Overall fantastic aesthetic and art style. However, the gameplay is problematic mainly because of its difficulty, so many obstacles in the level and going in every direction. I had trouble getting past the first level as the closest I got to completing it was at the 34 second mark.
Puts the hell in bullet hell! I really like the art and aesthetic of everything, one of the more unique ones I've seen this jam! I'm a sucker for anything stage related hehe. Once you get the hang of the patterns then it becomes a game where you really think about where you should go next, lest you find yourself taking damage, which I did. A lot!! The hitboxes are very very precise which isn't necessarily bad or good, but I had to adjust a little compared to other bullet hells. Overall I enjoyed it :))
I see, about the feeling of the hitbox being precise is because I really didn’t design this game to be a bullet hell haha, for that reason the hitbox of the character is big like a normal game
Though, from what I see in the comments, I think I should rethink my definition of bullet hell, for me this is just a hard platformer or an endurance game :)
I didn’t want to make another bullet hell because my last 2 jam entries were a bullet hell (a shmup and a roguelite) and there the hitbox is actually small with a lot of bullets, but I added a few of those in this game to have a little of variety and color
Good to see you like stage related stuff, I also like that haha. I’m happy you liked the art and thanks for your comment and playing my game! ^^
(PD: Thanks to this comment, I learned the word “lest”, it’s the 1st time I read it in my life xD)
A fun little bullet hell where the danger comes from all sides, good job!
Thanks for playing :)
This got so chaotic. It took me a long time to beat the first stage. I couldn't beat the second one. There was a time where there were energy bars all the way across the stage? I am not sure how I would avoid them. I think those were the hardest ones to dodge because I didn't know when they were coming. This is the first game of the jam I have played that is like this. I like the art style and the sound effects work very well with everything happening on stage. Overall a pleasant experience!
To cross the electric bars you need to dash across them, the dash deactivates your hitbox so you don't get damage, it works for any attack, as long you are dashing you don't get damage haha, I didn't have time to put an explanation into the game, sorry about that
Also the dash is kind of buggy so even if you cross them, you need to jump but sometimes your jump isn't detected, you could get hit after crossing those electric bars, the game is more difficult than it should for those bugs
I'm happy you give a shot to my game, thanks for playing! ^^
Well...it was really a painfully fun survival bullet hell ᐢ⩌⌯⩌ᐢ💢
While I appreciate the effort in art, story and music, the physics and controls made the gameplay very frustrating...
Anyways, I may have complained bit too much, nice work as solo dev and I look forward to your next bullet hell!
Sorry about the painful experience in level 2 haha, I really appreciate that you took a whole hour to pass level 2, it’s amazing
This problem got carried to the platforms that also I couldn't complete and the reason it can eat your jumps or feel janky. I tried to make the levels that didn’t make this very visible but it didn’t stop my mess from showing up haha, the second level was thought to be more dynamic but those bugs didn’t let me do that...
If I update the game I’ll put a warning on the electric bars and maybe make the hurtbox smaller :) The issues with the movement will take a little more because I’m not used to make platforms and I should use state machines to fix all that mess
I’m happy when people complain like this because it makes me see stuff and the impression my game had, so I’m happy you expressed this much, thanks for playing and congrats on finish the game!
(My next bullet hell should be the rework of my bullet hell jam submission, at least the 1st level with the new graphics and gameplay, it should be on September 15th! Next week I'll put on a post on Itch my progress on that)
I really wanted to get past this part, but I'm not really sure how to go about it? The art and music are wonderful, and I'd love to see the end, but I'm not quite sure how to progress from here. I can only get enough height to jump over one of the obstacles, and trying the fall and jump under technique was a bit of a fruitless endeavor XD
Ah, about that part, you only need to dash towards it, the dash deactivates the hitbox so you can cross through the traps (and any attack in general haha), in the second level there is an attack that kind of teaches you this, when all the electric traps comes at the same time near the end from above
The part you sent the screenshot is literally the last 2 jumps, the next one is the same and there is the end of the game, if you want I can send you the ending in a video so you can watch it ^^
Also thanks for playing my game, very happy you like the art and the music :D
Oh! That'll do it XD I was able to get to the end with the dash! I didn't realize it gave invulnerability, so I actually got through right to the end without ever using it until just now! Lovely game!
Haha, I see, I'm surprised you almost complete the game without the dash, if I update the game I'll put a part where it teaches the player this about the dash, I couldn't put a tutorial as my last games for the lack of time
And also I'm glad you could watch the end! ^^
Again, thanks for playing! :D
your artstyle and music reminds me a lot of ZUN and the Touhou games! especially the gameplay too, felt like i was playing a platformer version of touhou. really enjoyed this!
About the gameplay, I didn’t have planned to add bullets but I did because I wanted a little more variety of stuff to dodge. I can see why it can remind you of Touhou, the funny thing is that I haven’t played those games but the niche games I used to play grabbed stuff from Touhou, so in some I end up doing similar things to it hahaha
In my last 2 games I got similar comments, how my game remind them of the games
I don’t think my songs are that good but I really appreciate your comment, happy you enjoyed my game, thanks for playing! :)
I have played like this before. I just cant put my finger on it. The art is unique but so pretty. The controls are nice with some nice sounds that fit well with the movement. Would be nice if I would press s and fall through the platforms. The story is very interesting. Instantly made me curious. Thank you for making this. You should be proud :D
I didn't put the fall through the platforms only with s/down key because I felt if the player press it by accident, they will fall into the lava, so I put is as s/down + jump to do that haha
Happy to see you liked the art and the story, thanks for playing! :)
Things got real when the music started speeding up XD . Really nice game and fun gameplay and my skills were really tested. Unfortunately they weren't good enough, but still enjoyed playing it. Great work!
