That's a really cool and fitting idea! It would definitely be even more fun if I weren't so bad at it :)

Very smart mechanic. You have to understand your ship trajectory (by science or by instinct) in order to beat this game. I didn't though. But given more time, i want to come back to this game again to beat it. Nice concept, nice use of physic. Can be used for stand alonge game or part of a large game. Gud luck.

Really had fun, and I was a bit scared, but it worked lmao.

I think the concept of utilizing gravity in the main mechanic was something I really wanted to see, and I think the game nails it on that front. The concept is simple, using the rocket player, it allows to go in and out and try to reach certain points, which is really good for a game loop. From there it's just rockets and yeah.

The general atmosphere and vibe I really dig, as it felt like a lone survivor in space tasked to save something while risking peril. All you have is your controls, map, fuel, and speed, and have a good plan to not screw it up. The color scheme is well done in that scene, and I liked the sound effects and dynamic intensity on the music. It's well made and well done!

Some thoughts on strategy:

The only thing I noticed is that it kind of led into basically, you have to start with as much kinetic energy as you can so you can get in and out quickly and penalizes staying too long within the region as you start to lose control and your motion is not orbit but just falling down (Not, that its a bad thing, its just a consequence of it), but I do kinda wish there was some way to incentivize being in orbit for a bit longer as you try to dance and spiral, as it allows for the player to engage with the black hole much more and really test the fuel.

Something I thought but uncertain that may or may not work is something else orbiting around the blackhole, and you could try hyper speed aiming onto it (hard), or set your trajectory such that it matches the orbit so that you would reach it eventually. But this could be hard to do or even incentivize (especially with the seemingly drag like mechanics if the red is current trajectory w/o drag into account), so I'm not exactly pushing but it's one idea of many.

After that lil thought, the extra objectives are a nice thing to have much more challenge and out their goals to really test the player. I haven't done it mainly because I think I'm spent on the adrenaline but it's a nice add. A scoring system and the end screen was a nice touch.

Overall great game! Thank you for submitting to the game jam!

Thank you so much for playing! I'm glad to say we share a lot of beliefs about the game and the direction I wanted it to go in, I'm just not experienced enough as a game designer haha! I'm also really happy to hear you enjoyed the atmosphere of the game, It was something I felt was very important to match the theme of the jam. I really loved playing your game so I'm glad to hear you enjoyed mine : D

Love the concept but a little too difficult to start I think.  Great submission!

Tysm!

I think the game could be improved a lot by making the trajectory preview account for the gravitational pull!

Developer(+1)

It does account for grav, but I think whats wrong is it doesnt account for the players angular velocity (maybe?) It was something I ran out of time on sadly haha. Thanks for your feedback!

Super awesome game but dang it's soooo hard, i really like it, it's really on theme to navigate around a black hole like that, i think it's awesome

Developer(+1)

Tysm! Just wish I had balanced it more, sorry about that haha

Thanks!

This has great potential! The physics work really well and are super responsive, it’s very satisfying figuring out the balance to move around. A small thing is that, with itch’s ui I often get all the follow/jam/rate/etc labels right above the top right corner of the game, so I kinda missed the radar at first was surprised when I got pulled towards the black hole - I think visual cues like the background darkening could make it more readable overall!

Developer

Appreciate it! Im so sorry about the ui issue, this is my first time actually publishing a game so I'm not too familar with some of the quirks, regardless I actually really like the idea of having like a cool black  hole shader and if I could go back I think I wouldve prioritised the visuals abit more since as you said yourself it would make the game ALOT more readable. But again ty and I love your art!

the idea is very unique and cool, though very difficult :0 !

Developer

Tysm, honestly just wish I had tested it with some other people to adjust the difficulty someone even told me I had created a rage game (I loved ur game a lot btw and I cant believe you said it was your first jam!)

I mean I personally like games with a challenge! though I wonder about everyone else...

and also thank you very much for checking my game out I really appreciate it! :)

Developer(+1)

np! It was a blast :D

Reminded me of Kerbal Space Program satelites rendezvous, physics works very well, except like near the hole - dont know why orbit doesnt keep, but i guess thats kinda right. Love the game!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Its infuriating right? I tried soo hard to fix that and ran out of time haha. My friends kept telling me they didnt notice anything but I sure did I'm glad someone agrees - ty for the kind words tho!

Submitted(+1)

Good job there :D

I really like the fuel system and having to balance preserving fuel to escape to the refuel zone vs actually getting to satellites. It was pretty difficult to pull this off, but it was satisfying once I did it.

Developer

Tysm! Glad you liked it

Submitted(+1)

this is very cool, If I could change one thing, I’d make the satellites a little bigger, because I often found that it appeared I was lined up perfectly with both the arrow, and the map, and I’d just miss them and then lose my fuel backtracking

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah, I think the backtracking is one of the more annoying things in this game so I quite like the idea of making them easier to hit.

Okay, so heres the how the game is.

The theme:

matches pretty good! The spaceships like its single.

The Fun:

I will say it’s fun. It was fun and hard, but pretty fun.

Art:

It’s not bad, but i will say it could improve some parts, but it’s good enough.

Mechanics:

It’s nice i liked the idea, where you have to save fuel and focus on not getting inside of black hole. This is best category.

Sound:

Not bad, it has music and sound effects, but for me you don’t need to change it, but i will say i would make it i bit more retro, but it’s my opinion.

Overall:

nice good the thing is it’s i really liked the mechanics i think it’s the best out of all categorys.

Feedback:

Make it a ui, where i can see how many i collect at top left so i know.

Maybe make the sound more retro or more aggresive it’s my opinion you don’t have to you can keep it if you liked it.

Developer(+1)

Tysm! I didnt even think of showing a collection UI, definitely something I shouldve done as it makes it easier on the player. Thanks for the feedback and good words, I appreciate it!
