How does the game fit the theme?
So the pieces you placed at the start will randomly turn to black
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Several lines of code from the camera was written before this jam for my past project

Very polished game with silly art, love it!
Really great job, especially for a first jam :D
Addicting betrayal chess. I got hooked after figuring out how it plays.
Yo my 500 elo ass thought the bishop was a pawn lol. its so fun and I love the polish every piece has when it moves and captures. great game. Love the art-style to I just wish the king could move in the red squares but I guess that defeats the purpose. Great game again.
Very creative and effective concept! I swear the enemy pieces were just dancing around the center, teasingly slightly out of reach. Guess I should polish my chess skills :')
It is a bit unfair that the enemy knight can stand on top of the king and take away your lives, meanwhile your pieces can't do anything about it.
Amazing first game jam. Gameplay, art, and sound design are all superb.
Thanks! Yeah I just place the knights far away because they have limited movement range.
Cool! I have never seen a chess variant like this before (I've seen a whole bunch of variants)
I’ve actually thought about whether this counts as a chess variant and I still don’t know… I’m no good at chess but I’ve seen a bunch of variants as well, I really liked variants for some reason.
I made the sound to Chess o'Clock for Brackey's game jam 2025.2, you should try it! (The current version is not the game jam version though...)
I’m really bad at the game and haven’t played it much but it’s so good I love the art, audio, everything!
:D
Incredible game. The art is cute and the gameplay loop and concept would allow for both "closed"-level puzzles and "open"-level emergent gameplay. I think this genuinely has the potential to be developed into a full-fledged commercial puzzle game.
Probably needs a learning curve to it, but a pretty good game nevertheless.
Honestly a very cool idea with good execution and a good art style. Just needs a little tutorial at the beginning.
Really cool idea actually, simple but very effective
Such a cool idea! Also the art is hilarious
Yeah the assets were all drawn in 30 seconds…
I never liked that rook anyway
Nice game ! I love the idea.
Such an interresting concept! Nice!
Very unique, and I love the graphics and animation.
I was a bit confused until I realized you have 3 lives/hearts. I'd be good to emphasize that in the description and/or the tutorial. Also, perhaps it would be best to simply remove the king?
But overall, well done!
Thanks for bothering to write this! I’m gonna put the lives mechanic into the tutorial. As for the king, I feel like it’s a symbol and also it lets me say stuff like “don’t let it go near the king”
Just an idea but maybe you could make it like a little castle grounds and the king in middle. so it could explain why the pieces can't get him outside the red area
Ohhhhhhh I wish I came up with that! This is an awesome idea! I’m not sure if I can do this after the time limit though…
You can't for the game jam itself. But you could always update the game and release it.
Nise game
Hey, I saw your game! Nice color palette!
SO SO CUTE! My favourite so far.
Fun, Great twist on the theme, im... kinda confused on how the attackinbg against the king works while they dont hit him, but otherwise, GREAT! i love the art and audio!
Thanks! Yeah, to clarify, the king doesn’t really move so I didn’t make him a piece. The enemy attacks by moving into the center squares. (Also, I’m working on an in-game tutorial!)
Good luck to you man! It's already so fun!
It turned out I should’ve made the king block moves anyway for reasons in the description. And there’s a tutorial now!
Yay! I’ll check it out
genius game I love it
