How does the game fit the theme?
It's about a (low stakes) conspiracy theory, and you probably shouldn't trust any of your coworkers...

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
All of the SFX are from pixabay.

How many people worked on the game?

Have you read a book named "Bullshit Jobs" (by David Graeber) ? ><

More seriously though, I had fun with the dialogues. The visuals are fun (I love the characters visiting) and the dumb plot with the lamp made me laugh. I also saw the inspiration from Severed I think ?

I however got bored of clicking a long time on day 4 or 5 - but that's also me not being a player of incremental games I suppose, so it doesn't change my rating ;) Apart from that, for me everything in your game clics and your games look polished !

This is quite charming! I really enjoyed using up my lamps and funds to things that surely are important heh. I do wish a little bgm was playing in the background, the choices for the sfx was quite nice tho. Good job!

Developer

Incredibly important, yes yes. You have performed invaluable work that will benefit very specific entities and they are most grateful for your contributions.

I just mentioned in another reply about music, I did experiment during development and never landed on anything I really preferred over the layered ambience, but understandable if the starkness didn't land for some.

I loveee this game! Really funny premise and also just charming in general! I really like the OS UI of the screen and also the sound effects that comes with it. I do wish there were some sort of music to fill up the emptiness though! Lovedd the different characters and the art is really cool!!! Overall, cool game with an interesting idea and also visuals! Great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I tried a few different music styles during development and just didn't like having it there. Given the setting the only thing that almost worked for me was a kind of easy listening jazz muzak, but I ended up preferring the raw ambience. The comforting hum of fluorescent lights and an old computer lol.

I suspect a composer could've come up with something, I considered a slightly corrupted sounding version of what I described above, but it's beyond my abilities unfortunately!

This game really highlight my day!
Playing through the whole thing was illuminating.
Loved the bright idea of the fake OS.

Developer

I've reported you to HR for excessive punnery. Expect imminent sanctions.

Thank you for playing!

I really like the visuals, especially the computer. Gameplay is pretty fun too even though it's quite simple.

The games feels really satisfying in an unexplainable way, really fun dialogue and vibe over!

There was a visual bug at least for me where the door seems to be not in place but it did not take away anything from the game and I really enjoyed it :D

Developer

oh wow what on earth, nothing there is placed correctly! Was it like that the whole game?? Would you mind letting me know browser/OS so I can look into that?

Submitted(+1)

Yes for the whole game, using chrome (updated and everything), windows 10, normal 16:9 aspect ratio 2k screen. If you need any other details let me know!

Developer

I'm really sorry about that. It's not something I've seen before or can currently reproduce.

If you have time at all, could I ask if it's the same in fullscreen/not fullscreen and really really only if you have time, could you check if anything is erroring/warning in the devtools console? Sorry I don't want to give you work to do, if you are busy don't worry, I will keep trying to reproduce.

Developer (1 edit)

Ah don't worry! I have found the problem. I left godot's RTL implementation at default and it is causing this. I'm going to push a fix for that now, I'm so sorry you had to experience the game like that!

EDIT: I've published this fix now, thank you so much for reporting it (especially when we are still in bug fixing period!) and for playing/commenting in general!

Submitted(+1)

I'm glad you managed to solve the issue, tried it again now and you weren't kidding nothing was placed correctly haha.

Gave it another test run and everything seems to work perfectly, other than the fact that the HR is still mean 😭

Developer(+1)

Thanks for giving it another look, glad the fix worked. Unfortunately, HR being mean was rejected as a bug and I saw her write your name down. Good luck!

I love lamp and buttons! I like the art and the interactions between objects. All the mini systems and the dialogue choices were fun to play with.

I click stuff and stuff happens ig, my brain is too smol to understand fully - Something about world domination by lamps? Like are bad stuff supposed to happen when u approve some of their proposals or something, I just approved all of them and nothing rlly happens? But like i didnt think clicking stuff would be so fun, if only real work was this fun and ez lol, Good Job!

Developer(+1)

It's not your brain, simply accept the lamps.

To explain, the general narrative is based on a silly low stakes conspiracy theory about green bankers lamps appearing everywhere in games, tv, movies etc. but very rarely in actual real life. Once you start noticing them in media you'll keep seeing them all over the place. The game is just a surreal take on who might be doing this. The "why" is not explained, just that making sure you get full lamp coverage across the globe is very important.

The proposals - yes, some of them do not help, but I didn't want it to make it so punishing so they pretty much just take some of your funds and give no benefit, but if you were to read them it's pretty obvious which will help and which will not. It probably needed more work on that side of things and I did want to flesh it out more, just got jam cut!

Thanks for playing, and your feedback.

Oh the sweet sweet attention to detail. The talking characters wobble lightly, clicking on the computer comes with a satisfying sound, the lamp's chain is animated, everything that happens on screen comes with a noise, there is rarely a moment in which the screen is completely static, there's that very subtle computer buzz and office ambient sounds...

You have mastered the art of scratching that point in the player's brain that most people don't realize itches. Hats off.

Also love the design for the HR lady with the hair over her face and the glasses on top of everything.

Developer

What lovely words, glad I could help scratch your brain.

I had to cut quite a lot more of that sort of stuff for time... I was hoping to gradually introduce various decorations/toys/things to fiddle with in the office as you progress in the game. Not for any real functionality, just little props you can poke and vehicles to carry more visual gags. The bare office is the thing I'm most disappointed about, but it was part of the cost paid to submit a game!

Thank you for your feedback, it is greatly appreciated.

I saw some buttons, I clicked some buttons and somehow the world lit up. Great incremental game, the coworkers are all great, kinda sad that they dont impact the gameplay

Developer (1 edit)

Hey, thanks for playing and great job illuminating the world, colleague!

I understand about the coworkers. Although, I do think they impact gameplay to an extent (or are supposed to) - apart from the last day, every visit unlocks either a new terminal feature or a new set of proposals (and a straight multiplier upgrade for one particular visit). However, I get that it is not very clear when that is happening so I can totally see why it doesn't feel like they are doing a lot.

There was supposed to be a lot more proposals and interactions including more "untrustworthy" ones that did not have beneficial effects, but only a subset made it in due to overscope and crunch naps lol.

Honestly, it's lucky you were able to get so far, I've only just uploaded a fix for the spam of webgl errors that was crashing it for my friends haha.
