Very creepy/fun set-up. I want to run this sometime!

Weird, gross, and fun! One of the best MB adventures I've read.
"A wheel of your favorite cheese (50sp)" is a really great treasure!!
And Besmooched is a truly horrible condition. Lots of creativity on
display here, plus evocative, clear and unpretentious writing.
This probably feels more Mork Borg-y and less Appendix N-y to me, but it's not like I've read all of Appendix N, so it's hard to pass that judgement.
Nice serviceable map and layout, I'd run this for some freaks who don't mind a nasty adventure.
thanks for reading, and the high praise! My appendix N references are things like Masque of the Red Death, and the depraved leanings of the upper crust in Lieber's Swords Agaisnt books.
That said, it's possible I turned the dial sufficiently away from those sources to merit the criticism. In any case you will indeed need to be at least medium freaky to jam with this.
Appreciate it!
This is some nasty stuff! I pictured the Lizard as a totally-Earth normal Komodo Dragon. Only its actions and behaviors make it strange. How Horrid!
I liked the relentless horror of it all, but I felt like there were opportunities missed for more edge-case revellers. Sure, the six feasters in 7. Dining Room are horrid, but it's not their fault. If five of them were besmirched, and the sixth was just keeping the party going sober, how much worse would it be?
thanks for reading! Yes, I too pictured a particularly cheeky Komodo dragon kind of guy. Something you could imagine a bunch of hired rough-necks dragging with ropes and chains out of a cave. And that's a great note about pretend-revelers, I'm definitely using that when I run this and/or flesh it out to a slightly larger zine.
I’ll be honest: when I read about a group of posh people pursuing their “base pleasures” I thought this would go into a completely other direction.
A fine house dungeon full of rather disturbing surprises. You’ll need a group up for the themes (triggers?) in it, but I recognize it could be lot of fun.
Well written and laid out, as well!
This is top notch, the adventure is wild and looks like a lot of fun. The retreating and law of attraction mechanics the lizard uses seem like a fun way to integrate the titles namesake, and that cover art is incredible!
Delightfully creepy and made me look to see if “besmooched” is an actual word. It’s freaky, the best kinda freaky.
Solid layout with skillful use of text emphasis to aid reference. Love ‘besmooched’ and ‘unsmooched’ as states. Great use of colour blocks for room descriptions and stats. Map could’ve used an element to denote locked areas as well as a couple rooms (9) lacked a note in their description on being locked (one has to recall there is a key elsewhere). Can’t beat a gross manor-crawl, very Mörk Borgian but it doesn't feel very Appendix N to me.
Thanks for the read and thorough review! Honest question: what does it lack in Appendix N characteristics? I think I get what you mean, but I would argue this is going for more Gothic Horror than Sword and Sorcery. Or Conan when he has to deal with the depravity of the rich and powerful.
Solid crit, again, thanks!
Valid questions. True, the Appendix N can be viewed through a relatively broad lens but I defaulted to what the jam lists under Theme: Retro-vibes, concepts from weird fiction & science fantasy, elements from old stories, etc. I did get a Masque of the Red Death vibe (decadent nobles partying during a perceived end times) but I think at least for me because it ended up feeling so on-point for Mörk Borg it didn't feel appropriate for anything else?
