Description
The brief was to make a credits theme track in the style of a action-aventure steampunk game. So, I wrote this piece imagining a stroll through a 19th century city under construction while the credits roll. Everything you hear is created using ochestral instruments; (in the intro, to mimic a music box, I chose a celesta paired with a harp). I tried to figure the steampunk mood and sound without using standards steampunk sounds effects like ticking watches, clocks, or train, opting instead to represent hose elements through real instruments and specific playing techniques and articulations. I took some liberties by adding fantasy orchestral sounding, but but I think I managed to capture the style quite well, while infusing it with my own personal touch. I composed it in FL Studio and I choose the level 4 for this entry. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating ;)

I think your choices of instrumentation worked out very well for your goal. I absolutely adored the section where you have all the strings transfer to pizz., but I do wish it did not end there. You are building up so much energy, from the ostinatos stacked and layered across the piece, and the energy peaks at the end where we might have wished to see some kind of cool down or resolve. It was also difficult to hear what was going on underneath the pizz, especially since it was actually quite nice things as well.

This definitely does feel like an end credits theme, and I can hear motifs which seemingly belong to the characters in the game (both good and evil). Overall, I think I just want more, especially with how good everything was prior, there is a lot more that could be worked out. I definitely understand time constraints and all that, so I don't want to take away from what you worked so diligently with. I am just a bit greedy for good music! Absolutely keep up the great work!

P.S. I'm not sure if you've listened to Mars, Bringer of War by Holst or Bolero by Ravel, but I think you'll like those!

Hey, I've just listened to your track!

From beginning to end, it was awesome. I really felt like I was travelling, embarking on a short adventure. I can definitely imagine this music playing over flashbacks to different areas of the game or memorable cutscenes during the end credits.

The instrumentation is excellent and creates wonderful atmospheres throughout the piece. The melodies are great as well, especially the one that appears around 1:05.

I honestly can't find anything to criticize, so congratulations on such a well-crafted composition.

Good luck with the rest of the voting period!

The support of the marching snare with the click (I assume rim hits?) creates an impression of something like a typewriter for the rhythm section - absolutely inspired for the theme of the jam.

I'm trying to pull some sort of constructive criticism out of my backside anatomy and you are making that really hard. I absolutely can not find anything that I could, in good conscience, ask you to do differently. Just an amazing piece.

I think this might be one of my favourites in this jam so far, I've listened to it multiple times, really enjoyable ! Love the celesta and the harp mixed together, and then the brass, the choirs, etc, uplifting the music to transition into the energetic part. The quality sound is satisfying. The rythm of the snare and I think it's the timpani are catchy. The transitions in this music are also on point, love how an instrument announce the next section a few bars before, for example the flute at 1:34.

Other thing I'm fond of is how instruments are playing continuing the melody one after the other, for instance at 1:09 (which is my favourite part) with the cor, then the strings and again the violins in a more high pitched way which kinda softens it and adds more layers to it !

I also like from 1:38 to 2:05 with the flute playing its part, the harp plays its own, then the strings arrive with more and more strength and take the center of the attention. It makes it smooth.

The pizzicato part is also interesting and the ending is well done !

Great work, it's really one of those musics that I could often listen as it's a pleasure to listen to it again !

Very nice implementation of the brief. Love what you did with the rhythm of the snare and the plucky violins.
