I think if there were a "Technical" rating category, this game would shoot right up to the top. I'm also treating this game as if the gameplay loop simply involved locking in a site, and winning if said site becomes the wealthiest at the end of the round - so I'm not gonna be mean about the lack of a "You Win!" screen, I'll just pretend it's there for the sake of review.

It took me a bit of time to comprehend the underlying logic, I think. I had the gist down after about my 3rd time reading through the game description, but even with that knowledge I'm not really an economist, so I can't really speak to the quality of the simulation here. At the very least when my prediction was wrong, it was somewhat clear to me why the winning site succeeded the way it did (Having high production in everything but food doesn't really matter when you're surrounded by like, 5 sites able to feed you with a king's feast).

I think the actual details of the game aren't too complex to track - from a game design perspective, I think you're just missing a few QoL elements that would make it a lot easier for the layman to ease their way into understanding the simulation. For one, the event tracker could absolutely do with a little more than just text - I think some icons that have been colour coded based on their relevant resource would help understand events at a glance, or maybe filtering out specific events when a site is clicked. I also think if a site's currently held imports were made visible (or more visible, if there already was a system to view imports, I missed it), it'd also help communicate the import/event system a little quicker without having to learn the (arguably) most important game element from the last section of the description. Maybe it'd also be nice to see potential events ahead of time, but I think needing to play a few rounds of this to learn things through trial and error makes the game significantly more interesting.

I don't usually engage with these kinds of games but I liked what was here. I hope you keep this kind of ambition up for future jams, cause I think this isn't an inherently flawed idea, just one held back by time constraints.

Good job! The hard worked paid off! The ability to 'lock in' a bet beforehand and possibly a live leaderboard of the sites would be nice.

This is so cool! Really something else, congrats!

Saw your comment in Itch.io and I knew I needed to come here.

ALL my predictions are wrong!!! I suck!! I'm curious, what was the game aspect you didn't get time for? I am left wondering what could've been and I feel like you could take this in a lot of different directions

What's missing is a way for the game to enforce your predictions, rewarding you when you get them right and punishing you when you get them wrong. It would have a quota of ~7 moneys and you would need to choose 1-3 sites that will have that amount at the end of the round.

Once that is working you could get into more involved simulations stuff. Like if every site had a unique resource only they could produce, which I thought about but didn't know how to implement.

Super ambitious! Even though there isn’t really a “game” here, modeling an economic system is really cool! Definitely ripe for expansion.

Super neat in concept. I'd love to be able to interact with the world a bit more, but I understand full economic model simulation must be quite the feat. Would love to see where you might take this! Good job!

I have mad respect for the ambition! If nothing else, I hope your team had fun and learned a lot.

Thanks :D

This game was made by Me, Myself & I. And at least I had fun!

This would be my jam, if you added a $ counter at the top, and actually put a bet down on which will go up and which will go down. Maybe have some disasters and such.
Right now its a concept that I like, and I would be real interested if you take it further.

You're listing all the mechanics we had to cut :,)
Turns out 60% of dev time was just balancing the simulation.

This was something totally unique and new to me.

I think you did something really creative here.

Well done! :D

Oh yeah, Sacred Growth wins 🌳🌳🌳

Ahem, anyways, props to making a whole simulation. I struggle with systems based games since it feels like you need to make so much before you can even start on the game portion. Even if it turned out to be prediction based only gameplay (hey, prediction markets are popular these days). Wondering what you’d build it out for in the future.

Developer

Sacred Oak in an island is OP, even after I nerfed Holy Relics. On the other hand, you know your simulation is working when you accidentally include monopolies.

I really like those kind of games, and it was pretty interesting to try and figure out how the aspects of how each resource would impact the final result. I wonder what can be done with it, if it had more time to cook. Great job!

looks very nice, I really love these games. Flesh it out & keep the chaos

Developer

Thanks :D
I'll make it extra chaotic just for you.

the idea looks good and i think it will look better when you manage to get the modeling out :)

Very cool take on the concept, to be honest, I would love to see where you take this as a full-fledged game!

The trade orbs were fun to watch, and guessing which site would richest was a good idea. Lots of potential here—rated!

Submitted

I like the idea of making a prediction and watching things unfold, interesting take on the theme.

Wildly ambitious concept. It's too bad that the scope prohibited a fuller vision to making it here before the jam ended. This sort concept is one for the Europa Universalis bros, I think--ultra-crunchy with lots of carefully considered moving parts.

Developer

Thanks :D

I'll try to flesh it out for max crunchiness

Great job and nice game! I rated your game.

I saw your post relating this to the Illwinter manuals and thought it was hilarious. I really love projects that go out of their way to be as convoluted as possible in simulating a world like this. Love the effort! Good job

Developer

Thanks :D
My dream game is to make a "Zoo" version of Ilwinter's Dominions, where you watch the little factions fight for control. This is 1/1,000 of the way there. But it's the closest I've ever gotten!

Interesting idea, reminds me of rimworld's world view and a bit of dwarf fortress, very hard to pull off in  the limited time available in a game jam. Needs some more time cooking and some gameplay mechanics to make it fully flourish. Was interesting to see what you got done and what influence different starting locations had on events.

Developer(+1)

Thanks :D
Dwarf Fortress was a major inspiration, which is probably where the problems started.
