A reverse dungeon, at last! Just this sells me this submisison. I also like how the text is dm facing, it could help a lot. One would need quite aprep to run this, the text leads the way
Love how shady the Baron is implied to be, and that there’s a lot of modularity in what the “prized possession” could be- also big props on the play on the words in the title, in that not only are there thieving ‘daggers’ in the ‘dark’ of the manor, but that the players too are “in the dark” about just what the hell they’re supposed to be defending in the first place lol. Good work!
I like the premise and gameability of this, especially the flexibility it affords the GM. It's so striped down to its essentials, you can modify it for any setting and time period. Honestly, I thought the party were the thieves. Imagine my surprise when actual thieves show up. Great work.
I like the setup and the randomness a lot. Also the treasures make a lot of sense, the module is clearly written, the map is quite small and I think you should offer a bigger one without the numbers on the product page as it seems quite important to have it on the [digital] table.
I like the zine a lot.
All in all I’m concerned it is too ‘easy’. With four players the group can man the important entrances. My players would just grab everything and place it near to another. If they even got hints beforehand they would man that station with everything they’ve got.
I think there need to by some railings (Hope that’s the correct term) why some optimizations would not works: “Noone can be in Petunia’s room, are you mad?”, “I cannot sleep if there’s noise.”, “The flower would loose their petals if moved inside.”, ….
Of course I can be wrong and this has already been playtested and the hints for the players make this doable in the first place :-D
For starters I'm happy you got a PERFECT title that fits right in! Daggers in the dark sounds fitting for a defense scenario the story is great and the mansion is great too. One thing I think it needs to be added, since this is a system agnostic scenario, I would prefer a few things 1. give us the stat blocks for the thieves 2. get some brief description about the theives (are they villagers who needed money to survive? were they rivals against another baron? or are they just like home alone bandits in a comedic silly way. ) 3 some examples of difficulty checks or any traps with dcs that you can throw in. 4. As for the theif tactics I do wished they have different plan routes and different tactics like they can split up to make the baron being paranoid or they would run away if they get spotted etc.
Overall, I love this heist that can be fun and a great way to start a campaign out of it. Do keep it up though!
You really got a cool title to work with! I am so envious... I really enjoyed the core plot and atmosphere! The open setup with the mystery target (paired with the Baron’s paranoia and Petunia’s skepticism) makes for such a fun, dynamic defense scenario.
That said, as written, it's missing a few elements to make it table-ready, IMHO: there are no stat blocks for the thieves, nor any skill check DCs provided. I understand it's system agnostic, but please give me something to work on: are these thieves cruel, efficient war-machines, or total goofballs? Also their tactic is a bit bland: it states they take the shortest path to their target, but there are no guidelines on how they react if spotted (do they flee, fight to the death, or take hostages?)
Overall, it's a creative and dynamic heist module,
It's a great setup. I haven't seen this almost "reverse heist" before but I think it would make a great scenario.
The writing is really succinct, and comes together well with the map. I like the suggestions for the aftermath - this could be a one-shot but just as well could waterfall into a short campaign
Excellent map and idea with the title! Hooray for mansion entries!
Cool cover, I can see this being a cool weird job the players take on for some coin
The manor room descriptions and layout is very well done, as is the writing in general! I think you might be erring on the side of being too obvious with the hints towards his true prized possession, but I could see that more subtle hints could be difficult to include for all 8 possible targets.
Great cover. You did a nice job with the floorplans and whatnot too.
i love the mystery in this one!
