I've uploaded a dev build of 0.5.2 which was exported with a custom version of Godot that includes a pull request that possibly fixes the dreaded mic bug, where audio is heard but not recorded.

If your mic hasn't been working in previous versions of The Choicer Voicer, please try out this dev build and let me know whether or not it's fixed.

It works really well for me!

For both version 0.5.2 and 0.5.1, my mic works fine in these 2 modes since I don't use Twitch (Standard Gameshow, Freestyle Dub Mode). Only the Dub Mode does not work, and I can record and hear myself in the Mic Test.  It worked fine for me in Dub Mode on July 9th and earlier on July 27. But later that day it didn't work anymore and has continued until now.

P.S: Actually, if I had recorded lines then at the end of Dub Mode I can hear it. But during the recording, playing back your voice does not work.

If you're saying that you can't hear your recording during Dub Mode when clicking "hear clip again", that's intentional. It's just to hear the clip again. As the description for the mode says in-game: "You can re-record as many times as you wish in this mode, but you cannot hear your recordings until the dub is complete."

Out of curiosity, why is there that limitation?

It works for me

It works but when i dub the game crash

same, have you figured out a fix for this?

Works now for me!

this one didnt work for me as i am trying to play back the recordings and i can only hear the backing track and not the dubbed over lines

Is this a standalone or a patch?

Developer

A standalone download. It's another version release. It's not the final version of 0.5.2, but an in-progress one.

Oh okay, thanks! I just wondered, as the new version is about 100MB less in size

Developer

Ah, that test build only has the Compatibility version for the sake of testing. The other builds include both standard and Compatibility

Both modes showed the exact same file size so what's the difference between the 2

I downloaded it and it shows my mic pick up audio but Its silent after. I tested it in the settings and silent. also all the clips I dubbed are silent now when they had audio yesterday. its like the next day everything stopped working and still wont no matter what I try ;-;

Developer

The bug in the Godot Engine is specifically with *recording* not working. The mic works, and can pick up sound, but it fails to record properly. So you're saying that yesterday, it was recording properly, and now it's not? And you were using the same game version (which, btw?) and same audio setup?

I was using the 0.5.1 Stable EXE. I found out I could fix it though if I deleted everything completely and reinstalled everything tho

Report with Specs: Compatibility build on Windows 11 using an Elgato Wave XLR Mk.2, Elgato Wave DX microphone, Logitech G733 Lightspeed headset with USB receiver, and Elgato Wave Link updated to the latest version. In version 0.5.1, my microphone was detected correctly. The waveform animated, the playback progress bar moved normally, and the "live microphone" feature worked. However, whenever I clicked "hear recording," I couldn't hear my recorded voice, both in the microphone settings test and during gameplay. To troubleshoot, I tried both the normal and compatibility versions of 0.5.1, updated Wave Link, completely closed Wave Link including the Wave Link SE service, bypassed Wave Link entirely, verified my Windows input and output devices, and tested with both my Wave DX and Logitech G733 headset microphones. The issue remained the same regardless of microphone or third-party audio software. After installing the 0.5.2-dev2 compatibility build, the issue was immediately resolved. "Hear recording" now plays back correctly, and both "live microphone" and in-game recording playback work as expected. Thanks for putting together this test build—it fixed the microphone playback issue on my system.

Developer

I appreciate the detailed report 馃 Great to hear this test build is solving the issue for some people!

When I record it myself, there is a delay from when I speak and when the game picks it up, is this a game issue or is my mic the issue? (Version 0.5.1, Fifine Brand Microphone)

It's not working ):

The default setting for audio input does not seem to work on my computer. There is no indication that anything is being recording and no output sound. I am just using the microphone in my ASUS Zenbook laptop. When I attempt to switch to my Realtek(R) microphone, the app stops responding and I'm stuck with a spinning blue wheel. This sounds a little different than the issues others are experiencing. Excited to play this game!

There's one more issue if you'd like to look into... Whenever you try to re-record/record a part during the dub, the game tends to crash suddenly.

I've paid to play this game for fun, but it keeps freezing my whole pc and the only fix is to reboot it. if dev will see it, how can it be fixed? I cannot enjoy your creation cuz its stutters and then my pc is a brick man.

its not working in both options. i want my money back...

Its brand new and only 5$ chill out. I hope they block you from future purchase.

It worked for me for a few seconds.

I have a fifine mic and every time I go to test record, it shows the wavelength of my voice but I cant  hear the play back. When I do live mic I can hear myself through the speakers but I cant hear myself from the playbacks. I'm not sure what im messing up here. Any tips aside from the google searched tip would be appreciated.

If you have surround sound capable device, in your windows sound settings double click your playback device, go to advanced and change it to 2 channel audio. It's not a mic issue it's apparently a playback issue with godot not playing well with surround.

When I change the in game audio output to a different output, press record, then switch back to my speakers I can hear the audio play back, but when I leave it on the correct audio output and try to record I dont hear myself. I want to try this so bad. Please help me

0.5.2-dev2 works for me wtih surround enabled while the previous version didn't. So the fix to the engine helped with my setup.
