I love that you made this in Pico-8, still something on my todo list for me. Love the art and the arcade gameplayfeel

I've seen a couple games with this sort of timer health bar, and this is the best balanced one I've found so far. I feel like the start is a little too hard with how many enemies there are, but the training mode really helped me overcome that initial hurdle, and once I got into it, the combat is very fun. Great job!
Thank you for the feedback! Balancing is such a hard act, there are at least a dozen variables going into the calculation of the fury/health-bar.
I should act a difficulty curve with enemy spawns increasing as the game goes on, thanks for the idea!
A minute survival time is already pretty impressive!
Fun little game! Great aesthetics and feels good to play. I did sometimes find that it was hard to distinguish things on screen when they were close together, and I felt like the melee attack was perhaps a bit weak compared to the throw, but otherwise this a solid experience. Good work!
Damn i love this, i was confused at first when i entered the survive mode right away but after getting the hang of it in training i found it pretty fun i like the idea of your health being a timer that drains, i really love the art style a lot too
Took me a minute to get the hang of it, but pretty fun once I did. Impressive amount of polish for a jam game!
The fury mechanic is what really makes this game really addictive to play! You either die from not killing enemies or you go on a killing spree.
I love the artwork and the music! From a PICO-8 game, even though the colors and the beats were limited, you nailed these categories. Great job!
Very cool entry, I love the axe throw it's extremely satisfying and has a good weight to it. I also love the verious bits of juice you've added to this like the screen boarder effects when you take damage, very nice.
One thing I couldn't quite figure out is how to get back to the main menu from training mode (without resetting the cart ofc), might be a nice quality of life thing to add at some point!
All told though great entry and a super dynamic PICO8 game 🤘
I really enjoyed this, super impressive in Pico 8. The particle and sound effects are great too.
A really cool concept for the jam. The mechanics felt a bit tricky to get used to at first, especially managing the axe throwing and keeping the Fury bar up. However, once I finally got the hang of the controls and the rhythm of combat, I had a lot of fun with it. The retro visual style and audio fit the fast-paced action nicely. Great effort, I liked it!
I really like the feeling of this game! The HP bar is such a cool mechanic and makes every fight feel more exciting. Defeating enemies feels really satisfying too!
Maybe if the axe could return automatically, the gameplay would feel smoother. Right now, throwing the axe often feels like a risky move that leads to death, hahaha.
Great game! I really enjoyed it.
Thank you for the nice feedback, I’m happy to hear you enjoyed the game feel! :D
I was considering adding a callback upgrade but then I ran out of time and tokens xD
Throwing the axe is very risky since it’s easy to loose, but also rewarding, since it kills most enemies with a single hit, as it deals more damage!
Really great asthetically! I really enjoyed looking at and listening to it. I quite liked the gameplay too but I kept dying so quickly haha. Good job!
The Good: Hey, another Pico-8 game! Which controls well and has some good SFX and the like! Also, nice menu.
The Meh: I do like the idea of the fury gauge, even if I’m not 100% sold on it fitting the theme, especially when at full fury
The Oof: I couldn’t get the hang of some of the actions.
Suggestions: If you have the tokens to spare, maybe add a back to menu option for the training area? Also, maybe convert the stats into a final score so it’s asier to see what is more important: surviving, or killing foes.
Nice to see another Pico 8 game! I loved the fast pace and satisfying hack-n-slash mechanics. That menu is really impressive too!
