How does your game fit the theme?
The entire game revolves around a 20-second countdown. Your lantern only stays lit for 20 seconds before going out, forcing you to constantly manage your limited light by finding candles and wax while exploring the haunted mansion. Every second counts, making the countdown the core of both the gameplay and the tension.

Love the lantern as the cooldown, with refilling it to refresh. and how once its time to escape, there no more refilling.
The feedback in the game is both nice, and can be polished. IE, interactable that have been used should no longer show (e) to interact. I do like the harsh sound of the lowering latern light, as well as the dimming of the room. Both let me focus on the game without watching the cooldown, while still being totally aware of it.
Was able to do the game in a single run, which honestly im glad haha.
Great job!
The theme interpretation in the lantern is absolutely right, I kept feeling the tension from it. I cannot say the same for the interaction bars filling, I think this is a problem of balancing gameplay and narrative.
The game objective doesn't need to be the longest, even more when failing doesn't give a particularly narrative ending with the red letter overlay. Sometimes is better to let the player feel the tension, move the refill spots to the right places (that I see are pretty correct, that tension was good), but making the player stay in place that much doesn't add to the thrill, it takes you away from it.
The art and sound are correct! Would have love some love to the lose screen.
I'm such a baby. Last thing i need is a spooky spooky game. And you got me sprinting through haunted houses looking for keys and i can only carry one - good lord. that low light level sound will haunt my dreams
this was really good! very anxiety inducing especially with the sound effect that plays at 10 seconds left, and i also panicked when it told me to find the exit at the end haha but i really liked it! highlights for me are the art and the intro cutscene, very lovely! i was really surprised at how good the intro cutscene was!
movement feels really good, i felt like interacting wasn’t 100% consistent for some reason like sometimes the e button wouldn’t work, and the fact that the interaction popup stays even after you’re done interacting can be a little confusing
aside from that, with some extra visual flair to interactions and pickups and improved UI visuals would make this experience even better!
all in all great entry!!!
Very cool game. The art is very well made, and it has great level design. Very fun!
Okay the visuals are SO beautiful, I love the main character's design, I love the design and lighting of the map, I love the comic at the start, and even the smaller details like the main character's face changing expression when low on light.
Having to hold E to light your lantern instead of just pressing E was a good choice as it adds tension when exploring of if you'll be able to light it in time before it goes out. I've had a few instances where I just barely lit my lantern with like 0.8s left and it feels tense, very cool.
The music and sound effects are really REALLY well done, my only issue with the audio is the sound that plays when your lantern goes below 10s and starts dimming, The sound itself is really well done and sounds like something straight out of Don't Starve but it gets quite repetive, adding multiple variations of the sound would've probably fixed this and maybe making the sound play a bit later since I think it plays a bit earlier than it should.
I really enjoy the art of storytelling.
Well done overall! I tried a few times and still didn't manage to complete but i will for sure try again later. Great vibes!
Overall, a very solid entry! It was challenging and pretty spooky, it took me a few tries but I really enjoyed it the whole time!
Thanks a lot! 💜 We’re really happy you enjoyed it, even if it took a few tries 😄 That balance of challenge and spooky atmosphere is exactly what we were going for. Thanks for playing!
Really liked the art and audio! The timed interaction mechanics are great for this vibe of game and worked well with the lantern timing. Well done
Thank you so much! 💜 We’re really happy to hear the art, audio, and lantern mechanic all came together for you. That balance between atmosphere and the countdown was something we spent a lot of time on. Thanks for playing!
Nice concept that's easy to understand. I had quite a few issues with interacting with things, like keys landing directly on the candles and not showing as interactable or it just being generally finicky. But still very fun, The art and sound design created a really nice atmosphere that meshed perfectly with the candle dimming mechanic, well done!
Very nice artwork. Seeing the light of the lamp get dimmer was a nice diegetic way of showing how much time you have left. Honestly I think the game could work totally without a ui, maybe something to consider if you want to make it a full game.
I escaped :) I like the light mechanic, although it can get really dark to the point where you can't see what to do. The sound effect that plays as the light is about to run out got a little repetitive too. The art and the game loop are good and fun, although I didn't really feel scared for a horror game that much. Maybe if you added something that would stalk you, or follow you, it would bring more tension. Nice job :)
Congrats on escaping! 😄💜
Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! We really like the idea of having something stalk the player, and we’ll definitely keep it in mind if we expand the game after the jam. Thanks a lot for playing! 🥰
Cool game, I really like vibes. I get lost on the third key, it would be useful to outline interaction objects.
Quite liked this game! The concept of using the lamp as a countdown that slowly dims down is quite nice, i liked it. The only thing was that some of the fonts and UI were the default font, I would recommend next time at least changing the font to other font that is more fitting to the theme.
Thank you! 💜
We’re really glad you enjoyed the lantern mechanic!😊
You’re absolutely right about the UI and fonts. 😅 We were racing against the jam deadline, so a few placeholder elements made it into the final build. We’ll definitely polish those in future versions of the game. Thanks a lot for the feedback and for playing! 🙏💜
no worries! we all have our fair share of racing against the deadline and made a few mistakes. mine had a few bugs that we couldn't iron out
Wow this game is really fun! I love the art style! I'm not usually into horror esque games but I loved this one so much! Lovely Job guys! This is awesome!
Thank you so much! 💜 We’re really happy to hear that, especially since horror isn’t usually your thing! Thanks for playing, we’re glad you enjoyed it! 🥰
Great story! Really enjoyable and thematic journey. Good job!
Lanterns unite!
I was terrified as soon as I opened the door. The main character is definitely braver than I am!
I ran out of lantern after I found the last key and couldn't get back down to find the map! The sounds and music fit so well in the game. Great game, challenge and story!
Lanterns unite! 😂💜
Haha, our little lantern club keeps growing! We’re glad the atmosphere got you right from the start, and hearing that the audio helped sell the tension means a lot to us. Thanks so much for playing!
Yay! Part of the lantern club!
This is amazing! The visuals and the sounds/ music, all work perfectly to give it a creepy vibe. Tbh I was scared the whole time, haha. Good amount of suspense. Love this idea. Great job!
Lantern club! 😂💜
We’re really happy you enjoyed it! Hearing that the atmosphere kept you on edge the whole time is exactly what we were hoping for. Thanks for playing, and it’s always nice to meet a fellow lantern game!
Cool Game, I didnt knew where the exit was at the end and got haunted lol.
Also I didnt knew the candles relight automatically after some time in my first try.
And the music is very haunting and creepy. very fitting.
Thank you so much! 💜
Haha, getting haunted right at the end is rough 😭. Really happy you enjoyed the atmosphere and the music. Thanks for playing!
