OMG LOL I was reading through this and nearly cracked up laughing when I read "You will always have an infinite amount of whisks as there was a sale and they were practically giving them away."
While I haven't been able to play the game (sadly, I'm finally checking the games out with about 12 hours to go before the end of the rating period lol, and haven't been able to play any), the game looks very difficult. That's not a bad thing, don't get me wrong. It, along with the equipment, the art on the cover, and the blend of high-energy and excitement, feel a lot like NES-era JRPGs. Hard as heck, lots of grinding, and you feel accomplished as heck when you win! That's the vibe I get here: working at it until you get it right, then kicking some butt.
And hey, way to make it into a zine! Bonus points for that for sure 🙌

This is a delightful combination of themes! Time to eat monsters! The rules were explained well, with a fun amount of detail and depth. This looks really fun to play!
You have the basic game loop, though I agree that the odds are a little wonky and it feels like equipment breaks a bit too easily. I think the game would really shine with a few more varied recipes and/or things to do with ingredients you don't need (maybe sell them in a shop to get some better equipment?) I love the vibe; baking monsters into cakes is a fun premise that I'm definitely down with.
You fit so much into this mini zine! A baking/monster hunter mash up is such a fun idea. I like that the mechanics actually feel like a battle. It’s a challenge to get to those sweet sweet treats and triumph in your bundt baking. Nicely done.

I like the integration of being a knight and a cook! The closest game to me about it would be Breath of the Wild, I would really like to battle and collect things to make food more than any quests 😂😂 I think the game would really benefit of an expansion so we can explore in more detail each section ✨✨ Nice game, good work 💕💕
I love the concept. I think the idea of fighting monsters with kitchen utensils to cook bundt cakes is fantastic. I also noticed the connection to Monster Hunter right away lol I appreciate that. I could definitely see you building this out into something bigger. You fit a lot of mechanics into a small space--which can be really tough to do. I think you did a nice job with that! I had some a couple questions come up as I played, but I decided to just do what felt like I was keeping in the spirit of the game.
I'm used to Dark Souls difficulty lol But to make sure I could play through and give feedback, I just modified the dice mechanics to help me along. It took several attempts (I kept botching things at the cooking phase), but I did eventually make a Gugelhupf Gargoyle Bundt Cake!
I did a lot of grinding for that cake and went through a lot of Wyvern Whisks. I like to imagine it was the most delicious bundt cake ever! xD
Like I said above, I could really see you building this out into a bigger game, having tables for loot, weapons, and other stuff. It could totally work solo or multiplayer if you ever expanded it :D I'd personally love to see more with the monsters and also with the cooking part. Those parts made the game feel really unique.
The art is great, and the font was very complementary. Very cool work. Thanks for sharing it <3
Thank you for the comments!
I did a fair amount of manipulation on the font and thumbnail layout, as well as the cover (missing the dinosaur completely; I thought it was just a large red lizard monster). With it being based on the Capcom IP, I have concerns about making the game too much larger, but will make edits in the near future to replace the unbalanced parts of the game.
I’m glad that you pushed through with your own “house rules”. I think part of the fun in solo roleplaying is getting to go against the initial rules sometimes to play how you want rather than what was intended fully. And, great job on getting to the Gugelhupf Gargoyle Bundt Cake (little Easter egg—The initials are “GG”, as in “good game” as I was hoping players would enjoy the experience and have fun)!
I might look into making the game larger, but for now I want to focus away from it and return at a later time. I have a project that I have been working off and on for a few years, and want to make sure I avoid issues that arose with this entry.
Glad you had a great time! 😁
Ah, what an interesting little game. There are definitely some rough spots and I agree with @AxalKay that the probabilities aren't quite right but there's a lot of potential as well. I think you capture the tone of a anime subplot or JRPG cooking side quest well and the presentation is lovely , so with an adjustment or two to the odds to make success a bit more possible you'd have a fun mini game that would fit very naturally into a fantasy campaign.
Thank you! It is supposed to be a play on the “Monster Hunter” line of video games, and I was expecting that to be more noticeable to gamers, but I must have made it less aware of this. And, yes. After AxalKay showed his dislike and pointed out the flaws of the game, I will definitely take that into account in future games.
Thanks for commenting! 😁
Okay. I don't get it. I am going to assume the monsters are evil and I need to fight them to save the world. How do I know which monster I am fighting? Why make cakes? Just why? The odd of rolling 11 or higher on three D4 is 6%. And I need to do this three times to beat one monster. The odds of rolling 9 or higher is 31% The odds of rolling 8 or higher is 50%. Assuming I had to roll 9 or higher the game would still not be interesting, because I never got to make a meaningful choice. I must forage, I must fight a monster, I must roll three D4, I must bake something if able. If I did beat the impossible odds and beat all the monsters then what? This is not a game it is a chore.
The art is nice. :)
A T-rex with tiny arms never seen that before. I am sorry I hate this game. Don't let it get you down. As they say "Cling against the torment. Fight with all you know. Don't let go. Just grow."
Thank you for the criticism! It is greatly appreciated!
You bring up some great points. With the constraints of the game jam, I was doing a lot of implementing of different mechanics, and in trying to create, combine, and explain it all, some of it made it to the cutting room floor.
Who knows? Maybe I will revisit it again in the future to improve the game, or maybe I will learn from this submission and make stronger games in the future.
I do love the fact that you hate this game. You are the first commenter to openly tell me how much you hate it and in great detail. Thank you for that! It helps a lot!
Glad I could help. :)
Hi there! I haven't checked out Monster Cake Bundter yet, but I was made aware of a social media post about a negative comment and found this.
The rules for the jam state: "If you choose to leave comments, please keep things positive and uplifting
". And while there are some solid points here, the overall comment is not positive and uplifting. Specifically, "This is not a game it is a chore" and "I hate this game" are especially not positive or uplifting. If you'd like to point out critique, please do it as gently as possible, and if you have harsh feedback, ask if someone wants to hear it first.
You've been a wonderful part of our community for a long time, and I consider you a friend :D I'm always delighted to see what you create. You probably don't realize that reading these things as a creator can be very discouraging and hurtful. I gave up as a video game creator in part due to negative comments and feedback, and it's very important to us that the comments and feedback for our jams remain positive and uplifting.
