Description
βThis is a submission for "Precision OST Jam #1" wherein participants were challenged to create an "end credits" song according to a brief with 5 optional levels of specificity. This song is at level 3 (could make the argument it fits the "action adventure" criteria for 4, but I wasn't concerned with making it particularly steampunky so 3 it is).
"After the Trials and Tribulations" is an orchestral piece in 3/4 time signature throughout. The first section a playful melody over a calm string harmony. The strings and brass then establish a rhythm to infuse the song with drama and energy. A motiff is introduced at the start which forms the basis for many of the song's melodic phrases.

The quality sound is great and the way the instruments feel like they're talking are a plus in terms of storytelling. It doesn't feel like an end credits song as it goes all over the place, but it feels like it could be in a scene in a movie and the music mimics what's happening on the screen. The first 20 sec can be taken as the beginning, a part and the rest is hard to distinguish. It's a great piece of music, but it doesn't fill enough its purpose for a credits music, but it tells a rich story and in my mind, it feels like it could be in an old Disney movie scene !
(Submission 17/29 - "After the Trials and Tribulations" by DSound)
The quality of the instruments is incredibly lush and gorgeous! I just wish that I could decipher what was happening... If you didn't tell me that the song was in 3/4, I probably would've never EVER guessed that. I don't want to repeat anything that anyone else had said, but I completely agree with them.
You could definitely let the melodic ideas breathe a lot more and focus on the motif that I don't think I even heard clearly.
You have a great sense of orchestral music, however, and improving on pacing would definitely help your music out a ton!
Thanks for the vibe, DSound!
Hey, I've just listened to your track!
I really liked the instrumentation. However, I agree with the other feedback you've received: there are a lot of ideas introduced in a short amount of time. I think the piece would benefit from introducing them more gradually and giving each one a bit more room to breathe.
This would create stronger contrast, especially in terms of energy, and would allow your melodies to develop more naturally. If you're concerned about the length, keep in mind that 1:45 is still quite short for an end credits theme, so you have some room to expand.
Good luck with the rest of the voting period!
The piece feels somewhat overloaded with ideas. There is a whole lot going on that I'm sure a jazz student would have the proper vocabulary for, but I had a hard time even just identifying the pulse. I think it might help to have a rhythm instrument to keep the time, or alternatively, be very generous with the instrument dynamics to clearly communicate where your measures start and end.
I like the vibe and I hear John Williamsy inspirations but I think the piece could repeat itself a bit more to gain more cohesiveness or maybe add some contrast with slower parts. My brain is overwhelmed when trying to figure out what's happening :)
