Great animations and very cool concept overall. I only figured out why grumbo kept standing still after reading the other comments. After that, the dual character controls felt pretty natural to me.

Art is really charming, and the audio is nice! Game fits the theme well, and the gameplay is very smooth and polished! Beat it after a few tries, had a lot of fun with this one! Keep it up :D

Controlling both your character and a wild monster at the same time is such a creative dual-character bullet hell mechanic! The cute, funny hand-drawn visual style, responsive controls, and tight Real Steel/Pokémon-meets-boss-fight concept give this game massive potential for a full post-jam release.

A few QoL, balancing, and onboarding ideas for future updates:

- Proximity & Tether Onboarding: Add a clear visual tether line or short tutorial prompt explaining that your monster won't attack unless you stay close to it, so new players don't get confused.

- Boss Balancing & Boss Rush: Smooth out the boss health pool (Kurt takes a while to beat!) and flesh out the original 3-4 boss rush scope you envisioned.

- Visual Feedback: Enhance screen indicators for area-of-effect attacks so dodging bullet hell patterns feels even more intuitive.

Super fun mechanic and great potential for expansion! If you get a free minute, I'd really appreciate your feedback and rating on my solo jam entry as well: /jam/brackeys-16/rate/4953523

The controlls are really smooth and intuitive, won first try B). With a bit of graphics improvement and more content (story, leveling, map, bossfights) it could be a full game like a mix of pokemon/real steel and bullet hell.

yeahh it was gonna be like a boss rush with 3-4 bossess but i spent too long making a generic enemy base and only got time to finish one boss :P

I really enyoed this game!! Very cool mechanic and gameplay, the drawings are funny and cute. It is too hard for me tho, I was not able to win. Started getting how the 2 character thing works tho!

Thank you for adding an option to the screen that's the white line where you step out of the area of effect of Grumbo! It took me a bit to realize that I had to get super close to him for it to be able to attack with him. I was able to understand the controls, but Kurt had a lot of health! The mechanic of controlling a monster and yourself at the same time was such a cool mechanic though! Good luck on the rest of your game jam - I really liked your entry!

Thanks! Didn't get time to do a proper tutorial and forgot to mention that you need to stay close to it or it won't listen...
