This the 100th game I played from this jam, and what a brilliant one it is for that milestone! I loved the jumping mechanic, it's satisfying, there's a skill ceiling, and the light/dark timer thing adds a level of frantic panic to the whole thing, you don't have time to carefully plan out a jump you just need to go! Loads of fun, great entry :)
The concept is really cool, but it feels like the time limit is a bit tight? I'd suggest checkpoints but it might take away from the difficulty if that's what you're going for.
Amazing stuff! The art and environment are great - that combined with the music made a very interesting surreal, semi-horror atmosphere. The mechanics were a lot to take in at first, but once I understood them, I was flowing. My only critique is that some details were hard to notice, like how long the lantern lasts, or whether I successfully braced for my landing (might be a bug, but it played the leg break sound effect even if I didn't lose any health), but otherwise the gameplay is very fun and I could definitely see this being a full game someday! :)
MAKE IT INTO A FULL GAME!!!
Its certainly a possibility, join our discord (button in the menu) to keep updated on any future development :)
What an amazing game. Somehow felt inspired by both dark souls and alan wake, I loved the atmosphere and the art, tho I think I ran into a bug and a pillar disappeared on the second level. I also would have liked if it the path to the end of the level was clearer. Either way, great work!
The safe zone areas were inspired by the dark souls camp fires so awesome that you picked up on that :). I think you ran into the platforms that disappear upon a timer, the ones with a "Cracked" like texture. Appreciate the feedback I'll definitely consider revamping the level pathing. Thanks for playing!
Great ideas in here ! Some jumps are a bit hard and demand some retry, but that gives back satisfaction !
Good job on the atmosphere too
Thanks so much :), glad you difficulty struck a good balance with you, it was really hard to decide on how challenging to make the levels.
Great gameplay! I love how the movement feels, and the open-ended level design is super fun!
Appreciate that! I wanted the levels to feel open with lots of choice. In a full release I'd love to expand on that idea :)
The charge jump mechanic is really fun! I enjoyed navigating through as quickly as possible with it while planning around light sources. Very cool style, especially the UI and HUD. Looks, sounds, and plays great
So glad you had a fun time with it. thanks for playing!
This is really awesome, great work, loved the sound design
Thank you! Glad someone noticed the sounds haha
Insanely polished puzzle platformer game, it's really impressive you guys made this entire game in just 4 days! kudos to the team, I really enjoyed this game :D
Appreciate that! It was 4 long days of work, right up until the deadline but super worth it. Thanks for playing :)
Took me a while to understand that we can bounce on the shrooms, only when I arrived at the third area that I understood it haha. Anyways, I love the vibe and the whole day & night mechanic ! I just love games when they have immersive UI as well, great vibe overall !
I could have definitely been more explicit in explaining those in the tutorial. Thank you that means a lot :)
I'm not sure how well the day-night cycle fits the theme, but thats just me, the jumping mechanic is pretty clever and I can see a more full fledged speedrunning game implementing this movement as part of its mechanics, gj!
Thanks for checking it out, a full release with a speed running twist could definitely be in the cards :)
I've played my fair share of parkour games and this one is quite unique. The day timer speeding up was an awesome addition to the challenge and I very much enjoyed the charging up mechanic of leaping across various platforms, bracing or using mushrooms to slow my fall. Also, I loved the art direction! A speed run timer would be awesome. Dope work, fellas!!
thanks man! glad you enjoyed
Like the atmosphere, the alternation between light and dark is interesting. Could not do the space jump, I think I did not have the right timing.
About mushrooms, maybe make them simpler to run on them so we can jump without having too much trouble to target them, I am not very agile with KBM.
Thanks! And I hear that, the difficulty curve could've been tweaked for sure. Maybe larger collision for the mushrooms. Appreciate you giving it a play :)
Super cool game with a nice core idea, works well,
love the art style too (I don't what how it's called, reminded me of Lethal Company ?)
What engine / Assets did you use ?
Yes Lethal Company was a big inspiration for the visuals. Unity engine, assets are a mix between what's been shared in the credits and our own stuff. Thanks for playing :)
really great atmosphere and UI. nice work!
Appreciate it!
Ouch, i have sustained corporeal damage from jumping. The visuals are really nice. Time to jump on a squishy red mushroom to break my fall!
Thank you! Hahaha that's the strat ;)
I didn't know you could do custom expand the game buttons on itch!
This game was so neat!
It's kind of like a horror parkour game.
It feels good to jump far and go fast. The flares and lanterns to help you when you've made a mistake and are stuck in darkness add a nice bit of safety cushion and decision making.
I cannot for the life of me time the brace correctly but 5 damage is liveable.
What post-processing did you use, your game looks great!
It looks like Lethal Company, if you have any resources I woudl love to cop your look!
Great job ya'll!
The brace timing is pretty mean, definietly needs better communicating. And yes, we are shamelessly imitating Lethal Company's look :)
The game renders to a 860 x 520 point-filtered Render Texture and we add a custom render feature added in at the very front of post processing.
Its job is to do 2 things: First to read the depth map so it can sample it 8 times for a sobel outline (cheap-ish at this resolution & in webGl) And secondly
to apply a posterization effect with 32 bands, mixed 50% with the original colour so its not TOO crunchy. The HLSL shader for that render feature looks like this: (parameters are passed in through shadergraph as a custom function)
https://pastebin.com/HrGHxSCC
Unlike LC we render our UI with a secondary perspective camera using meshes instead of sprites, allowing for wobble and movement which gives nice depth. Its also rendered to a Render Texture and blended additively ontop of the game.
Videos I watched prior to the jam helped a bunch!
(The Strange Graphics Of Lethal Company)
(Introduction to the Render Graph in Unity 6)
Thank u so much for the detailed response!
I may be shameless imitating ya'll shamelessly imitating Lethal Company soon haha 😂
The secondary perspective is clever, I'll be taking that to the lab and tinkering with colors, likely getting TOO CRUNCHY with it until I can reign myself in.
Fun game ; i was a bit confused to where I'm going ,but could be my fault though haha
I hear that! Some others echo that opinion. Thanks for playing!
I don't play many parkour games, but this one was really fun! Especially under the pressure of the impending darkness. Bracing when having to land was pretty difficult to time though and i often missed it. The HUD and light and dark transitions are so smooth and pleasing to the eye as well. Great job!!
Appreciate that! We could have maybe made the bracing more forgiving for sure. Thanks for playing :)
