How do creators feel about youtubers posting about their games?

Hi! Sorry if this is an overasked question but I couldn't really find a straight answer. I wanted to start posting youtube videos about some of the games I played but I want to ask first about the general idea on people posting their games on youtube. I've seen some people say that they enjoy seeing someone post about their game and play it while others may say that it feels for someone to post about their game. Also, I wanted to know if there are any general rules I should follow if I do post about a game or if there is anything I should do beforehand before posting about it. Thank you for reading! P.S: I'm sorry if I put this in the wrong section, I wasn't sure where else this should go.

Regarding my games, I'm fine with someone uploading a video to YouTube, but I would like them to request permission beforehand so I know to watch it. As No Time To Play said, it can be a mixed experience; in my case, it often was negative, which is why I'm rather reserved about it.

I can understand that. If you don't mind me asking, do you know of any way I can ask the creator for permission beforehand? I haven't been able to find any options on itch.io to message them privately one-on-one. Is it similar to just putting out a community post, or are there other ways I can communicate?

If the creator hasn't left an email publicly, you can write to them in the comments below one of their games. If you want to contact me, you can write to me at criacuervos at bluewin dot ch (I write it so as to prevent spam). My timezone is Europe.

It only happened to me a couple of times: once as part of a jam coverage, where my game happened to be first in rotation, and was pretty well received for what it was; the other time, as a random find by a YouTuber who didn’t understand a thing, and when pressed all but admitted not reading the 150 words of instructions below the game window before playing.

So it can be a mixed experience, but overall? It’s free publicity either way! Not going to complain.

i think its nice if someone makes a video of my game

but would like to know about it so i can view it :D

i also dont like if people talk bad about my games in the video .. if they dont like the game then dont make video of it

I'm really happy if a youtuber records gameplay video of my games. It's nice to know someone is enjoying my games.

That being said, if you have released your games to be played by people on the Internet (free or paid), some people including youtubers who have played any of your games might post video about them. If you don't want bad press, make sure your games are good and fun to play.

Hey, go for it! The more the merrier.

In fact, why don’t you take a look at ours so far? They’re free! : D

Thank you for the advice! I'll make sure to check out your games!!

Cheers. Link us your YouTube channel. :p

It's only happened once, as far as I know, but it's fun to see someone try something I've made, and share it with others! (So feel free to take a look! :) )

Hi mate!

My game has only been out for a short while and only two YouTubers have streamed it so far. To be honest, I found it really funny to see how the games played out, even though I reckon one of them didn’t quite get the game’s mechanics. 😅

By the way, what’s your YouTube channel?
