First of all, the pages LOOK great. A task I typically fail at lol. And I love "connection-driven world." I really love character-driven narrative games (Life is Strange is a fantastic example), but I feel "connection-driven world" describes it so much better.

In addition to loving the font and pages, the concept (food is magic, and soup especially, so soup witches are VERY fitting!), the way the players work together, the prompts and examples, etc... I especially love the mechanic of rolling for soup success. It's very well chosen. 3 poor ingredients cannot be a complete success, but 3 moderate ingredients can. And 3 excellent ingredients cannot be a failure. It's very elegant, I could see using that system in all sorts of games, honestly (combine 3 items, roll d4/d6/d8+2, get success/failure with those specific results). Even if you wouldn't make an SRD for Soup Witches as a whole, I could totally see that being one. But I do think an SRD on the whole game would be awesome. :D

I did notice a handful of small grammatical errors (like "answer following questions about" on page 4, the left side, rather than "answer the following questions about" and "Even if you don’t think have enough suitable ingredients" at the top of page 6). But, especially in a 72-hour jam, grammatical errors are practically impossible to avoid lol. And since you said you'd like to expand on this game, I really hope you do 🙌

This is such an wonderful cozy game, and the layout and font are so lovely and add to vibes <3

I had so much fun playing this solo that I kept going even after the four rounds ended! I played until I started repeating too many prompts, and it got silly for me with my epidemic of villagers getting lost and scared stargazing LOL

I really, really enjoyed the character, town, and home creation. That really got me into my witchy character and her magic-touched werewolfy husband, and it made their home almost feel like a character too. It had a history, it had special magical quirks. I also had fun coming up with special facts about the village. It gave the setting some very nice personality.

Growing and cooking felt so cozy, and gaining upgrades felt special. I really liked that it created a relationship with the villagers I helped. The affects of each ingredient let me get really creative and wholesome in how I helped people.

My first villager had a duel at dawn against a fencing master who had insulted his sister, and because my ingredients weren't exactly the kind to help someone win at fencing, I helped instead facilitate peace and had them both sit down and eat the soup (I convinced the fencing master that it was a very serious tradition for two duelists to share soup together before a duel at dawn--Not doing so would have angered the fey or spirits). My villager and the fencing master ended up laughing and admitting they were both wrong--the fencing master shouldn't have insulted the villager's sister, and the villager shouldn't have challenged him to a duel in public. In the end the fencing master gave the villager a swordsmanship lesson. And the crowd that had gathered for the duel was very confused LOL

I had other really good moments too, but I don't want to inundate you with all of them xD

Well done! And I can't wait to see how you expand it! Thanks for submitting and sharing!

So many awesome kitchen witch games. I like that progression is a feature while not overwhelming the focus on the storytelling aspects. I'd like it if the narrative had a little more shape, some ultimate goal that helping or not helping the townsfolk built toward, but maybe the process can be enough (I'm used to victory conditions in games so I'm not sure what to do without one, lol). The layout on this is very nice too; it has the exact right soothing feel.

Thank you for the feedback! And I completely agree about the end goal situation; originally I wanted the game to build toward something (a special event, town festival, etc.), but I ran out of time to come up with something that felt satisfying and not tacked on at the end. Definitely something I want to revisit and figure out how to incorporate in a post-jam version of the game.

The gameplay mechanic where one player essentially leads the story while the other mainly plays their role reminds me of the Cue System. I enjoy that it is fleshed out more through use of playing cards, dice, and multiple tables. Also reminded me a bit of Koriko mixed with Apothecaria.

Well done!

This is such a quaint and cozy read. It’s well thought out and I can see this being fun with a group or solo. It has a nice depth to it while still feeling very accessible to new (to roleplaying) players. I like the casual prompts that inspire world building without needing character sheets, and your clever way around having a gm. You also did a great job with fully embracing the theme of cooking. Lovely game.

I'm totally enamored with this game! The concept is cute and magical and the game mechanics do a really great job of involving the whole group in the worldbuilding and roleplay. It's complicated enough to make things interesting without being bogged down by too many details or dice.

This is a really lovely game. The world building questions do a really good job of framing the tone and the gameplay sequence is really easy to grasp , it's amazing how good of a structure you built in 72 hours.
