Very legible and polished graphic design! I'm definitely stealing the simple hex map idea next time I make a HMtW dungeon for this sort of thing. Questing for details to compose a story is also a very novel, though I do wish there was a bit more clarity on what physical remains count towards the things known. The graveyard Stag is a fantastic boss, and I love how the horror of it's immortality is woven into all it's decriptions.
Noticed a few typos, the most important of which are probably on the first page, Hook 1"wishes to have a grand lay {play?} composed in his honour." Faction: Ser Berk "Brek is charming but amiral {amoral?}" but there are more scattered throughout. I wouldn't normally even point that out for a game jam, but considering how early you got it in might be worth it to proofread more next time.
A lay is a lyrical, narrative poem written in octosyllabic couplets. Amiral, on the other hand, is definitely a typo that I and my crew of pirate editors missed somehow.
Huh that's a new one for me, I did look it up but missed that line in Webster. My apologies to you and your pirates!
No apologies needed, the presence of a a few other typos made it very possible.
This looks like something you need to pay 80$ at a hobby store. Amazing art, layout and delivery!
This is really polished. I love the rewards table and how it motivates player to explore more and get to the truth. And I also love the truth table and how it's presented in order. It's like playing as a detective and uncovering the crimes of the past but in this case, we're uncovering the death of Ser Koschel. Terrific stuff and a great dungeon design to boot. Looking forward to you next creation!
Thanks! I just wanted to say that Exploding Congee is a magnificent user name. Kudos.
This is an awesome premise, I immediately wanted to include it in my BFRPG campaign. I love the theme of collecting a story while still keeping the danger and adventure.
Wow, excellent. Investigation mechanics on top of clever one-hex map design with factions, varying terrain, a quest, and more. I've read 30 or so entries so far and this one showed me multiple things I haven't seen yet. Well done.
Incredibly well done across the board. Especially impressed with the layout.
I adore the "things known" mechanic, I'm sure you can write a heap of adventures (or an entire system) surrounding it. It neatly ties together the history of this place with its current situation. And you've managed to have that current situation be dynamic as well!
And that's not even mentioning the layout, which is very effective and easy to process / reference. Would love to see more work like this :)
You've perfectly captured the feeling of an epic quest. This was a fun read!
Also Ser Brek is a great NPC who I'd love to portray as a GM.
This is a really classy module. Starts with a really good, compelling premise and gives you everything you need to run it, with lots of fun twists and extra little ideas and narrative hooks that never overwhelm or make things feel messy. The writing is restrained and efficient but still packed with flavour. Excellent.
I absolutely adore the work that went into organizing information and making certain sections stand out and be easy to keep track of. The dark and light purples and greens are immensely satisfying to look at. The way flavor text is differentiated from game text is pleasant and easy to read. The general setup as well as each individual bit of prose is lovely. Fantastic work.
Thanks! I do love layout. Anyone who wants to do better layout should take a really hard look at Johan Nohr's work on Into the Odd Remastered. Simply magnificent.
The cover art is sick, I love how you make Sir Brek faction to be battered everytime PCs meet them. When I read that I instantly thinking of an arrogant knight that undermine the PCs at the first meeting then gradually desperate and seek PCs help. Also the description of the Graveshroud Stag sounds eerie and it sends a chill down my spine. What a wonderful adventure.
Wow. You managed to pack a ton of content into your pages. It feels full to the brim, but doesn't significantly hamper readability. The way you present the mechanics of the crawl and navigating through the forest is really well done. I've never played Shadowdark, but I feel pretty confident that I could run this without much issue.
Great submission.
The writing is amazingly on theme; I loved the overdramatic naming, very fitting for appendix n. The prose is great and the layout is wonderous! Visually very amazing as well! 10/10
A lovely and dense hexcrawl that is easy to read and offers hours of gameplay. Nicely done! I love the ghostly knights element and how they reveal parts of the story.
Excellent work! A lot of material packed into a small space. I loved how the descriptions have just the right amount of information, nothing is superfluous or lacking. The map design is also very concise, useful, and functional. I'm definitely going to run it!
dude this rules! the idea of collecting elements of a story as bards is genius, and i'd love to run this! my one question is about the number of things known at the beginning. i didn't see where it said how much you know, nor how much you *can* know by the end. maybe i missed it, but either way, amazing work!
Thanks! The baseline for things known is zero, although I don't think that was made explicit at any point. There's no practical ceiling but there is an implied cap via the rewards mechanic. I think the players should have as much fun a s possible putting the story together.
ty for the clarification! this is a brilliant adventure. excited for what you do next!
I've got a bunch of stuff on Itch already, mostly for my Shadowdark setting Shadows of Empire. I'm currently working on a city supplement for that as well as several other projects (probably too many, but oh well).
Oh my God, this is all screaming to be played! I like how the objective is to uncover the true story, makes it more like chivalric romances.
I'm a big fan of the "Things Known" mechanic! I'm impressed with everything you managed to fit into these 4 pages.
clear and easy to read, both from text and visual perspective. things known is a fresh mechanic, and absolutely beautiful
The absolute genius to manage the tight, effective layout while managing to craft evocative prose is what ultimately made my experience so pleasant reading this. This adventure is solid, every tool to help the GM run the adventure smoothly while still keeping some areas open for interpretation. The hexmap is deceptively brilliant, and each room is uniquely written. My highest praise goes to you. Bravo!