Thanks for playing! :)
game art was incredibly well drawn and the animation was neat! (in just 4 days too!!!) :) gameplay is simple but addictive to keep me playing (the second level was a little bit of a struggle (but i play celeste so I cant complain lol) . The good story helped immerse me too. The dash was a little janky and it sometimes flung me into the air (when passing through platforms I think) and only worked with momentum (when already falling you cant dash up) but mostly used for side-to-side strafing anyway so gameplay wasn't really effected just a little bit with moving platforms. Overall really well made, especially for a solo developer! ^^
Yeah, the dash is janky and buggy with the platforms xD I couldn’t fix this on time and before making the platforms a 1 way block, I wanted to make use of that janky launch you get by dashing into them. In the end I scrapped that because it was bad or didn’t fit the gameplay haha
Happy to see your comment, thanks for playing! ^^
I definitely won't be winning this, which is normal because I'm not good at bullet hell games anyways. If there are things I'd praise here, it would be the sound design and art (especially the art. It gave Paper Mario vibes and I actually had to look up the name: it's called cut-out art). The game loop itself was fun, but the difficulty jump from stage 1 to 2 and the bugs killed part of the fun. Tiny bit of advice regarding warnings: you place visual warnings to tell the player an attack is coming soon, but that is usually done by placing the warnings where the attack will land, not where it will come from. This helps the player avoid the danger without decreasing the difficulty too much because it's still a bullet hell and the screen is filled with projectiles. Regardless, you did a great job.
Yeah, the difficulty from level 1 to 2 is bigger than it should be and the bugs don’t help, so I can understand that it can kill the fun. I’m happy you gave the game a shot and glad you liked the visuals with the audio!
Thanks for playing! And I’ll have in mind your advice, thanks for pointing it out :D
Sad to say, Renata was not coming back with my playthrough. Excellent job; the platforming was difficult enough to keep me engaged, and the music was really good.
I see, it's ok haha, I'm happy you give my game a play
Thanks for playing! :D
I actually think this game hits a really good difficulty balance for the most part.
The second stage is definitely way harder, but very few times it felt unfair. Definitely a little bit finnicky with the platforms, but that would be my only gripe in terms of the gameplay. Overall, it feels smooth, and the sound design helps a lot as well!
The standout is the visuals tho! I love the hand-crafted theatre design feel to all of it! The music ramps up really nicely as well throughout the stages. The story is a little mysterious but intriguing all the same. It's very stylish and unique, which I enjoyed!
For a game made by one person, this was a banger! Great work
The second level I can see the unfair parts and it would be different if it wasn't for the thing with the platforms, with the little time I had left, I went with the current design, which isn’t that bad but it needs more play test, I build it as “if I can clear it once, it’s good enough” xD
I had to nerf it because it was tough but now it fits a little better the pace of the song
Really happy you liked the visuals, and about the story, I had to improvise it, originally this jam I had planned to not make any story or something like that, just gameplay, but I realized that I didn’t have time for the original idea and after making the 1st song, I got this idea haha, nice to see you enjoyed it!
Thanks for playing ^^
Very difficult game but charming at the same time, also I absolutely love the art :D
Happy to see you like the art! Thanks for playing ^^
a nice little game, that gets tough real quick ^^ I really like the visuals. A little bug after the first game, hitting retry did not remove the curtain, but then maybe this is hard mode 😉
Sad to hear you got a bug that didn't remove the curtain :(
Maybe this is related to the z-index stuff I couldn't fix on time because I was too tired to think and realized at the end when I was putting the bug effect on the levels...
Yeah, it gets tough quickly, I only had time for a couple of levels so I did it like this, would be easier if the dash movement wasn't too janky and I fix the platform issues haha. Thanks for playing!
Wickedly difficult! I like the narrative element and the graphical style, kinda reminds me half of Clannad and half of Madoka Magica. Great work!
Madoka's visual style was part of inspiration for this kind of visuals and recently for the games I have been making haha. I really like that unique style (in general SHAFT art style), but also I started to make something like this because the song from Ado “Aiaia”, the song uses similar visuals and it reignited the wish of making similar visuals :)
I wanted to make a better difficulty but I lacked time to play test more and fix the platforms haha
Thanks for playing! :D
Solid bullet hell gameplay. Intro was a bit long for me.
Thanks for playing! :)
It's really nice to see that you're still making games! I always love your high skill gameplay mechanics and this game is no different.
IT WAS TOUGH but extremely fun, and I always love to see your unique art-style.
There was a bug I believe where after I had died, one of the obstacles wasn't despawned and I started the next attempt with -1 health.
Really nice entry and well done!
P.S - Love seeing how your art improves every game jam
Thanks for your nice comment :)
About the bug that removes you life at the start of the round, I realized late and couldn't fix it haha, thanks for playing! ^^ Happy you had fun!
