I was absolutely terrified when the cat screamed out of the darkness..! xD The theme is really well adapted and I love how the cat is purring all the time. ^^
Cute, but hard. But cute!
Although I am not particularly skillful with this one, I like the concept! :)
I really love this idea. I am not a very good blind mouse, unfortunately. The problem, if it can be called a problem, is that the maze-like levels mean that you can *hear* the cheese, but to *get to* the cheese, you often have to move away from it. I've no idea how one would "solve" this, aside from, I don't know, somehow attenuating the sound based not on basic proximity but path-based distance? So the cheese gets louder as you actually make progress toward it, not as you're getting closer to it but are still on the other side of a wall?
The cat, however, I could avoid with ease. No way was I going anywhere near that rumblin' purr. My mouse might've starved, but it didn't get eaten!
Thanks for playing and for the thoughts :)
This is actually a good idea! I also wanted to add some kind of “muted” effect to the sound when hearing it through the wall, but I sadly ran out of time…
Very cool concept! I kind of wanted there to be some qualitative distinction to the purring when I’m right next to the cat. A warning bell or something? Without that, it’s hard to know which purr volume is the loudest (even after hearing it a few times).
Interesting concept - finding the right passages was quite difficult at times, but it felt good finding the cheese when you do make it… And the growl of the cat makes me nervous… good job!
This was much harder than I thought, I was lost for a solid two minutes on the 3rd level before I was killed by the cat. Tried it a few more times but kept dying. The flash did help but I wish I had found the ability to do without! I think this game has good potential if you make different sounds for everything to really help guide the player. Lovely graphics! (well at least when we can see the level lol)
The cat got more meals than I did! gg :)
It turned out that being a blind mouse is very difficult! The mousi is very cute — it’s a real highlight of this gameplay!
Cool idea, but even trying to draw a map of the third level, I can't pass T__T It would be nice if there was a difference between the sounds not only from the left and right, but also from the top and bottom (for example, the bottom ones are duller or lower) Anyway, good work
Thanks for playing! You know what, that is a great idea actually, wish I had thought of it during development haha
Is it still too difficult even with the flash enabled?
To be honest, for some reason the flash didn't work on the third level...
Aw, okay, gonna have to squash that bug once the jam ends…
I was staring so hard at the black square as if that would make me hear any better LOL. I wonder if it would be easier to play with headphones on.
Haven't played a game like this ever. Such an interesting experience!
Inspired me to figure out how to creatively use sound in my next game...
Had a lot of (audible) fun with your game =)
Ambitious! I like the presentation and audio, mouse is cute and everything reads well. Unfortunately, it ends up feeling a bit tedious as you have to brute force your way around and memorize the layout. The sound mainly helps you avoid the cat, and there's a very subtle difference in volume/balance of the purr based on your relative position to the cat. I think this concept could work if it leaned away from maze brute forcing and toward pattern recognition/timing. Good job completing your entry!
Thanks for playing! I played around with the attenuation parameter of audio nodes in Godot, but it was quite difficult to find a good middle ground between inaudible and way too loud haha
