Nice work, in tune both with MB and N. MB Myth's are in a way the new Troika classes, and as such they can become quite formulaic, but not this, this one is good, and that's more impressive when one think about how classic is the material at hand. Nice job indeed
Thank you very much! I really enjoyed making this and glad to see its landed well!
Beautifully laid out, very closely to MB’s official style, with some nice collaging. The map for the adventure site was very helpful, and the sword at the end seems very flavorful without being too powerful, which is very nice. The Knight, of course, was my favorite part & easily could fit in with all of the official ones. Nice work all around!
Thank you! I think some of the biggest praise is just the state "easily could fit in with all of the official ones"!
The MB-entries are all so eerily beautiful.
Is it correct you can play a whole game with the info on these pages?!
I probably wouldn't try to stretch it that far! One of the main things about Mythic Bastionland is that you've got a number (normally 6) of Myths "active" in the realm at the same time. The weird/mysterious nature of the omens tends to mean a player may not be sure what myth the omen actually pertains to.
Some one-shot/convention guidelines is to include only 1 or 2 myths and make the realm smaller so you it could be considered in that way. Generally I went for a little module that contains one of each of the key elements of the game. A myth (with included site), a Knight and a Seer!
Those entries really make me reach for that PDF I got in a humble bundle or similiar a while ago. But I think to know the way to experience this system is the ultra-cool hardcover book, isn’t it? :-D
I unfortunately only have the PDF! Its high on my list to get the hardcover
This looks really good. I love that it's not only a Myth but there's also a Knight and a Seer.
Thank you!
An impressive addition to Mythic Bastionland not only for the textual quality that fits right in with McDowall's writing but for how it presents a complete entry into the playspace. The system this module belongs to is a beautiful thing with too few 3pp offerings and here the community has an example of what to expect (in my humble opinion).
The Sea Knight in particular is such a nice addition. Adding Knights to the game is a task and imagining this mythic take on the one to wear the helm, master or rivers and such, warms my heart.
And just imagine the roleplay around that passion??? I want to play a Sea Knight. Now.
Thank you very much - I definitely want to be able to connect and gain guidance from a mythical old otter!
I don't know enough about Mythic Bastionland to comment on how it would play, but it looks good and I really like the writing here. Evocative, powerful prose that sets an unsettling, phantasmagoric tone.
As someone who is unfamiliar with the game system,I admit that I had to read your explanation about how any of this actually works/ties in to each other. I'm glad I did because it really let me appreciate the contents a lot more. On the surface it seems just cool but in the context of the system, it's much cooler. The art is great and the set pieces are cool. I especially like the Repentant Tears. Good work!
Thank you - the Repentant Tears themselves was probably the first thing that stuck and the rest of the module built around it. I originally was stuck with my title but then this idea of a mirror like substance holding an alternate version of a person just grew
This is superb, especially the layout. Great adventure!
Thank you very much - I really wanted to push some of my bashed layout and graphics a bit and a collage approach felt really appropriate for an appendix n style
Lovely visuals and the writing has a lot of pathos! Cool to see something for Mythic Bastionland as well.
Wonderful additions to Mythic Bastionland that stand out from the system's already diverse list of knights, seers, and myths. Enjoy the gloomy, watery vibes throughout.
Very evocative writing and while I am not super familiar with the system the presentation is all clear and the module is easy to read through. I especially liked the Omens, all written in a short but vivid way. Great entry! ❄️
Thank you. It’s definitely a strength of the system that a little goes a long way!!
First off, the scotch tape on the cover was a nice touch, as was the Made by Humans bar code. I am not familiar with Mythic Bastionland, so I might not be the best person to give feedback on this.
The writing is super evocative, it reminds me of a prose poem. This is a very vivid location and the imagery is exciting.
I love the art as well, they look like awesome settings and I think seeing them will be "worth a thousand words" for the player in terms of grasping what you're going for.
After reading through everything, I'm still a bit confused as to how it all works together. Here is my understanding after reading: The Sea Knight seemed to me to be a player character option. I presumed that there was going to be a strong sea element but it seems like we're kind of in a land of streams and lakes and the Lady of the Lake is presumably in the lake with the Repentant Tears, judging from the image. The land is called The Tears and there is a cavern with The Sink inside it which is the main area of the adventure.
I'm not sure what to take from this, "gaping clouded maw delusion urging freedom the boon, at what cost" freedom from the boon? but I'm not seeing any other mention of a boon.
Again, I'm probably not the best person to weigh in on this because I don't know the system, but I think while the art and writing is very vivid, I would need a little more grounding in terms of how these elements are connected to one another in order to be able to run it.
Happy to answer questions if you have any for me!
Because Mythic Bastionland is so specific, I would hope it’s all quite obvious to anyone that has read or played.
That’s no criticism of your feedback here, but I’ll use this to explain to any others:
Knight and Seer: A knight (both PCs and NPCs) are knighted by a mystical seer. Both elements can be used separately in a game. There’s usually some tie but also some separation between the two.
The Tears is a Myth, a mystical feature/element in the realm. A myth traditionally consists of 6 Omens (1-6) that are uncovered throughout play, and generally build in grandeur and scope for that mythThey appear randomly and are loosely tied together (players are guessing what constitutes a myth/omen as they go). The players get to decide when they think a myth is resolved throughout play. These can appear anywhere (you can get forests in the middle of a desert as an example).
The game constains a lot of poems/poetic phrases as the intro to myths/knights. The two haikus in the images are those, evocative elements that a referee may use. In the one you described, the freedom can be both the eel and the fake seer, the boon - the frozen weapon. I decided to go with a haiku for its short, mysterious punchiness.
Essentially this is a Myth, that contains a site in the omens (the deep). The knight/seer is another flavour/character options that fit with the general theme of trials and water.
Essentially, all the elements are directly injectable into any Mythic Bastionland setting/game either individually or as a whole
The lady of Che lake called my soul to the deeper water. This is my personal favorite!
Thank you very much!
i think it's a great demonstration of Mythic Bastionland's strengths as a system
Thank you - it really is a wonderful system!
Such a moody composition and layout! And for Mythic Bastionland <3
Thank you very much! This Jam I definitely leant all into vibes and mood!
