’t intend it to be quite as simple as it is, but I’m happy the few I managed to get in made it fun enough 😁

Great game with great art! The mechanics are suproisingly deep and interesting. I found it pretty hard and unforgiving though. Maybe some easier beginner levels to get used to how things work would be great!

Developer(+1)

I actually didn’t intend for it to be this hard, I may make an easier mode in a post jam version if I get to it. Also probably an endless mode since that’s 99% of the way made

Submitted(+1)

This is incredibly polished game. The mechanics are very in depth with different kind of blocks you have to account for and this game is proper hard and very addictive. Super impressive and very good audio visuals and a catchy tune!

I really enjoyed this arcade style game. Every single box adds so much to the gameplay, I didn't expect for the most fragile box to be the most deadly. Also, I like the Wario inspired character.

Developer

I didn’t expect the fragile one would be the scariest one when I was making it, it was meant to be an easy one 😂

This was really enjoyable!

(Gushing) Okay this section is just dedicated on how the deep the mechanics and movement

Blocks

  • Each of the blocks added really gives the game some ridiculous depth
  • The heaviest chest is an immediate but easy to deal with threat, push it out to sea and its done and deal!
  • The metal blocks take a while but their frequency can allow for some safe pushing without risk of getting crushed
  • The wooden boxes meanwhile are one hit and can be killed instantly, something to clear off
  • And finally, the brittle... oh the brittle... This one in combination with the rest is one of THE most dangerous blocks.
  • If its on the edge you can die easily
  • If its on the middle you may get through and get squished by something else falling
  • If any block is on top of it, as its really deadly. as slamming into it kills you by the falling block on top of it.
  • Every time I see this in the dangerous formations I have to think on how the hell am I going to deal with this

Movement

  • The way how the movement is done is so satisfying, with the basic movements, the really awesome bash and dash.
  • Jumping after a dash can provide some really quick speeds allowing to get away or get into safety (or danger into the sea and another falling block)
  • A jump-bash can allow to deal with the deadly fragile formations as it pushes 2 blocks at the same type if you got the positioning correct.
  • Or the jump-bash can allow to get up and deal with threats up above in safety, with...
  • the downward slam able to stop your movement mid air and giving some much needed control.
  • Not to mention after bashing a non fragile blocks, you can slam down to get back quickly (Don't do it though for stacks, you get into the crates too early and you die)

From just the simple elements it makes for a good game, I'm not even talking about the chosen assets and art, its well-chosen and put into composition it makes for a good game! The music was nice as well!

The score mechanic allows for some replayability and looking again at the tips section, I saw treasure chests being valuable while broken...

Overall, this is really cool, I guess it counts down in both objects going down, you have to account for each one, and the ship counts down as its too overloaded... Thank you for submitting in the game jam!

P.S. Oh completely forgotten, there was a weird bug of crates floating on the sea... I wish I could tell more or screenshotted it for reproducibility, but it did happen.

Developer(+1)

Glad you really enjoyed it and I definitely didn’t expect an in depth post like this!

When I submitted I was really worried my game wouldn’t do well since I felt like it was pretty undercooked, so I’m happy to hear the core mechanics worked well enough to make it fun! I also didn’t expect the brittle plank blocks to be the twist villain of the game when I was making it, I meant for them to be one of the easier blocks but had to tone down their spawn rate due to how evil they were 😂

I’m also aware of the bug where boxes can float by getting stuck in each other, I’ll probably try to fix it in a post jam version but I probably won’t get to it for a bit

Anyway, thanks for playing and I appreciate the feedback 😁

Submitted(+1)

Controlling the character felt really nice. Definitely took me a bit because I kept shoulder bashing the planks when there were things on top of them. Overall super fun game.

Developer

Thanks for giving it a try! The planks were definitely a harder obstacle than I thought they’d be 😂

This is a really fun game! The controls feel nice and fluid. I like the music too. I was able to spam the downward-slam move to break things really quickly, maybe you could add a cooldown so you can't jump immediately after slamming. Overall great job on this!

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed it! I thought about putting a cooldown on the downward slam, but even with it being super spammable, it didn’t seem too unbalanced so I left it in to work on other parts of the game instead

suffering from success - loved this game

A nice arcade game. Liked the controls and the feel of the game.

Submitted(+1)

This is a really great little arcade game! You've done really well, especially solo! My only feedback is that I don't think the weight bar should change when I hit a box as the box is still technically on the raft. But that's such a minor detail. Great work

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for giving it a try! The player actually has weight as well so the change is actually the player bouncing up a bit after hitting a box. I liked the visual of the player bouncing back and didn’t want to change it, even if the bar looks a little weird 😅

Submitted(+1)

OHHHHH, that makes sense then!

Submitted(+2)

This is a really well polished game. there is more depth to it than what it seems like. The only thing that might make it better would be to have "E" or "Q" be the control scheme to push blocks around instead of "X" or shift. I got a lot of sticky keys notifications lol. Overall, solid minigame with a more depth to it than meets the eye. Nice game :)

Developer

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I wanted to add button mapping but I didn’t have the time. Next jam I think I’ll try to get it done earlier if I can remember

Submitted(+1)

Really hard minigame ! I love the simple concept of the game, and the execution is great. One addition I would make is to maybe have the raft dip to one side as it gets heavier, to add another dynamic to the game or different box sizes?

Developer

Thanks for giving it a try! I don’t think I’ll have tipping unless it’s purely cosmetic, but I did plan on having more blocks, and blocks of different sizes. I only got the minimum amount of stuff needed to submit the game finished right before the deadline and didn’t have time to add more 😅

Submitted(+1)

Awesome mini-game, neat concept! Art comes together real nicely as well.

Submitted(+1)

I DID IT! After so so many attempts I did it!!

Such a good game. Definitely among the best I’ve played the jam so far! I love all the littles quirks (like the weight decreasing when you jump); the mechanics and the polish of this game. You did an incredible job for a jam so short.

Final Score: 1492

Developer

Nice, glad you enjoyed it! It’s good to hear you made it to the end, I was starting to worry I made it way too hard by accident since I didn’t do enough playtesting 😂

I may try to give yours another go at some point to see if I can make it to the end

Submitted(+1)

Cute game and I enjoyed. I wasn't able to beat it because I kept getting crushed by blocks on top of the ones I bashed.
