Great and unique visuals and atmosphere. Gameplay is a bit too slow. First dish contained allergen so I had to trash it, by the time the second dish was finished I was already almost dead. Only managed to get 3 meals before dying of hunger because meals take too long to cook. Felt very rng if I die from hunger or not.

Still, the game looks amazing and polished otherwise.

Developer

Yes, sorry about that! The different allergies are not balanced, people have noted that oyster and crab can take up to 10 dishes before it even appears, while egg (which I'm assuming is the allergy you got) has a chance to appear in literally every dish. Originally we were gonna have way more unique dishes, including a seafood platter containing fish, crab and oyster, but unfortunately our artists were very busy with work and even I was overwhelmed with getting everything working that I couldn't fine tune the randomness or cooking times.

Submitted

What a nice dude. He made me 11 dishes without crab (what are the chances for that). There is a lot of detail even in the starting text alone and the background music is fitting and unsettling, horror music is pretty hard to get right. Crazy good submission!

Wtf, THIS IS SO COOL?! The visuals are insane, Willem Dafoe - just the cherry on top XD I'm so glad I came across and decided to check your game out!

I actually proposed a similar idea to my teammate when we brainstormed, but with a more comedic and not so deadly tone, I'm glad to see someone actually made it. :D

My fav from this jam, 100%

Oh, and so does the protag die even if you had like a piece of bread from a bad plate? Kinda hoped that would help my hunger situation a bit and just trash the rest... XD

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the kind words!

The idea for this game originally started as having an allergy while being at a sushi train or conveyer belt of food, and in my head it would be cartoony and comedic. When I proposed the idea to our artist, she liked the idea but to my surprise, she specifically said it wouldn't be cutesy. We then fleshed a more personal and immersive route with the idea to fit with the 'Trust No One' theme, and took heavy art inspiration from stuff like 'No, I'm Not a Human', and ended up with this!

I don't have a life-threatening allergy myself, but I'm pretty sure if the allergen is on the plate, it cross-contaminates the rest of the food, meaning we can't just eat the safe food and chuck the rest away. I incorporated that but there are still a lot of refinements I could have done to the gameplay, I just didn't have the time to do so because of the whole 7 day limit.

I'm very glad you enjoyed our game so much! :D

And it turned out absolutely amazing! The dark tone makes it even better, lol. My thought was about having to watch the protag's mom cooking some home slop and she'd get mad if she notices you feed it to your dog or something, but ultimately we went with my artist's game idea. x)

Ah, makes sense XD Still, that's a lot of stuff done for the time limit and it's already very enjoyable, but if you guys decide to continue working on this, I'd love to see the final vision! And no problem ☆

This is a very polished game with some nice visuals and sound. I did find that the gameplay felt a little slow at times, and if you saw that a plate had an allergen, you didn't really have much more of a reason to care what was going into the food since you knew you'd reject it, so you'd end up just waiting for a while. That's just a small note though, and this is a great game. Good work!

Brilliant concept, nice graphics, and polished gameplay!

Arigatouuu gosaimasssu!!~~~

Cool! I didn't get how to remove empty plate at first, but I found it after some tries and found this game really cool arcade. Thank you!

super cool visuals, i was expecting him to be staring at me while i ate as a jumpscare
his face seems familiar...

cool experience!

Submitted

The eerie Willem Dafoe chef and uncomfortable atmosphere were so well done, loved the tension of watching him cook while trying not to starve! Clearing empty plates felt a bit confusing at first, but the sound design and concept are peak

Ohhh I wanted panning in those SFXs!
But still, good innovative game.

Developer(+1)

Panning SFX is a great idea! I think I was too focused on making the volume of the kitchen SFX lower when looking at the table that I forgot that completely. If a full version of the game ever comes out, I'll be sure to add left and right audio panning for even more immersion, thanks to your comment.

Game is cool but gameplay takes too long. Waiting sessions are a bit boring

Developer(+1)

I think the game had a bug that all i ate was fine and i just died of hunger. Loved the visuals and it was great looking.
I was waiting for a jumpscare to happen but there was none. And was he william dafoe? becus they looked a like !

(also if you had free time , pls check out our game too )

Def a bug! let me starve our programmer.
Joking aside, we felt it pretty bare bones when we finished so your comments are very much apreciated for we will continue to develope this game after the Gamejam. And yes, my team will check it out!

Developer

Not a bug, just an unfortunate lack of development time to flesh out an actual win condition or even a retry button. I had to submit it  as this high score based arcade-style game 20 minutes before the deadline lol.

Submitted

It was a fantastic gaming experience! The sound design perfectly matches the eerie atmosphere—everything about it is excellent! I collapsed from hunger right at the end, so I was frantically wishing the shopkeeper would just hurry up

Submitted

game is really fun!! i would love to see an update where the game gets more difficult as you go!

Developer

We're actually planning on going deeper into the mechanics and gameplay after the jam! Still sorting out the details though so no promises.

Submitted

Very cool game! It has a simple but fun gameplay loop, and the sound effects are great at adding tension to the atmosphere!

Submitted

Cool game! I really liked the art style!

Developer

Thank you so much!! we poured a lot of love and disgust into it. ♡

Submitted

probably my favourite jam game i've played so far, simple but super fun gameplay loop and incredibly eerie atmosphere and artstyle.

... I also like when his butt gets very big for whatever reason. That's my favourite part

Developer

Happy you noticed it lol! It's a low chance to see this big dumpy you were one of the lucky few.

Great visuals i like it it made me so nervous fr
