I'm really looking forward to playing this one! I like a solo game that leans into having a variety of mechanics and dice rolls, and I feel like this fits the bill. I'm not really familiar with Hints and Hijinx as a system, but I enjoyed reading through and seeing all the fun prompts on the roll tables (particularly for the hijinx table). I also love the choice to make it not just about figuring out how to cook for someone, but also about doing a little divination along the way.

This was great! I felt like it was so chaotic while playing! And, I liked the alterations to the Hints and Hijinx  system, allowing for the game to still have depth while condensing the number of card prompts in the game. Now that I learned more about H/H system, it makes me want to try my hand at it in the future!

Great game!

The choice to use an investigation game framework for using psychic powers to figure out a ghost's favourite food is very interesting. I can see this game being deeply chaotic, as the previous comment demonstrates. I'm seeing from this jam that I need to learn more about journaling games, I'm kind of lost at sea with this type of game and I have a hard time rating them, but I'm doing my best.

Journaling games are super weird and liminal and subjective. I like writing them and playing them but I often feel a little lost at sea, too! 😆 Figuring out what you want out of them when you're the player is part of the fun, but also complicated.

Great choice to use the Hints and Hijinx System for this idea! Your prompts are spot on for some silly hijinx for sure. In Waffles for Esther (the only other Hints and Hijinx game I’ve read through) they use a full deck prompt table and I love that you narrowed that down to evens and odds of each suit. It allowed for really honing in on your theme without having to pull out a whopping 52 prompts in a short jam period. The smaller tables and the addition of the hijinx table gave the system your own twist, making it feel more focused and cozy.

I love this so much, Kelly! LOL This is my first playthrough of a Hijinx and Hints game. I'm familiar with them, but I've just never gotten around to playing one. This was wonderful and hilarious. You made such great choices for the complications and hijinx prompts. I loved the concept too. It felt so original and unique to be basically conducting a seance to recreate recipes for loved ones. Everything just felt like it worked together so well lol

I want to try to describe the ridiculousness and chaos of my client's aunt. I hope that's ok to share  xD  It went sideways so fast the first turn ROFL

First Auntie Beatrice didn't like my tone, and then she was certain I was incompetent and just immediately went for possession because she was going to make the recipe herself. It devolved into petty fighting and squabbling. We messed the kitchen all up, and I couldn't find anything. And the client was just standing there watching it all not sure if this was normal. (I was literally laughing out loud at my prompts.)

But it somehow went downhill from there. I got one clue despite the niece continuously interrupting me to talk to her aunt about the aunt's now-geriatric show dogs she inherited from her. Then Aunt Beatrice refused to communicate with me unless Nutmeg was present--Nutmeg being one of her precious but now extremely elderly shih tzus.

An attempted walk-in client showed up at my door just as I was trying to summon Nutmeg.

Auntie Beatrice was getting irritated and threatened to leave if I didn't get her Nutmeg, so I roped this stranger into pretending to be the dog while my client rushed off to get Nutmeg and the rest of the 'Spice Girls' from the groomer down the street. My client really wanted this recipe.

Suddenly there were dogs everywhere. Nutmeg kept going after my shoes and getting in the way. I needed a snack break LOL

I can't believe I was ultimately successful, and it all came together.  I had a lot of fun with it!

This is so good! It was such fun to play through , it really captures the atmosphere of a lively kitchen where there's so much happening all the time and the cooks are trying to figure out the secrets of a special dish. I loved it :)
