Themes
Didn't use any. I had the idea for this game a few months back and have been saving it. :)

*** BONUS PRIZE!!! ***
If you finish this game with the secret treasure, show me a screencap of the ending and I'll mail you a fabulous* prize (in real life).
What's the secret treasure, you ask? It's a secret! You'll have to explore for it.
Need a hint? There's one hidden somewhere else in this jam.

[*] Prizes will not be all that fabulous. Probably a sticker or button from my upcoming game.

Tooling
My own engine Egg.

It has some interesting mechanics, but couldn't make it to 10 cards, not sure if I was just unlucky, kept trading cards mostly. Made it to 8 cards and wasn't sure if opponents will keep spawning. The world felt interesting, just unfortunate I couldn't get to 10 to unlock the next area.

As for the engine, there is some weirdness going on. Took forever to load and in mac firefox it kept freezing my browser. Took about 2 minutes to load half freezing and half responsive.

Thanks for the report, sorry to hear about these performance problems. Is that an ARM Mac? I’ve tested in Mac Firefox, but only on Intel (a 2019-ish iMac). The engine uses WebAssembly extensively, so totally possible that there’s some kind of weirdness that would only surface on ARM.

yes its an M4. It does load eventually, but while it does it feels like it may not make it... :)

The perfect game for a jam, not very difficult, not very long, and very cute. And yet not too simple — it made brain work a bit. In general, I really liked it!

I made it to 36 cards, solid handle on the gameplay, just working my way through. Went to check out Node Stream — and that's how I discovered there's no saved game. I suppose the cards win this round. Okay, seriously though — it's a super neat concept! I like the nuance to the card duels, having to tactically sacrifice cards to see what an opponent has, and swapping cards that you know you can win back, etc. It's neat! Well done.

Pretty great game! I like how you went with class Zelda lack of handholding, it kind of reminds me of my entry in that way! I liked how the character moved like classic Pokémon that was fun too see as well! Great game!

Cute game!

I like the idea with the card battles and trading. I haven't been patient enough to play until the end but I think I got a grasp of what the game could be if I took more time. And I really like the background art!

I would have liked an in-game tutorial for the duel rules. It was fun to figure out tactics once I understood what was happening though!

The game has cozy vibes, and interesting gameplay. Well done!

Very interesting game . Not sure I have fully figured it out yet haha. Lots of mechanics! Congrats on the submission!

Very nice, calming vibes.  I didn't get to the end, but it felt like the primary strategy was to play low cards, remember which ones swapped over to your opponent, then play high versions of those suits.  If there is more depth to the mechanics, it might be good to nudge the player towards that, but I enjoyed vibing out and clearing out the first couple of islands.

Nice work overall, very cohesive!

I'm still not sure if I have the best tactic figured out, but it got easier after a while =)

Like the cute art and the cozy feel of it.

Congrats on your submission!

Took a few tries and reading the tutorial to get the hang of it, but it's really cool! It'd be even more intuitive with clearer prompts on card wins and losses.

It turned out realy fun and cute. I certainly couldn't fully grasp the mechanics of the battle, but I think I got it.

Really interesting card-dueling mechanics, especially how duels feed directly into building out your deck! There’s definitely far more strategic depth (and memory to remember which cards you lost to a particular duelist) here than the cozy vibes suggest at first glance. Nice work!

I like games with secrets, I’ll have to come back and give it another go! gg

Okay, I did it. It was fun.

I spent an hour on it... and the game is simple.

Congrats and thanks for playing! I see you found the secret treasure. If you’d like a real-life prize mailed to you, hit me up in Discord (aksommerville, same as here)

Thank you.
I’m from Russia, so it’s better if someone finds someone who can deliver it without much difficulty.
Let it be for the history.

I really like cozy vibes in this one, especially the soft music. :)

Ah, a classic game of 52 pick up.

I'm glad that when I interrogated a fox, all matters could be resolved civilly, and that he remembered his playing cards
