Textures and objects are fairly well designed. I liked the addition of cutscenes to show where the player needed to go, and changing enemy location requiring the player to move around to reach the enemies. Having the simply ground pound the enemies could be a bit repetitive, but I found it fine enough for the length of the game.
The first thing I have to say, and something you can pretend is repeated between every following sentence of this review is that the ground pound is SO satisfying. Sounds, particles, and camera movement all come together in a way that feels incredible. Beyond that, the camera cutaways were jarring. They took me out of character in a way that broke up the otherwise satisfying combat. The art direction was a little lacking, with no clear style that stood out to me, but certain bits (ie the fridge) were visually enticing. The sound of the legumes was grating after a while, and the combat felt a bit repetitive, but that ground pound was worth it every time.
It is 3am and instead of going to sleep I am playing Succulent Hams Engaging Lethal Legumes.
Anyway the gameplay is decent, would love to have a bit more move variety, but the premise is fun and it's just generally a humorous game.
I will never see legumes the same way after this...
If you wanted to add more to this game one small thing I'd suggest is a cooldown to the ground pound. I honestly just spammed it the entire time and wrecked everything.
Overall, it's very fun to mess around in!
Love the ground slam it feels so satisfying to use! The title is pretty interesting.
wow the sound that plays when you walk is really gross. love the game feel of the ground pound!!
this was genuinely funny to play through! love the use of the acronym for the theme as well as the cartoonish style to the ✨succulent✨ ham.
i have a few notes that could make this experience even better:
• there should either be a way to change how the ground pound controls or at least an alternative keybinding for it. i say this mainly for the sake of accessibility—sometimes the Control key can be awkward to reach for some people!
• the music and sound are difficult to hear, even at full system volume. it was quiet to the point where i almost thought there was nothing at all. definitely try to tweak the audio settings around in-engine to make things more audible!
• when just starting the game, there’s a huge lag spike once the first wave spawns in. it didn’t cause too many other issues later down the line, but i think it would still be worth taking a look at just in case!
