Took me a few tries but I beat him! I love me a good Hollow Knight styled combat system and this feels pretty faithful in concept, nice job! I also made a game with combat techniques that take similar inspiration.

Submitted(+1)

Artwork and concept are really strong ! I really love this game :)

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the kind words :))

The storytelling, artwork and audio is so cool together ! Love the expression and pose so much XD Our time ticking down again and again, still can't fight the half of his blood. Cool game !!!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

nice boss fight!
my opinion: for a game jam you might consider supporting a more wide spread control scheme so everyone can pick up the controls in seconds

Developer(+1)

There are adjustable keybinds in the options menu!

Submitted(+1)

Nice! it was too hard for me though. Good job overall.

Submitted(+1)

Nice boss fight! Was a lot of fun getting the patterns down and eventually pulling it off :D

Developer

Glad you liked it! This was my first bossfight I've ever coded so I wasn't sure if it would be fun, but it looks like it is, judging by many of the comments here!

Submitted(+1)

I mashed all teh buttons good, but still died lol, gg

Developer(+1)

Yep! You can't just play hyper-aggro, you have to dodge the attacks too! It would be boring if mashing all the buttons lets you beat it

Submitted(+1)

Nice work!
Pretty tough right out the gate... or im real buns at fighting games
But well done on the custom art

Developer

It is intentionally very hard! I love how bossfights in silksong are overwhelming at first, but as you do more attempts you get better each time until you finally beat it (which feels very satisfying), so I tried to make my bossfight feel like that.

Submitted(+1)

it's hard because i'm ass at fighting games, but i like that Count Down hits the flowery pose

Submitted(+1)

A bit challenging at first as I am not great at fast paced fighter games... but I do love the art and music! Very fitting and fun for the theme :)

Submitted(+1)

I loved it! The difficulty was quite hard at the first stage..! other than that good..!

Developer

Exactly what I was aiming for! The boss is supposed to be hard and overwhelming at first, but as you do more attempts get easier, and be really satisfying when you finally beat it! Just like bossfights from Silksong

Submitted(+1)

I love me a good boss fight! The difficulty was quite fun and it only took me a few tries to figure out the strategy for the stone block move. You also took care to do clear telegraphing, which made things very fair and I never once blamed the game for my own skill issues lol.

Obviously the jam deadline was tight, but it would be nice to see some more feedback especially when it comes to either you dealing damage or taking damage. Hitting the count, for example, would be great if there was some kind of visual feedback or even knockback - the latter is more of my own personal preference since it feels like attacks have more weight and impact.

Really fun submission!! I try to make an effort to do at least one boss in all of my gmtk submissions too :)

Developer

This is my first time programming a bossfight game, and my second game (most of my team has more experience than me tho), so I'm glad it turned out pretty well! It wasn't perfect, and I'll take all the feedback I can get to make the next bossfight even better!

Submitted(+1)

This was a neat game. I suckalucka at this. Felt like it was just a bit too fast for me. But I noticed different game over art which was really interesting. :D Controls were really responsive!

There’s quite a few variations of attacks which is nice. (Something I wish I could’ve done for the boss in our game!) Kudos to the artists and the character designers. Really enjoyed the beginning cut scene! :D

Developer

I'll let the artists know! They both cooked so hard :)

Submitted(+1)

Very fun game! I really enjoyed the art style, even though it was quite difficult to survive at first. Great game.

Submitted(+1)

The hockey pucks were too difficult for me, but otherwise fun bossfight! The volume does seem a bit high, though, would be nice to be able to lower it.

Developer (1 edit)

The trick to dodging the bricks is to keep moving as much as possible so they don't fall on you. Then just focus on the brick stack, and jump at the right time! It is definitely supposed to be hard though. Also thanks for the feedback! Next jam I'll definitely include music/sfx volume settings

Submitted(+1)

What a great boss fight! I love the name of the Count, and adored the opening cutscene. Great game!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Dude we were stressing out so much trying to get the opening cutscene into the game lol. Very last minute addition but I'm so glad we finally figured out how to add it

Submitted(+1)

You did a great job! I hadn't realized it was a last-minute add on at all lol. Definitely added a ton to the experience as I was hyped when I tried out the game

Submitted(+1)

love a good boss fight! Took quite a few tries just getting a handle on things, but this worked really well :)

also the animations on the count and art overall is super slick, good work :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I'm so happy everyone is enjoying the gameplay! Also I'll tell the artist you said that abt the animations :) He did an amazing job!

Submitted(+1)

Really fun game, It really reminded me of those hollow knight boss fights. It would be cool if there was a short tutorial though, it was a bit challenging at the start but became more fun later on.

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it! Also I feel like that's often how Silksong bosses go (and probably Hollow Knight too, I just haven't played it so I can't be 100% sure of that); you are thrown into some cool boss, who proceeds to destroy you in less than 20 seconds. Then you repeat the bossfight, doing a little better each time, until you finally beat it. It's supposed to feel overwhelming at first, but really satisfying when you finally win!

Submitted(+1)

This game was pretty challenging for me. It took me quite a while to finally beat that count, but it was really satisfying. Great game!

Developer(+1)

great job! I'm very happy that you felt accomplished, exactly what I was going for (I was inspired by silksong bossfights, which are also super challenging, but make you feel great when you finally beat it)

Submitted(+2)

is it me or is this count kind of hot?

Developer

we could all barely focus on making the actual game once count d got designed
